Red and Golden Planets at Opposition
On May 22 Earth was seen between the Sun and Mars. Astronomers called it the opposition of
Mars. The sun and Mars appeared on opposite sides of the sky. Oppositions of Mars happen every 26
months. We also saw another planet have an opposition, Saturn! On June 3rd Saturn will be seen closest

101 Icy Geysers on Saturn Moon
Over a period of seven years, Cassinis cameras surveyed the south polar terrain of that moon.
They found 4 prominent tiger stripe fractures about 10 years ago and a survey was taken. The result of
that survey showed 101 icy geysers. Each erupting from The Tiger stripe fractures. They found hot
spots that lead them to the origin of the geysers.

Water Detected on Dwarf Planet Ceres
Scientists using the Hershel Space Observatory have made the first detection of water on Ceres.
This is the first time water has Unequivocally detected on Ceres or anything else in the asteroid belt
said Michael Kuppers of ESA. Until now Ceres was theorized to have water. Although it was never
detected conclusively. It took Hershels infrared vision to finally see any signature of water.

Twinkle Twinkle GPS
GPS signals twinkle just as stars do in the night sky. It has to do with the optical wavelengths.
The brightening and fading of signals. It is a reaction with the signals passing through the ionosphere.
Scientists are sending an ionospheric connection explorer in 2017 to take a closer look. At the
ionosphere and what exactly causes the twinkling with GPS signals.

Planetary Defense
Astronomers have been watching for potentially dangerous objects since the beginning of 2016.
98% of surveys have found 15,000 near earth objects. Some of those objects come within the earth 30
million miles away. The list has grown 1,500 objects each year. Scientists are discovering that there is

more and more than believed orbiting the earth at this very moment. Also keeping an eye out for
danger so they can be prepared.
