Casing = 9-5/8 inch, 43.5 lb/ft (8.755-inch ID), set at 6,500 ft

Open hole = 8-1/2 from 6,500 ft to 9,950 ft

Drill pipe = 9,500 ft of 4-1/2 inch, 16.6 lb/ft (3.826-inch ID)

Drill collar = 450 ft of 6-3/4 inch OD and 2-1/4 inch ID

Mud weight = 10.5 ppg

Mud flow rate = 200 gpm

First section 7,000 ft. was filled by 11.5 ppg

Second section 1,500 ft. was filled by 14.3 ppg

The last section was filled by 15 ppg mud.

b) Convert the pressure at 11,000 ft. to an equivalent mud weight and determine if it will exceed
the fracture gradient of 13.2 ppg.
c) Calculate the equivalent circulating density for an annular pressure loss gradient of 0.04 psi/ft.
and an original mud weight of 12.5 ppg.
8. Consider the tubing of a well filled with methane (CH4) gas to a vertical depth of 12,000 ft. The
annular space is filled with a 10.5 ppg mud. Assume that the gas follows the ideal gas behaviour,
calculate the amount by which the exterior pressure on the tubing exceeds the interior tubing
pressure at 12,000 ft. if the surface tubing pressure is 1,200 psia and the mean temperature is
150oF. If the collapse resistance of the tubing is 8,500 psi, will the tubing collapse due to the high
external pressure?
