The term approximant “is based on the articulations involved, in that one
articulator approaches another, but the degree of narrowing involved does not
produce audible friction”.(Crystal, 2008: 32)

[ r ] Linking ‘r’: far away, your eyes, better off.
[ ɹ ] Voiced post- alveolar fricative: dry, drive, wardrobe.
