FULL PROTECTION WATER MIST

The Unitor water mist system provides reliable re protection based on the newest
technology and gives you a number of advantages:
Quick release
The system can be released immediately without evacuation as it is harmless to crew and
machinery. This reduce the risk of damaging surrounding equipment.
Compact design
The Unitor water mist system uses water from the vessels fresh water tank, with a backup
connection forseawater. No dedicated storage space is required, increasing the overall
productive space available onyour vessel.
Low water consumption
The XFlow water mist nozzle has re suppression and water distribution capabilities similar to
those of high pressure systems. It uses a dry pipe system with minimal water consumption
which means low power demand, and minimal water damage and clean-up cost.
Higher safety level
The XFlow nozzle soaks the aected area(s) with a penetrating mist that extinguishes the re
quickly. In addition, the system uses fresh water with the re mains as back up for safe return
to port, in accordance with low pressure requirements.
Standard components
The Unitor water mist system uses a water mist nozzle with low working pressure and low
water ow. The pipe system components such as ttings and valves are standard
components,
keeping installation and maintenance costs low.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
WHAT MAKES LOW PRESSURE WATER MIST TECHNOLOGY DIFFERENT?
Unitor XFlow is a low pressure water mist system. The secret of the Unitor XFlow
technology is a combination of ne water droplets and water mist, giving optimal system
performance.
The water droplets cool the surface preventing reignition, while the mist encapsulates the
re and suocates it by restricting the oxygen ow. The droplets stabilize the mist
extinguishing the re with minimum damage to machinery and other vital installations. This
makes the system more ecient for certain types of res compared to high pressure water
mist systems, even though both systems have to pass the same tests.
The Unitor Xow water mist system can be released immediately when a re is detected.
There is no need to evacuate the protected room before release, as water represents no risk
to humans or the environment. Because the re gting system can start immediately, the risk
of the re spreading is signicantly reduced.

WHERE CAN THE SYSTEMS BE USED?

TOTAL FLOODING FIRE EXTINGUISHING

The Unitor XFlow water mist system is designed to protect machinery spaces of Category

A.It is suitable for use in engine rooms, turbines, enclosures, paint booths, cable ducts,
switchboardinstallations and other enclosed spaces.
The Unitor water mist system provides reliable re protection based on the newest
technology.

LOCAL APPLICATION FIRE PROTECTION

The Unitor XFlow local protection water mist system is a localised re extinguishing system
for internal combustion machinery in Category A spaces.
Advantages include:
The local protection unit is supplied as plug and play, ready to connect to water, power,
pumps, and pipes
Type approved heavy duty non-corrosive section valves
Nozzle heads are protected in stand-by position
Dry pipe system - uses very small amounts of water for immediate release, with a
maximum pressure of 16 bars
Can be supplied as part of the total ooding or accommodation system
The system meets the requirements of MSC/circ. 1387 type and certication IMO
Circ.913

ACCOMMODATION FIRE FIGHTING

The Unitor XFlow accommodation water mist system consists of a number of water mist
heads mounted in a wet pipe system. Each water mist head works automatically and
independently.
Advantages include:
The water mist head is concealed in the ceiling and only visible when activated
The nozzle and has an elegant Danish design and comes in a variety of dierent
materials & colours
Standard components are based on a maximum system pressure of 16 bars

Minimal installation costs and maintenance

Fixed water-based water mist system designed in accordance with SOLAS chapter II-2
and Res. A.800 (19)

SYSTEM DESIGN AND CONFIGURATION

For engine room systems, the nozzles are mounted in a dry pipe system and released in
sections through a total ooding system or as individual objects through local re ghting

systems. The system activation for a section is done manually from release stations in
connection with the protected area or remotely from a release panel located at a re control
station, ECR or wheelhouse.
For accommodation areas, the nozzles are mounted in a wet pipe system and each water
mist nozzle work automatically and independently. The nozzles activate when the re
reaches a certain temperature. The water mist is conned to the area or object aected by
the re, and the system can be activated without closing all vents and full evacuation of sta.
When a water mist nozzle is activated, water starts owing through the pipes, causing the
pressure to drop and the pumps to start. This triggers an optical and acoustic alarm on the
bridge.
The Unitor XFlow water mist system uses water from the vessels freshwater tank. The system
is also connected to seawater for back up operations. No dedicated storage space is
required, increasing the overall productive space available on your vessel.

EXTINGUISHING FIRE USING WATER MIST

The Unitor XFlow water mist system creates a mist of ne water droplets. Droplets in
variablesizes circulate in the airow, suppressing the supply of oxygen and absorbing the
heat energy, and thereby breaking the chain of combustion.
Water is an eective agent for re ghting as it is readily available and environmentally
friendly. When water is added as mist it is most ecient at reducing and dissipating heat and
therebycontrolling, suppressing and extinguishing a re.

Your benets
Low pressure, standard pumps and piping
Immediate release, no need to evacuate
Less sensitive than a high pressure system, with less costly components, installation and maintenance
The secret of the XFlow technology is the mix of very small and small droplets, giving unique cooling

eect and oxygen displacement

Alternative systems

1230 clean agent system

The Unitor 1230 system has been industralised and adjusted for the oshore and maritime
industry based on the Novec 1230 system. It is designed as a total ooding system for

machinery spaces, pump rooms, compressor rooms and control rooms. The solution is
particulary suited for rooms with sensitive equipment and vessels where space is limited.

Inergen system
The Unitor Inergen system is a re extinguishing solution for enclosed spaces. Inergen is
a clean agent consisting of only atmospheric gases and can be applied on merchant marine
and oshore structures.

CO system
The Unitor CO system is a total ooding system designed to suppress res in machinery
spaces of Category A, engine rooms, pump rooms and cargo holds. It has been supplied to
hundreds of vessels and oshore installations worldwide.

Fixed high expansion foam system

The Unitor high expansion foam re extinguishing system (Unitor high foam system) uses
foam consisting of a synthetic foam concentrate, water and air, which is highly eective for
machinery space applications. The system is designed as total ooding system for machinery
spaces of Category A, cargo pump rooms and other enclosed spaces onboard vessels and
oshore installations.
