BOUNDARY DETECTOR FOR SAILORS USING

EMBEDDED SYSTEM
Objective:
The main Objective of this project is to inform the boundary line to the sailors and to
avoid the problems caused due to crossing the boundaries.
Scope:
Scope of this project is to protect sailors in the boundary line by guiding them with the
help of modern electronics.
Brief Methodology:
The project is designed with following components
Microcontroller
LCD
RF Transmitter
RF Receiver
Encoder
Decoder
Relay
Alarm

Here the transmitter continually emits some frequency using RF Transmitter. And the
receiver receives this frequency using RF Receiver and sends to microcontroller. In case the

receiver to cross its boundary line. At this time the receiver not able to receives the frequency
from transmitter. At this stage the controller produce the alarm sound and shut off the relay.

A microcontroller is a small computer on a single integrated circuit containing a

processor core, memory, and programmable input/output peripherals. Program memory in the
form of NOR flash or OTP ROM is also often included on chip, as well as a typically small
amount of RAM. Microcontrollers are designed for embedded applications, in contrast to the
microprocessors used in personal computers or other general purpose applications.
A liquid-crystal display (LCD) is a flat panel display, electronic visual display, or video
display that uses the light modulating properties of liquid crystals. Liquid crystals do not emit
light directly.
LCDs are available to display arbitrary images (as in a general-purpose computer display)
or fixed images which can be displayed or hidden, such as preset words, digits, and 7-segment
displays as in a digital clock. They use the same basic technology, except that arbitrary images
are made up of a large number of small pixels, while other displays have larger elements.
An encoder is a circuit that converts information from one format or code to another, for
the purposes of standardization, speed, secrecy, security or compressions.
A decoder is a device which does the reverse operation of an encoder, undoing the
encoding so that the original information can be retrieved. The same method used to encode is
usually just reversed in order to decode.
An RF module (radio frequency module) is a (usually) small electronic device used to
transmit and/or receive radio signals between two devices. In an embedded system it is often
desirable to communicate with another device wirelessly. This wireless communication may be
accomplished through Radio Frequency (RF) communication.
A relay is an electrically operated switch. Many relays use an electromagnet to
mechanically operate a switch, but other operating principles are also used, such as solid-state

relays. Relays are used where it is necessary to control a circuit by a low-power signal (with
complete electrical isolation between control and controlled circuits), or where several circuits
must be controlled by one signal.
If boat crossed the border, microcontroller automatically transmits the message to the authority
(coastal guard) for intimation via GSM modem.

Advantage:
Used to inform the boundary line to the sailors and avoids the problems caused between
two nations.
Application:
Used in ships and aircrafts to get to know the boundary lines.
