Is God calling you to

become a Care Giver?

Does His Spirit tug at your heart

when you know others are
suffering? Is it your time to begin
training to become a Stephen
Minister?
A Stephen Ministry table will be in
Fellowship Hall on Sundays Aug.
7, 14 & 21. Stop by to review the
training materials, and speak with
a Stephen Minister or Stephen Leader. They will be
happy to answer your questions and share how Stephen
Ministry has changed their lives as they have served the
Lord through this ministry.
Training begins on Wednesday, Sept.14 from 6:45-9:15
p.m.
Pick up an application and job description and
prayerfully consider beginning this journey of service for
our Lord!

Pastors Corner
In the next few weeks, our recent high school graduates who are going on to higher
education will make their way to their new college homes. This is an exciting, though
slightly scary time for them, and I know we will keep all of them in our prayers.
Meanwhile, the rest of our younger children and youth are enjoying their last few weeks of
summer and preparing to return to elementary, middle, junior high, and senior high
schools throughout the area. We will certainly pray for them and their parents as well!
Since August is a big month for vacation, I want to provide a reminder to all members and
friends of the church that we have an amazing treasure trove of Christian videos available
to everyone who wants them, 24/7/365. They will not cost you a thing, though there is a monthly bill to the
church to enable each of you to have access to these videos. I'm talking about RightNow Media, which has
been described as "the Netflix of Christian video." That's a fair description, because there are more than
10,000 videos available for anyone who has an internet connection. I have personally found this to be an
incredibly valuable resource for my study of the Bible and leadership in discipleship classes and our
weekly staff meetings. I have watched these videos on my cellphone, tablet, laptop computer and even the
smart TV in the parsonage kitchen; such is the versatility of this online resource.
Parents have especially enjoyed having access to the videos in their cars if they have video systems, so
that the children can be occupied learning more about the Christian faith on the road. If you are new to the
church you may not have heard of this resource, so please know this is available immediately to you and
your family. You will need a login account, and this is easy to get. Please send an email to our "tech guy"
Mike Corey (mcorey@esumc.net), and Mike will be glad to get you set up. Then enjoy thousands of hours

of Bible study, seminars, series based on particular themes, funny videos and more. You may even get an idea
about a short-term class you'd like to lead in the fall where you can show a video and then have a discussion.
I have appreciated the video series put together by Rev. Tony Evans that a group of us has been viewing and
discussing the past few weeks on Christian unity in a time when our country has been dealing with issues of race
and culture. Please try it out, and you won't be disappointed!
This Sunday, August 7, will feature my final sermon on a movie theme this summer. The movie, shown last
Sunday night to more than 30 people, is Chariots of Fire. It's the incredible true story of a young man who stands
up for his Christian faith at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris and then goes on to become a missionary to the
Chinese. Please come and hear a little of Eric Liddell's story as we focus on Isaiah 40. Why Isaiah 40? It was the
scripture Eric preached on during the Olympics as he spoke in a Scotch Presbyterian congregation in Paris. I hope
to see you on Sunday!
Pastor Jim
Most of you have seen the occasional brief "Changing Lives" videos featuring someone,
typically a church member, telling how God has used ESUMC to change their life. You've seen
videos of youth who found faith, members telling about serving others and receiving support
from the church. One video is of a member who was called to ministry. What's YOUR story?
Please contact Robin Braun (arbymail@yahoo.com) if you would be willing to spend a half hour
taping a video about how God has used ESUMC to impact your life. It is much easier than you think. Please don't let
modesty prevent you from providing an encouraging message.
