As students increasingly eat

school lunches, the likely hood of a
child to become obese increases
substantially. Obesity is a huge
problem in America, especially
childhood obesity. Children that
suffer from childhood obesity are
more likely to head down the path
to adult obesity and other health
concerns according to Cara B
Ebbeling, Ph.D. The childhood
obesity epidemic can be attributed
to environmental factors, with a
major example being school
lunches. There are, however, some
solutions out there. According to
research done by Dr. David S
Ludwig, MD. an estimated 16
percent of children and adolescents

GMOs stands for genetically
modified organisms. The definition
of a GMO is
an organism or microorganism wh
ose genetic material has been
altered with the help of genetic
engineering. ("Genetically Modified
Organisms (GMO)). GMOs are in
a lot of foods we eat daily like: soy,
cotton, canola, corn, Hawaiian
papaya, alfalfa, squash, cereal, and
many others. According to the NonGMO Project in the United States
over 80% of our food contains
GMOs ("GMO Facts."). We have
had GMOs on our grocery store

His Girl Friday was released 18

January 1940. The film was
directed by Howard Hawks and
written by Charles Lederer and Ben
Hecht. The film is a comedy,
romance and drama all in one. The
leading lady, Rosalind Russel, who
plays Hildy Johnson, is in tangled
with leading man Cary Grant, who
plays Walter Burns.
With a leading lady playing
a tough go-getter of a news
reported, this film was
groundbreaking. With Hildy

with Walter burns she also quits her
job at the Morning Post, were
Walter Burns was her editor. Walter

Michael Obama in a press
conference said school lunchs
cost Americans 10 billion dollars a
year and those meals were not
meeting the standard nutrition
guidelines. The National School
Lunch program is a federally
assisted meal program that is
currently in over 100,000 public and
non-profit privet schools across the
nation. The number of students that
eat a school lunch is 31 million
participate in the school lunch
program. One and three are on
track to develop type two diabetes.
Type two diabetes can be
developed by poor eating habits
which can be attributed to a
nutritionally, badly balanced school
lunch.
According to the National
School Lunch Program from the
USDA website, there are nutritional
requirements for school lunches.
The current meal plan has
increased the availability of fruits,
vegetables, and whole grain foods
to schools. There is a sodium limit
on foods that are served in schools
as well. School lunches are
required to meet these guidelines
listed above, however, what specific
foods that are going to be served
and how the meals will be prepared
is left up to the local school
authorities. The schools also have
the option to get food from the
USDA. Schools can choose from a
various list of foods that have been
purchased by the USDA. There is
also extra food that is delivered
when there is an agriculture
surplus.

people.
GMO's (genetically modified
organisms) have been linked to
health risks. The United States is
not required to include GMO's on
food labels. GMO's have a danger
of becoming a "super-weed.
("GMO Facts.") project. The
Exposure to Environmental
Hazards website states that There
is concern that inserting a foreign
gene into a plant could cause it to
produce toxins at higher levels that
could be dangerous to humans.
("Science, & Human Values.") The
compound that makes up GMOs
affect the nutritional value of the
food we consume. The Exposure to
Environmental Hazards gives an
example of how we dont get as
much nutritional value from
Genetically Modified food. Phytate
is a compound common in seeds
and grains that binds with minerals
and makes them unavailable to
humans. An inserted gene could
cause a plant to produce higher
levels of phytate decreasing the
mineral nutritional value of the
plant (" Science, & Human
Values."). The more GMOs we
consume, the more likely we are to
become antibiotic resistance.
People have no idea what they are
putting into their body and how it
could affect their health.
GMO crops worldwide. The
strain became ten times stronger to
this herbicide. In 1997, the
European Union, Australia, and
China ruled that all GMOs must be

out a way to get Hildy to say. A

story breaks out about a man who
is on the run for murder. While the
fellow reporters are scrambling to
get the scoop on what is going on
Hildy and Walter have a secret of
their own. Everyone has a reason
for what they are doing. Hildy wants
to write the biggest story of her
career. Walter wants to show Hildy
that she can't leave him and the
what she loves most reporting.
Hildy is drawn into the case at
hand. The movie is filled with
comedic moments as well, the film
goes on you see one romance
unfold and another blossom.
The way that Walter talks to
Hildy is unusual, and he treats her
like another man at the office, and
first Hildy wants to be treated like a
lady and to be respected she said,
towards the end of the movies that
changes. She likes being part of the
action and how they dont treat her
any different than any other man in
the office. Having a woman being
such a strong as a person that
knows what she wants and how to
get it sets the tone for the movie.
With having a different take on the
stereotypical role of a reporter man
the audience question what Hildy is
going to do. She has an option to
be a housewife while her soon to
be husband is the primary
breadwinner, or she could continue
in her fast pace exceptional job as
a reported. This film is full of dry
humor that only comes from a black
and white film.
The film was in black and
white in the Film, which added to
the feeling you got while watching
this movie that there is more drama
and uncertainty about what is going
to happen. There are several times

and Human Services showed that

more than 1,000 sixth grade
students across the southeastern
Michigan. The researchers found
that those who regularly had lunch
at school are 29% more likely to be
obese than those who brought their
lunch from home. "Most school
lunches rely heavily on high-energy,
low-nutrient-value food because it is
cheaper. Said Dr. Kim A. Eagle, the
director of the University of
Michigan Cardiovascular Center
showing how schools sometimes
take the cheaper, unhealthier route
when feeding their kids.
Even when the schools are
supplying healthier options vending
machines offer more snacks that
can be unhealthy. Students on
average take advantage of the food
that is offered in school vending
machines. Many students choose to
rely on vending machines food than
then to choose a healthier
alternative for lunch. This further
shows how schools are allowing
their students to continue to eat
unhealthy.
The American Heart Journal
published a study on childhood
obesity in America, done by
ORahilly S. MD. The study was
done on 1,003 sixth grade students
(55% white, 15% African-American)
where 15% of the students were
considered obese which is
equivalent to 150 kids. Overweight
students were more likely not to
participate in physical activates
such as sports. There research
showed that obese students are
more likely to watch more than 2
hours of television a day. In the
study, it showed that there were
major differences in cardiovascular
health than the other students. It

States. Shortly after hospitals saw

more outbreaks of Bt- toxin, a
protein that is toxic to chewing
insects and is produced by the soil
bacterium which affects the soil and
ground water, this is a problem
people all over the world are facing.
There have been several court
battles claiming that GMOs and the
stronger pesticides they have to
use to on GMO crops are the cause
of many illnesses across the world.
The United States is not required to
label if something has GMOs.
Campbell's soup in now labeling all
of their ingredients that contain
GMO's. The first state to require
labeling of GMO's was Vermont in
2014, and the hope is for other
States to catch on.
The more we use GMOs,
the stronger we are going to have
to make the predicates, and that
can play a significant role in the
health of everyone says Krimsky,
Sheldon. "Science, & Human
Values. The concept of resistance
is changing as insects continue to
adapt to then pesticide containing
environment. Criteria for defining
strength in both fundamental and
practical terms are re-examined
here in the light of recent work.
There needs to be more research
on finding another way of farming.
There needs to be research done
not by the producers of genetically
modified organisms. There should
be a non-biased source to know
truly the effect of GMOs are.
People should find out if they are
eating GMOs and we should
require all food companies to label
if they used GMOs. Eating organic
is a good way not to consume
GMOs, but we should know what is
in our food it shouldnt a mystery of

people are on the phone speaking

quietly, and the viewer is unable to
hear what the people on the other
line are saying or who the are even
talking to on the phone. Having to
try and piece together who is
talking who and what they are
saying when everyone is talking
over each other is part of the charm
of the film. The mystery in the
movie is present, for example,
some characters show up, and you
dont know who they are right away
they make you wait and piece it
together. With having no
background music which makes the
action scenes have more
suspenseful and adds to the drama
and the comedic sense funnier. As
the viewer, you had to pay more
attention to what the characters
were saying because there was no
music and they all talk very fast to
each other.
His Girl Friday, was a film that
made me happy to a leading lady
taking charge. Walter didnt treat
Hildy any different than anyone
else he worked with. This is one of
many steps that was taken to have
women being portrayed not just as
a wife and a mother but someone
who works hard and is good at
what she does. I would recommend
this film this a movie that shows
that in the 1940s women did more
than just be a wife and mother. The
film is easy to follow along with.
The drama keeps you guessing,
and the comedy remains light and
funny, and romance makes for a
heartfelt movie.

further shows that children are

developing type two diabetes, and
is primarily due to kids being
overweight.
With having 31 million
students participating in the school
lunch program every year the
eating habits of students will be
affected. With one out of the three
meals a child gets in a day, having
healthier choices at lunch time can
increase the amount of energy a kid
will have throughout the day. A
study was done by Florida State
University, showing that students
that eat healthier meals throughout
the day performed better in school
and performed better in after school
actives. The study also showed that
the eating habits of an adult start to
form as young as eight years of
age. The taste buds begin to
develop, and kids are able to have
a better understanding of what they
like and dont like to eat at this age.
Eating habits that are
developed as a child have been
proven by the Center for Disease
Control and Prevention to carry on
into adulthood. In 2015 it was
estimated that one-third of
Americans are considered obese,
that is roughly 78.6 million people.
With that high of a number of
Americans, the number one killer in
America is heart disease. According
to the Center for Disease Control
and Prevention, it is estimated that
610,000 people die from heart
disease every year in the United
States. Different ethnic groups are
more susceptible to heart disease.
Dr. Lewis states, in the United
States, nearly half of all black adults
have some form of cardiovascular
disease, compared with about onethird of all white adults in America.

With so many different
opinions on the matter of GMOs
and so many different ethical views,
we must look at the facts. We dont
know enough about GMOs and
they are in just about everything we
eat. There are so many
unanswered questions that we
about GMO. There havent been a
lot of tests done on the effects of
the environment. With over 60
countries banning the use of
genetically modified seeds maybe
the United States should reconsider
our stance on GMOs. Regardless
GMOs should be labeled on all of
our foods in the grocery store and
at restaurants. Everyone should
have the choice to partake of
GMOs or not.

As well as African Americans,

Hispanics and Latinos have a
higher rate of obesity, diabetes, and
other cardiovascular risk factors
compared with whites Americans.
Heart disease is not the only
health related illness that is linked
to obesity, type two diabetes is
another health risk that comes from
obesity. Type two diabetes is the
most common form of diabetes and
is caused by a combination of
factors including insulin resistance.
This is a condition in which the
bodys muscles, fat, and liver cells
do not use insulin efficiently
according to the Department of
Health and Human services.
Primarily type two diabetes often
develops in middle-aged and older
people who are also overweight. A
person can develop diabetes as
well has been genetically
susceptible to having diabetes.
Central obesity is when a person
has excess abdominal fat (belly fat)
and has a major risk factor not only
for insulin resistance and type two
diabetes but also for heart and
blood vessel disease, also called
cardiovascular disease. People that
are at a high risk of developing
diabetes can make lifestyle
changes and weight loss to prevent
diabetes.
Overall, obesity is a major
issue in America. Children are
becoming more and more exposed
to unhealthier foods which cause
bad life long eating habits that can
lead to obesity. Obesity causes
many more health issues and more
deaths in America each year.
