Stop 1: Los Angeles,

California
Los Angeles climate continues
to change frequently. Heat in
the Los Angeles area
continues to rise, causing
humid temperatures as well as
heavy heat waves. Due to
heat consistencies, Los
Angeles continues to suffer
from water shortage. The lack
of water has severely affected
residents day to day lives as
well as their health. The high
temperature of high waves
has also caused many forest
fires, making it difficult to
conserve water. Because of
the unfortunate hazards Los
Angeles is facing, citizens can
do their part by: watering their
plants less, cutting their
shower time in half, do laundry
in the evening and by trimming
down their plants more
often. These simple steps will
help conserve more water and
also preventing forest fires.

Stop 2: Alajuela,
Costa Rica
Alajuela is the province of
Costa Rica. Alajuela is
located in the North-Central
part of the country, just north
of Nicaragua. Alajuela has a
number of national parks, one
named Poas Volcano Park. In
the early 1950s Poas national
park experienced a major
volcano causing it to be one of
the most acidic lakes in the
world. The volcano eruption
covered an area of 65 square
kilometers damaging a great
portion of the national park.
Volcanoes are first caused
due to low density of magma,
causing the surrounding rocks
to rise. Once the overheated
rocks come to the surface, the
magma pushes through the
cracks causing an explosion.
Since volcanoes are difficult to
predict and come with great
consequence, civilians should
prepare and create
emergency plans in case of a
breakout. The best thing
people can do is stay away
from areas that volcanoes are
more likely to occur and find
living locations on higher land,
making it safer and furthering
themselves from explosion.

Stop 3: Antelope
Valley, California
California is known for its nice
weather and sunny beaches,
yet recently faced a major and
deadly flood in the Antelope
Valley area on June 12,
2015. Floods are caused by a
number of natural hazards
like, heavy rain, melting snow
and rivers or lakes that rise
and go over their
banks. Specifically, the
Antelope Valley suffers from
flash floods. A flash flood
occurs after several hours of
rain that is caused by
thunderstorms. Flash floods
have destroyed homes,
vehicles, public properties and
are known to be the number
one weather related killer in
the United States. It is
important that we educate
ourselves about our
surrounding areas and the city
that we live in, in order to
prepare ourselves for future
flash floods. The number one
sign that we could pay
attention to is, rain! Secondly,
pack an extra change of
clothes, plenty of water and
extra food in case you have to
pull over to a safe designated
area. Lastly, listen to updated
news reports and tune in to
the radio for current events
and weather related warnings
in the immediate area.
