harassment messes up your life and your peace of mind. it messes up your
sense of safety.
why do plenty of other campus orgs get to have facebooks get to play free
speech but now my IP viability is being shut down.
and maybe he should tell jack dorsey that twitter should go down. or like any
other company, he could just buy me.
buy: http://twitter.com/LACCharass or tell that wild and crazy guy
zuckerberg that Facebook is making LACC look bad. so please can we just
TURN OFF THE INTERNET????????
http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=100001079162018
and what about my youtube channel. shouldn't he get all mad that youtube
exists? and bambuser?
i really just think i and sheila dharod should be publicly executed or tarred
and feathered on LACC's quad to punish us for fighting this school's laziness
and corruption.
i think eric needs to write google, but i am not a lawyer, despite being
obsessed with cyberlaw. tell them, wawa.
so, dear LACC gen couns. please give me the works!!! ask me to gut my
youtube!
http://www.youtube.com/user/maryeng1
this is what needs to get covered up:
one that covers all my youtube videos mentioning the name LACC, my twitter
my fafafafafaffacebook (yes i really i really don't like facebook, i'm just trying
to more adequately kiss up to accel, in-q-tel, and narus insight . . . and get
surveilled/crunched/commodified)
what about this website that grabbed my copyleft youtube of the creepy
extraction of sheila dharod.
http://videos.apnicommunity.com/Video,Item,1488035855.html
they are making ad-rev off LACC harassment. at least they are turning it into
something positive:$
total human liberation
"This guy is a hypocrite and a coward. Let's see he can hide behind the First
Amendment so can spew his sexist speech but you don't have the same First
Amendment right to speak about what you find objectionable about his speech. He is
a real tough guy when he corners a student and threatens her with the pain of
suspension from exercising her rights but when the student retains a lawyer and
challenges his legal right to censor the students speech he gets riles up, spews
nonsense (jump in a pool) and then clams up."
they are so funny because on the one hand they defend the use of the
language---but if i report it they are totally humiliated and embarrassed
I'm glad you are doing something about this department. In March I asked
Eckford for applications for the Social Science department scholarships. He
told me and other students that there would be no scholarships this year due
to funding issues.
Oh, turns out, there were scholarships awarded. Perhaps he only gave
applications to people he personally knows?
He also hasn't given out any information about the Social Science honors
society, which gives out awards/inducts students every May. It's almost June
and the LACC social science department website hasn't been updated to
reflect anything about this. What the hell is going on here....?

jump in a pool of water: teacher to lawyer advice
can you imagine a head of an academic department telling a lawyer
representing a student
to "jump in a pool of water." i think that is a polite way to say, go drown
yourself, or go for a swim.
then if the head of the department said he would "hang up on your dumb
ass," wow . . . well it happened.
i was hoping fink could help sort out whether or not i was in a coercive little
meeting today designed to intimidate me out of my "free speech" "rights"
with a threat of suspension from class.
wow.
fink was so nice and complimentary and said i was so bright and had a great
vocab. i really needed some support bc i have been so down lately.
fink said why not let them suspend me and then see what's next. or delete it,
or censor.
i don't think we're sure what's going on here.
why do the teachers get unlimited speech, and i get none, none in school and
none on the blogosphere.
so i can't decide what to do, but feel that a censored blog is better than no
blog and no grade and a suspension.
so how about i tell you guys, that eckford defends the use of "bitching" and
"tits and ass" and "asshole" and "shitty" in class and told the lawyer calling
on my behalf to "jump in a pool" and that he would "hang up on your dumb
ass."
i got wind of that teacher was consulting attorneys and he said he would sue
me and that my blog was "illegal."
once again, i'd like to offer the apology, sorry about the internet.
so if you see 1984, 1984=censored to protect the identity of the professor and
department, and *=censored & so trashy that even if they said it it looks more
aesthetically appealing as an asterix.
and plus they are super-smart and articulate and lawyers and techies.
and as for the accusation of a good old "cyberstalk" concept, i'd like to remind
the teachers and administration that the emotional distress experienced in
result of the epithets and classes could just might cause me to off myself.
so in that case, like the UCLA suicide case wayback, would the administrators
be liable for missing the warning signs? protecting a hostile atmosphere? just
wondering.
so yeah.
eckford said if we took away bitch and tits and ass and asshole there would be
only three words left with which to teach . . . dig it?
~if "bitching" and "asshole" and "tits and ass" were forbidden, that there would only be three
words left, (in the english language, i wonder?????) so that brings their vocab options up to at
least 10 words plus or minus some conjunctions.~
and so fink totally is not into holocaust denial. he sees the hate speech
significance and so do i boy let me tell you! i'm obsessed.
but so why is the denial of the holocaust of domestic violence, rape, pay
inequity, war rape, work harassment, school harassment, church-supported
discrimination okay?
i mean when you say "bitch" is it really divorced from the legacy of cruelty to
women?
i told eckford i saw a direct linguistic lineage linking this to the civic denials
of suffrage and education and property rights to women.
plus oh yeah what about the indexability of the people who plagarized my
blog in indonesia and sent it through online translators and added internet
adverts.
i can't delete their plagiarism. so if it gets indexed, that's just the nature of
the internet.
that's why my marketing advice is to flood the internet with good press, or
the bad press will be the only press to float to the top.
and what i still don't get is that, if the facts of what have happened in the
class are so perfectly legal and okay, why am i being asked to participate in
the cover-up?
if it is that embarrassing, why say it to begin with? its the internet age. if the
1984 department is such a crusader for free speech rights and academic
freedom why do they want to censor my factual anecdotes about the words
used in the class.
boring.
plus: fink scoped me out for being a james joyce reader. isn't that nice. some
of us love chaos. i told him i try not to read james joyce anymore. law and
wikipedia are just so entertaining.
as i walked from [1984], i talked to some girls. one said another teacher was
making her cry. and that he tells her he is "too sensitive."
i mentioned this to the counselor at holmes hall, a woman of the older
generation. i just stormed in and began sobbing and asked if there is
counseling available. the counselor said "too sensitive" is code for a feminine
perspective. and that as more women get more advanced degrees, hostility
for them takes these subtle or not so subtle forms.
i told the girls that the free tuition will not be such a savings when i add up all
the grief it has caused me.
i told them that i have never been pushed this far.
i marched up to [1984]'s office to let him know [1984] thinks "*ing" is okay
for the classroom.
[1984] said put it in an email.
[1984] was very sympathetic when i described how awkward it is to be
around an agressive male who shouts and gives into his anger and base
instincts.
it is bringing out the worst in me.
[1984] told me of the way his friend is harassed for being a woman in a high
position in her job and that people say its because she has "* and *," a phrase
which resonates with hostility and a phrase which [1984] used when i asked
him if he could be more respectful.
ask him about his "*hole hypothesis."
[1984] loves to take up 20 minutes explaining how there are two kinds of
people in the world, *holes, and non-*holes.
contextually, [1984] was illustrating how mad he is for people thinking he's
french, not german. hence, "*ing." european cultural pride can be so
irrational, anyway. like what? is there something so wrong with being *? why
get so angry?
and then he was saying he would be "*ing" at us if we skipped class or were
late or something like that. hasn't he heard of the blogosphere? why not try
to make a reputation for diplomacy, kindness, helpfulness,
gentleness. i wouldn't let my children around people so foul mouthed.
when i told the ASO that their cruelty to sheila, and their protection of the
harassment and intoxication of a minor was so offensive, compounded with
the verbal abuse and salacious language of lanzer, lewis, and [1984]---would
lead me to tell my sister
DO NOT GO TO A SCHOOL LIKE THIS.
and indeed, i told my sister.
my sister is brilliant, gentle, and elegant. i want so much more for her!!!!!!!!
i wrote bartelt a hand written note about how hard it is to come to school as i
struggle with rape trauma, depression, and agraphobic-like symptoms.
why does he have to be so aggressive? "i have no sympathy for anorexia and
bulimia" he said tuesday.
hearing all this agressive speech just makes me feel bad. it makes a lot of us
feel . . .
the girls told me to take back the word * and even the word *. i don't use
these words.
that if the teachers are going to be so disrespectful, it's okay to take those
words back.
at vanderbilt, i studied simone de beauvoir, luce irigaray whose language
theory bears similarity to anthropology's sapir whorf hypothesis, that
language shapes the way you see the world.
i read virginia wolf, naomi klein, erica jong, all the old feminist philosophers
till i was blue in the face.
i had teachers like william franke, who speaks latin, greek, italian, french,
german. he studied at oxford.
his presence was like that of an angel. every word from his mouth was like
poetry.
he taught augustine and dante.
david wood taught nietzsche and heidegger. he advocated ethical
vegetarianism. he brought in a piano recording of nietzsche's little heard
compostion, which sounded much like schubert.
dr john carpenter was expert at japanese art history, and dealt delicately with
issues of gender, belief, nature, commerce in the floating world, ukiyo-e.
i am so thrilled he has a great job now at the university of london. he
deserves it!
http://www.soas.ac.uk/staff/staff30727.php
he told me not to drop out of school. tat it was students like me that make
teaching worthwhile.
he didn't understand the financial strain i was under. or maybe, he could
imagine.
sara beardsworth taught the graduate level kristeva seminar, and allowed me
to come to her classes.
she was patient and gentle and deliberate in her manner.
this was my philosophy teacher!!!!! she was so graceful and kind and
respectful!!!!! i remember it.
Sara Beardsworth
Associate Professor
Ph.D., University of Warwick
Nineteenth and twentieth century European philosophy, Hegel, critical theory, feminist philosophy,
psychoanalysis. Author ofJulia Kristeva: Psychoanalysis and Modernity. Editor of Julia Kristeva’s
Ethical and Political Thought: Spindel Conference Proceedings. Articles on Kristeva, Freud,
Irigaray, Adorno, and Benjamin"
and then idit dobbs-weinstein bears no words. she had to sue vanderbilt to
keep her job. she introduced me to blanchot, to shoah, to prospero's books,
to dead sea soap, to fava beans. she walked with the grace of a ballet dancer.
she told me something about being young, and coming into focus. she
wanted us to learn as many languages as possible. she had greek and latin
and hebrew and french and german.
our classes were actually like cutting deep inside etymology and text.
"festine lente," she would say: make haste slowly.
she hinted at how poorly she was treated by her colleagues, whether because
of anti-semitism or sexism or . . . don't you wonder?
one of the LACC women told me how hard it is to raise a child and go to
school, and she feels faculty are insensitive to her needs.
amazingly by the time i got to the health service, i was in tears.
i found jerome hard at work on a legal defense at holmes hall.
he has such a great legal mind. i told him i was so proud of him, and that my
mood shot from zero to 100.
he asked me what happened in my life to make me so sensitive to
discrimination and justice issues.
i told him racist police brutality, and the racist lynching of a boy when i was a
child in my neighborhood in nashville tennessee. and the racist families who
whose kids wouldn't play with my brother and i because we played with
danielle and and danjele.
and then i told jerome, almost getting killed a few times.
getting my skull stomped on by a deranged psychotic man. getting
stranggled by another deranged one. hit over the head by a carjacker. life is
fragile. i should be dead. everything that happens is extra!!!
after you have almost been killed, after you have fought for your life, after
you have been abused, everything is different.
there is a different kind of courage, after atrocity.
after torture.
in a sad haze after visiting [1984] and passman and jerome robinson who is
working on sheila dharod's appeal and the holmes hall student health,
i sat outside theater class on the second floor of administration. it was
wonderful. the teacher is great. i have stopped before to listen outside. he
talked about shaw, gorky, ibsen, checkov. lighting and color and set design.
magically i was transported to a more innocent time. my brain felt so happy
to be around literature again, and creatives, and a genuinely enthusiastic
non-hostile manner. next week they move on to theater of the absurd, my
favorite, although i am fascinated by the theater of cruelty of antonin artaud.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theatre_of_Cruelty
[1984] kindly asked me to write it up (the use of the word "*ing" in class).
but really this is just too much work.
too bad my friend g. is so condescending about community college. he is
pretty classist and negative like that. he doesn't know what its like to be poor
and want an education so desperately, you'd put up with unimaginative
professors with anger issues.
cristy passman, ombudsman, said well the guys are "getting off on" the foul
language, as if that alone justified it. "getting off" is a vulgar expression. i
wonder where she learned it. cristy is normally defensive of the abuse, but in
a polite way. but yesterday she calmly explained that if the guys are "getting
off" it's okay. harassment. and she doesn't consider it harassment. and it
was so much worse in the sixties, blahblahblah.
i met today the gracious jane baxter spilios of the LACC speech department.
she has a gracious way, uncommon to our modern era. i told her i heard
she's great teacher. it was so comforting to speak to her about language. she
spent a long time with me. she is so eloquent, and is appalled at the language
i have heard in the paralegal and [1984] departments.
she is from a different time.
Ms. Spilios was shocked to hear a run-down of the assorted tawdry language
young LACC women encounter from their young male professors.
she recommended i cantact passman, but i explained that she is no help. she
is cover-up oriented.
she collects a check for nothing, and is rude to me, in a very subtle way.
i like it that she is subtle, whereas, the teachers are more overt, out of control.
i had to explain the crude significance of "getting off" to Ms. Spilios who is
not familiar with the connotation of this slang. i think she is almost
eighty . . .
in her speech classes she has a specific day when they discuss language No-
no's. words that will hurt the effect of your speech, impugn your character,
perhaps get you fired, or damage your career. I asked her what it was like to
be a writer. i told her how much i admired emily dickinson and virginia
woolf. she wrote a book Improve Your Spoken English, a book written for
the exchange students at LACC in the fifties. She told me about the vietnam
era on campus. and fearing for her safety, when hooligan students were
stealing and damaging property, prior to the campus security protection.
they had a system, where they would bang on the walls, to mobilize students
for defense, in case of riot or attack!
the classrooms promised to protect each other.
when i felt such kindness and graciousness from the counselor at the health
department and from Professor Spilios, i realized that LACC has a hidden
resource for me. As the tears burn my eyes, i realize, i will return to these
kind gracious women, who have incredible strength of character, and
wisdom.
they are not like the young women, who are so blind to the internalized
misogyny and so brainwashed by TV that they think IDIOCRACY at LACC is
okay.
these gracious elder women come from a time when politeness and kindness
were valuable traits. they obviously value education immensely. they
understood. they didn't try to blame me for feeling bad, the way cristy
passman does, blaming it on my past, or my sensitivity, and complaining that
i am causing too much paperwork.
i think cristy knows that her job could be in question.
she claimed yesterday, "i am just too low on the totem pole" to implement
policy change.
she appreciated my offer to help distribute the harassment policy to the
classroom bulletin boards.
i could be her free intern, to help stand up for students who are treated
poorly.
i told her about my disability access entusiasm.
she gave me a speech about, we do so much. wonderful.
great.
but i don't think she understood my proposal: guerilla videoblogging of class
and archiving for edu resource material databases. blah.
i think the internet copyriot open data revolution isn't hitting my campus.
we're in a digital divide. arguing for high-tech strategies for disability rights i
think is so important.
i told her about my friend with dyslexia. then she tried to blame my friend
for being held back academically. i told her it was complicated. she wasn't
being sensitive.
susan matranga (OSS director) was excited at first about my ides, but then
was kind of rude to me, because she didn't understand my emails.
it was discouraging.
today, the counselor completely understood how demoralizing this classroom
arrogance is. she let me sob. she gave me a hug. she comes from a different
generation, closer to that of my grandparents, who were extremely gracious.
she said i do not have to listen to the teacher's attempts to smother my voice
"you have no case."
i spoke later with a friend of how it might be to be civilized and kind.
i think constantly of the film IDIOCRACY, set in a time in the future
dystopia.
when i told my teacher, "the moral of the story is not to listen to women" i
was making fun of how he gives preference to the boys in answering
questions.
and he looked at me like "what?" i said,
"because i am a *."
i have never said this in my life. i think the bad vibes are rubbing off on me. i
think i was making parody of his vulgarity, to show him how absurd he
sounds. to show him that if he continually disparages women, christians,
bulimics, whoever---so far as he's concerned, i am a * and i am *ing.
but i don't think of it that way at all.
i think of it like this: i care a lot about justice and fairness. my mom said my
dad cared about fairness more than anyone she had ever met.
sorry about the typos and the bad language.
sorry about LACC.
Yes, he does come off negative and treat students like they
have learning disabilities...
no pressure, but i hope you agree that "*" has a specific connotation that
can be extremely offensive from many angles.
i wrote [1984](1984) a note explaining why it causes me such grief
and reignites the rape (and near murder) trauma i fight daily.
it hurts so much.
the fact that pop culture LA uses it every other word now in every
context is no excuse.
my friend * does not like his close minded style and signed her
name to the complaint and has expressed her dissatisfaction.
* thinks he is unfair to her and i wrote him to tell him not to put
her down when she talks.
* says that he sees the women cast their eyes down, when [1984] says
negative things about women.
after he was totally rude and unfair to * and had said "*ing" twice
at the beginning of class, i could not focus on the review because
i felt shaky around this crass hostile atmosphere.
i want you to know that the only reason i kept this class was so my
financial aid was not revoked.
check the collegian for the ASO scandal and the harassment of
sheila dharod.
i think another lawsuit is brewing.
and skewing the context in which he said "* and *" to be some
barnyard utopia in a loud hostile tone when i asked for more
respect---
and if you know me, you will know that i hate this word so
much!!!! it hurts me so much!!!
i was shaking through class. i have severe trauma.
i have been beaten multiple times and called this very word by the
aggressor.
why can't he be sensitive.
i'm so sorry for the victim and i applaud her courage to speak out and press
charges. full pdf available on the facebook eventually and the scribd.com
document will be available soon too.
hey, that's andrea bari voting. thanks so much to the collegian for
everything.
APPRECIATE DIVERSITY!!!
DEMAND RESPECT!
the internet is sorry about the blogosphere and wishes people would stop
doing stupid stuff.
but warning:::::if you continue to harass women and minorities on campus I
WILL BLOG ABOUT IT, so your kids can know how creepy you were back in
2010.
and if you are thinking about coming to the school, you will need so much
therapy, the cheap tuition isn't so big a discount.
the way i handle stress is writing and art. sometimes spending sprees. it
used to be overeating. now its undereating. i think the bad vibes at LACC are
actually making me lose weight.
but i know my brain needs food. but ASO harassment, and the paralegal
department harassment, and cristy passman's protection of the abuse, make
me want to throw up.
"fair? no worries. we did not even read it. she was extracted like the cancer
she is"
i want to get my hands on the email exchange.
i can't believe he would right
the collegian debuted their articles regarding the underage student who
claims zetino bought her alcohol with school money and verbally harassed
her in a sexual way. the student has dropped out of school.
i wonder what other emails would shed light on all these LACC scandals.
youtube annotation:
jerome robinson reads cruel "extracted like the cancer she is" email penned
by LACC ASO president james butler-zetino.
the collegian today published an expose of zetino's alleged harassment of a
minor and attempt to get her drunk on school money.
unbelievably, the ASO president, in addition to supporting the defamation
campaign of sheila dharod (who exposed the corruption), has no clue about
email as e-evidence. do not say anything in an email you don't want to see in
court, or that conveys corruption and such animosity and cruelty. amazing
that this comes to light.
LACC feels like a greek tragedy.
with so much hatefulness, i feel fear.
thank you jerome for shining a light on this cruelty!
youtube annotation:
"if sheila were my own sister or my own daughter i would tell her please don't
go to a school like this. it's just, it's just, really, really a shame. i hope you all
wish better for your children."
that's me talking, mary eng. don't you like my flowing black clothes? it
makes it more dramatic. but it is really sad.
i felt like a babysitter giving the motivational speech about world peace and
the future.
i think ASO needs the two hour seminar version.
i bet they have been reading "winning through intimidation" instead of "how
to win friends and influence people."
1. attack colleagues
2. publicly humiliate yourself to such an excessive degree that people want to
film it and put it on youtube in case there is a lawsuit, or someone needs to
establish a record of lack of HR skills
3. pettiness
4. aggressiveness
5. mendacity
6. meanness
7. the LACC administration is lazy and unimaginative and will protect you if
you harass others because they are cowardly and self-serving
8. cruelty
9. how to turn a small scandal into a big scandal through short-sightedness
and amplifying the effect
(getting it all over the blogosphere and school newspaper)
10. harassing and inebriating minors is okay if you gag the witness and
impeach her from your government
11. emails are forever
12. youtube is forever!!!
13. harass a woman, blame it on a woman
14. try to harass the press and intimidate them from documenting abuse

at least LACC doesn't taser us!
duffy is amazing!!!!!
watching a few classes would change the way you shop, vote, bank, eat. now
all the highlighting of those egregious moments, have prompted a change. it
is a perceptible change. and i bet he will be an even more amazing teacher in
30 years. and that learning to respect women in the classroom could happen
at any age, and the sooner the better. it is because he is a great teacher that
he is worth the time to fine-tune the kinks. thats what yelp and ratemyprof
etc are all about. youtube.
i thought with him being young he would be hip to the web. well i sort of
hoped.
(send sargeant Pfeiffer a thank you note for not tasering you [if you are from
the middle east] on campus!!!!! now you love LACC!!!! can you believe
this????? tasering at UCLA!!!!)
RIP
LACC student executed by LAPD for autism or existing or whatever . . .

Shoot first, ask questions later?
all the anger and hate i saw at ASO actually really scares me.
i don't think we here at city college are going to taser and murder each other.
cross your fingers.
when passions run high, it is better not to insult each other. all the slurs and
back biting, i think come from personal issues, or economic woes, or deep-
seated trauma.
i don't think anyone on campus really hates women, or sheila dharod. i think
they are just projecting their negative feelings about their self-esteem or their
past bad relationship, onto particular victims, women in general, minorities,
or whoever else is the recipient of hate.
so 1984.
that's why we should be nice and peaceful to each other. every time i see the
ASO people i say "stop the hate" and "peace and kindness" and such things.
i don't feel like i can have a conversation with the people who i witnessed
engage in a vicious mob attack against sheila.
i feel a bad energy cloud. a little shaky just thinking about it. it impairs my
feeling of safety. mad dogs with blood on their fangs.
i am soooooooooo glad its on youtube.
true they didn't taser sheila and put her in handcuffs. but they staged a mob
attack. gosh it hurts me that they would do this to anyone, woman or man,
from any background.
the office of civil rights federal division is about to start their investigation
when i get my release back to them.
i wonder if anyone at the American Bar Association cares that all the
professors of the paralegal department rolled over and played dead while a
paralegal student in our program was harassed, defamed, and humiliated in
violation of fed and state law and ASO process.
that's smart.
and professor harassment doesn't help. nor do professors who role over and
play dead when a woman is burned at the stake for exposing administration
and student corruption.
hate-free zone
the signal is quite weak today. hope this publishes.
LACC needs better internet. talked with the moore and peters about IT block
of videostream for bambusering classes for disability access. we need online
curricula. archived lectures. for the dyslexic, the blind, and for all of us. for
the people who can't afford the time spent going to free school at LACC. even
if we are poor as dirt, we are rich to afford the luxury of the time it takes to
study at free community college.
Vargas is such a great teacher. i am listening to his family law class right now.
had a great time yesterday talking to dr. jamillah moore, president of the
university, and to earic peters.
they were supportive of the idea for an Equality Coalition. Earic peters had a
lot of good ideas for the social equity club idea. Jamillah encouraged me to
finish my paralegal degree and not get too caught up in club ideas. I actually
am thinking along the lines of a civil rights study group, looking at the ADA
and civil rights acts in terms of how they affect students.
the most telling part was in which i explained that students do not
understand the procedure, and that is where the club might serve as an
interface, to make the procedure and the law comprehensible and universally
understood for all students.
ala
these are your rights
this is what to do if they are infringed upon
do not take it lying down.
blahblahblah.
jamillah said that is what perhaps she and earic as administrators take for
granted, that we know what to do, that the process is in the handbook.
i told them how the first time i heard offensive things in class, i stumbled
around from room to room, looking for the administrative process, in
disbelief.
i told the department chair, but he was unbelievably protective of the abuse.
i wonder.
i mentioned that a club could be an interface between the policy and the
students, who often feel uncomfortable, or submerge their critique with
ignorance or distrust of the grievance procedure. while i understand the
grievance procedure, i distrust it.
someone from LACCD left an unidentified message on my voicemail
explaining that they refer me to christie passman. i duplicated my
complaints, so they could be "in the loop."
the sort of pass the buck poker game is a bit entertaining. that they couldn't
identify themselves on the message was quite funny. it was like, "hi. not our
problem. bye."
i realize there was a procedural error with my 2009 complaint. i found a rules
and grievance procedure redux, to which i am entitled copies, which
describes my right to make an oral statement to the college president or to
the deputy chancellor.
i never was given the opportunity.
jamillah in 2009 referred me back down to CO cristy passman (compliance
officer) and now she tells me we cannot talk about my discrimination claim
pending the investigation.
i am going to send this to cristy and ask how she interprets this. i think i have
a chance to explain to the decision making bodies, and that this right has
been blurred over in the interpretation of the policy.
deep in the heart of campassion, there is a beautiful future for the students of
LACC, and anywhere.

as i walked across campus today i got tears in my eyes thinking about how
much LACC means to me.
i have seen both sides of the academic spectrum in america.
it really hurt to have no money for food or clothes and to be surrounded with
insanely rich kids with big egos.
i want it all!
i want to embrace the many cultures of LACC and make it a better safer place
for all of us.
as i looked at the collegian today, i realized what a good job they are doing.
i loved the article about the polisci teacher who took inspiration from both
malcolm x and MLK.
i felt so sad about the armenian genocide, and the murder of the autistic
student by the LAPD in koreatown.
i completely love the fact that they are writing about the lack of healthy food
on campus.
the styrofoam really bothers me.
we have to lose the styrofoam!!!
it's illegal in portland oregon!
it leaches into food and is really bad for the human health!
i hope the collegian liked my "press kit" for all the materials i prepared in the
last week regarding various acts of hate and intolerance on campus. sexism
is alive and well in some communities. we can accept diversity without
accepting an abridgment of our rights or dignity.
please do not use the word "NAZI" in ASO documents!!! i cannot believe that
ASO is so callous!!!!
i told him he seemed to be making such a crass generalization, and that after
growing up in the south, i could attest to the fact of so many educated
eloquent persons of color in many fields.
i spent a semester at the historically black Tennessee State University. it was
amazing. that the schools were historically segregated!!! and that the
residual racism in the south is high!!! and going to TSU was so
empowering!!!! there were so many incredibly focussed academically
motivated people going to school there!
i am really sorry too that the learning resource center has been robbed.
i am really sorry that the ASO has been circulating sheila dharod's personal
address and telephone number as a part of their defamation campaign.
they didn't even have the insight to black it out!
i really like jainism. gandhi's mother was jain. jains beieve in non-violence
(ahimsa) as their highest principle.
i found this little bit of wisdom in 2003 in a yoga magazine. it really helped
me a lot.
so ahimsa--or nonviolence---must be integrated into the speech and the
mind.
when the ASO launches a personal attack and says a lot of mean
unsubstantiated things about sheila, they are really unleashing a tyrrany of
violence, which is impacting all of us.
so all the hatefulness i witnessed at ASO and recorded for youtube just eats
my soul.
my teacher brian bartelt, the day of his outburst, was discussing something
from his brilliant thesis paper. he references the crystalline structure of water
as it can be altered by sound, an idea popular in many meditational practices.
http://spiritofmaat.com/archive/aug1/consciouswater.html
and with that as premise, if our bodies are water, and sound and thought can
change the structure of water, isn't that all the more reason not to abuse each
other with words of hate and disrespect.
that my class could vear from so much brilliance to so much banality in a
matter of minutes astounded me.
i have really held bartelt to task for some fine-tuning.
he has a clean web trail. i resisted looking him up for weeks, because i resent
the invasions of the facebook culture. all i found was this.
http://digitallibrary.usc.edu/search/controller/view/usctheses-m220.html
i read it twice and a half.
i would set my text to speech to read it to me so i could really learn it. it's
brilliant. in a way, i still have hope. i tend to avoid truly hopeless causes.
that i ask bartelt to be more respectful, is because i have faith that it is in the
range of possibility. i hope he is smart enough to see now, why it is
important. i am sorry his verbal excesses have made it into this blog.
there is a sad weird thing about internet speech.
i have been reading about it here http://www.splc.org/
as a purveyor of the open data ethos and un-intellectual property spirit, i am
all for sharing, republication, no rights reserved, replication, copy, alter,
remix, distort.
share freely and realize property is an illusion!!!!!!
maybe i should make an LACC rap?
i feel like some of ye olde professors don't know much about the internet.
i think some great entrepreneurs will come up with a YELP for schools, which
is better than ratemyprofessors.com, and more comprehensive.
wouldn't that be great???
so when teachers try to get away with crazy stuff in class they really should be
prepared to see it go up on to the blogosphere immediately!!!!
and same for fellow students who can't keep there hatefulness to the privacy
of their minds, but for some reason, want to spew it all over us like vomit.
ASO, stop the hate!!!
hmmm.
and what is the fine line between peacefulness in speech and satygraha, truth
action?
i can't stand by and see so much violence at LACC. it is liek a microcosm of
all the worst in humankind, being enacted upon us.
how can i demand justice and peacefulness and move into the future?
how can i forget what i have seen???
and if anybody on the campus has violent tendencies, do not push them over
the edge with racism, sexism, and other intolerances!
this is dangerous!
teachers!!!!
students!!!!
please!!!!!
STOP THE HATE

Dear Office of Civil Rights, Gene Little, Jamillah Moore, Cristy Passman,
Lawrence Bradford, ABA standard committee on paralegals, and LACC
Collegian.
RE: Los Angeles City College Harassment
Thank you for looking over my reports. I am dismayed that the incidents of
harassment and hostile atmosphere towards women and minorities are so
severe at LACC that i feel that i must complain to all of you.
I believe paralegal student Sheila Dharod's privacy has been breached in the
circulation of ASO files to the public if they attended the LACC ASO meetings
5-4-10.
Her number and address are on the circulating "evidence" that was offerred
to the public.
The word "Nazi" is used on the SCCC memo. The ASO reproduction of this
memo and recirculation of this memo (as evidence against Sheila), i consider
embarrassing and offensive to holocaust survivors.
The underage woman is filing criminal charges against the current ASO
president.
I was screamed at by ASO VP for finance Joseph Tolle under the election tent
wed 4-28-10 at 6:30 pm, when i told him not to touch my shoulder. He
immediately lied to cover for himself, as he then did the next day to Earic
Peters, saying that i screamed and touched him first, both untrue.
He wrote me a very disgusting email defining the word "tit" 4-17-10 which i
found to be both insulting to my intelligence, and harassing.
Richard Lewis in the paralegal department spoke profusely of hookers and
prostitution repeatedly all semester spring 2009. He also publicly harassed a
woman of color, Talissa Love, humiliated her, and graded her poorly. She
missed class to avoid the harassment. She told me she was also harassed by
her gym teacher.
My friend Eric Hamilton said his english teacher was sexist so he dropped
the class.
ACLU campus club founder Lawrence Vasquez told me his teacher was
saying negative things about "Mexicans."
Professor Duffy in the law department makes jokes about women being
"cheesecakes" and about the wife who eats bon-bons all day and gains 100
pounds and tries to take her husband's fortune. he also could not answer the
legal question of property division in same sex marriages in the state of
California during the brief window that these occurred, repeating the
definition that "marriage is between a man and a woman." His tone was
perceptibly stern with the gay male who helped follow up on my initial
question, which followed the bon-bon comment in property law. He also
joked that stdents could sit in eachother's laps if they were attractive enough.
My reports:
7. 2009 complaint regarding law professors Lewis, and Lanzer, the Vargas
screening of an extremely violent and verbally epithetical film in criminal
law, and Department Chair Tim Sweetman's protection of the abuse.
i fear that immediate action from a high level and a lawsuit are the only
things that will help out the carnival know as LACC.
I am dismayed that department chair Tim Sweetman and Ombudsman for
Discrimination and harassment Cristy Passman are so protective of abuse.
My educator friends at other schools have told me this kind of activity would
lead to immediate suspensions.
I have spent hours of grief documenting this abuse, discussing it with other
students, and blogging it. I feel the adverse effect to my educational
experience to be an extreme violation of my guarantee of equality in
education.
Eric Kim, LCC district counsel asked me to take down my blog, supposedly
for intellectual property reasons.
i wish you all would do more to prevent future abuses and punish those who
have abused the students of LACC.
Honorably,
Mary Eng

i really appreciate the fact that women and men are involved in their
leadership, and that they are anti-racist, and on some levels fight racist
immigration policy.
she has been coming to the thursday 4pm intellectual property law club at
Holmes Hall.
thursday she said she would go blog up her story, and possibly make reports.
she came to the top of a bing search of "ASO LACC." go bing!
she has an amazingly smart young tech genius son.
lucky him to have a techy mom!
It was then that I went to the Dean of Student Life at Los Angeles City
College and filed a complaint. I am also in the process of talking
to http://www.campusreform.org about the situation. I will also be
heading to my school paper to let them know what is going on. This
should not be tolerated.
The thing is I don’t have embrace liberal ideology to be able to
represent the students as a whole in the Senate. Just like they don’t
have to embrace my conservative ideology. The thing is that they
want a yes man, someone will just go along for the ride and not make
any waves. Well they are not going to get that in me. I can represent
all students because I will listen to all students and take the best
ideas from them and run with them. But they just want a liberal
parrot. I wasn’t going to lie or downplay my conservatism. I feel they
should know exactly who they are they getting and if this was a club
on campus like the Liberal Lions or some other club that pretty much
catered to only liberal minded students then that is one thing. But you
can’t say you represent the student population when you clearly do
not!
This is not also the first time something like this has happened to me.
I was up for an internship during August. It was a paid internship. I
would be helping to recruit students and organizing events. To show
my experience in organizing political events-though truth be told they
were small-I told them about my work with Silent No More Awareness
Campaign and the male professor on the committee who is a political
science professor-laid into me. “Well we are pretty far left do you think
you could promote our agenda?” He went from “pretty far left” to
“extremely left” to trying to bait me about my abortion views. He was
antagonistic and all in pretty obnoxious and I was glad I wouldn’t have
to be working with this man. With his hostile attitude I thought they
might be staging a coup d’etat or something. The fellow student I
would’ve been working with was nice, friendly and even if he was
“extremely left” he had the common decency not to display any such
obnoxious and unprofessional behavior! He was definitely a class act
which is more than I can say for that professor! I don’t remember his
last name but his first name was Zack and I am sorry I didn’t have a
chance to work with him, I think we could’ve learned a lot from each
other.
i can't wait to personally write my fellow student thanks! for his comment re:

if you get a chance, check out the latest banality at LACC regarding the
defamation campaign against sheila dharod for exposing the student
government's drinking with an underage minor on teh school trip.
she has been verbally castigated and humiliated by a a very cruel student
government.
if you are not a victim of the abuse, it is totally easy to minimize the
suffering.
it takes a lot of imagination to have compassion.

FRIDAY, 7 MAY 2010
i wrote this letter two months ago in a fit of optimism about technology and
LACC and disabled student outreach and accessibility activism.
the idea was to record and broadcast classes for alternative learning
strategies.
i refer to the american foundation for the blind endorsement of the google
books project for text to speech and braille reader access.
i wrote the founders of bambuser to thank them for their hard work and to let
them know that our economically challenged school really appreciates the
free technology!
susan matranga was initially supportive, but then backed off and told me not
to write her.
eckford also told me he had no time.
kendell told me he had no time.
somebody should care about tech. its 2010, right?
hello? LACC?
my 2-18-10 letter:
thank you for all your hard work and for inspiring your
students---i don't know if you understand the magnitude of
our thankfulness--
the trend with all the best schools is this digitization---and democratization of what
would be a very pricey experience--
so i can hear anthropology from oxford, or listen to stanford law, yale law, science
everything, climate change, even conservative think tanks, on Itunes U.
http://www.apple.com/support/itunes_u/
i have watched tech lectures in swedish from this amazing swedish start-up
bambuser
the idea being free info to anyone internationally---
super easy to start a channel and the embed code could go in the anthro club blog.
or we could do the same with club---
even if no one caught on initially---the connectivity---or utilization as a study tool
could really help people with bad eyes, attention issues etc
it would help to bring LACC up to date tech wise and reach into the ether realm---
pertaining to eco crises, literacy--
http://bambuser.com/
one need not necessarily participate in an OPEN DATA movement to become aware
of its potential---and web traces can be annoying to erase . . .
the audio file format may be an amazing compromise especially given the fact of
some kinds of learning "disabilities" which preference audio versus literary
communique.
for instance, my best friend with dyslexia would love your lecture if it were as easy
as sending a link.
and most importantly, the dearth of quality intellectual experience is such that i feel
that we---your students---are absolutely starving for this information----
but then again a unique experience might be better with less tech---
plus funny also USC film school fighting copyright for film
editing classes---where what is possible now in a classroom
has not relevance to the old laws

the Howard University School of Law. I'd like to thank the
Court for this opportunity to address
Very nice man although a bit bitter over his divorce and
women altogether. Also very funny and extremely helpful. He
is also not hard on the eyes. I would suggest his class to
anyone, not too demanding, just get your reading done.
re: bartelt:
Knows the subject but can be biased. He tells students never to
put down others culture or religions but he always talks smack
about Christians. Although I'm an agnostic its really not cool
when he talks smack about others. Other than that he moves
through the material fast but his test are straight forward and
he prepares you for the tests.
I did not like Anthro before taking his class. Yes, he does come
off negative and treat students like they have learning
disabilities... But he has found a way to completely intrigue
students, very passionate about subject. Just don't miss class a
lot on tests is from class notes. Not so difficult once you get
into it. I completely recommend him.
First day of class I really thought I was going to like this guy;
he's hip and out there etc., whatever, and has lived an
interesting life. I loved and still love listening to his personal
anecdotes. With that said, he can be condescending and rude
like someone mentioned, so it's hard for me (personally) to
approach him and ask questions. Caution!
great teacher. you cat argue against that point logically. if you
dont like him then you got offended by something he said
about religion or something similar. he breaks everything
down perfectly, but you need to take great notes and give 100%
effort. great teacher if you want to learn and open minded bad
if your super religious aka close minded.
re:duffy:
(sorry about duffy hitting on a student, but if its true it may support my
theory that his 1950's style sexist humor is out-of -touch and not to mention
his homophobic feelings about gay marriage as it relates to property law)
I'm taking his class currently and his *** was hitting on me.
Also his class is really . . .
re: cabellero:
(i took him last summer and while he knows criminal law well, he often
made sexist jokes, or picked on individuals)
He is very strict and tough but is ok pokes fun at people
i was trying to get through to him about preventing lawsuits, by ensuring that
the professors and students don't harass other students or violate the CA
educational code.
kim referred me to gene little, head of diversity programs for the district.
when we talked i felt that gene was very dismissive and old school
complacent.
he said claims were often fabricated.
i will duplicate my records for the office of civil rights federal division.
but as i recall, they were very dismissive in 2009 when i reported the
paralegal department for protecting professor verbal abuse.
i liked how when i told eric kim about the "tits and ass" outburst, he asked
well, in what context?
"MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS YOU AND YOUR EFFORTS... WITH YOUR
INSIGHT MANY OF THE SPECIAL CHALLENGES WILL BE
OVERCOME.FOR STUDENTS FACULTY AND STAFF...WE DO NOT GIVE UP..
TAKES TIME TO REMOVE HATERS MIND SET IN PEOPLE"

i am so sorry this blog deals with such powerful stuff.
just so you know, i am filing harassment papers and mailing duplicates to the
legal affairs department in sacramento.
i know cristy passmanwill push these under the rug, just as earic peters has
done with my joseph tolle incident report.
2. joseph tolle repeatedly grabbing my shoulder and lying when i reported his
unwanted touching and screaming at me when i told him not to touch me
if anyone would like to attend as a part of the equality coalition please email
me!!!
i want this to be a team effort and team dialogue!!!!
jamillah was very concerned that the repeated harassment by professors and
students is causing a slip in academic performance and anxiety and
absenteeism.
she was very concerned and looked quite shocked to find out that we hear the
words
"tits and ass" and "slut" and "whore" etc in the classroom.
i believe she did her masters work in equality related issues, so i hope she
really cares and that we can motivate her to enact a new level of leadership
on campus.
i may scan them and put them on my scribd.com acct for a how-to demo for
the equality coalition.
about the porn graffiti, she told me she has contacted facilities and that i
could do so online.
i asked where online?
i think she could see i was not in the mood for chitchat and platitudes and
wanted to quickly put me in place as i was walking out the door.
as i returned to the holmes hall bathroom to photograph the evidence, i
wondered about taking things in stride.
i think it pertains to the "you are out of line" metaphor bartelt used in his
email to me.
does he mean out of line with the avant guarde, or the normal people? with
america, or with the future?
i think they are out of line with the future of equality.
they should come along for the ride, a beautiful future with no harassment,
and justice for the purpetrators and protectors.
phyllis tried to tell me to let the perpetrators off the hook.
i think she is focused on the future.
she speaks about the armenian genocide on my youtube channel, reading her
comment as was published in the collegian.
and also a source told me the LACC holmes hall women's room was in last
week's collegian!
way to go collegian.
did they show a picture of this?
does any one have the courage to defy this hate campaign on campus??
why is the faculty so laissez faire and so "good german" about this hate
campaign?
i told adamski cristy passman brushes it under one side of the rug, and dean
peters brushes it under the other.
and for the record, i really am tired of facebook etc, but have worked hard to
get all that facebookiness out there for those of you who only speak internet if
its translated into facebook.
so it is 2010.
recycling is in . . . why does LACC act like its the fifties???
is the smog making us stupid?
sheila offers grammar advice to the ASO, clarification of the faulty
"evidence," and points out the cover-up of LACC ASO misconduct.
i think this might be why she was removed . . .
she is the hero of my blog right now!!!!
i don't even think she knows how much i respect her for showing the light on
this creepy scene.

LACC fights to keep styrofoam legal and widely
available to the student body despite carcinogenic
impact
reminding us that eating healthy should be a part of our academic future.
the fact that LACC sponsors a food truck that uses polystyrene containers is so environmentally
deplorable and bad for human health.
see
http://www.verdant.net/nofoam.htm
A. REASONS WHY POLYSTYRENE FOAM IS BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND HUMAN HEALTH.
1. Toxic chemicals leach out of these products into the food that they contain. These chemicals
threaten human health and reproductive systems.
2. These products are made with petroleum, a non-sustainable, heavily polluting and disappearing
commodity.
3. The product does not biodegrade. It crumbles into fragments that have no expiration date.
5. Foam recycling is a public relations stunt, promoted by the chemical industries that
manufacture it. This is done in highly centralized, distant facilities using complex chemical
processes and expends far more energy than is ever saved by recycling the material.
unbelievably, even the airborne molecules of heterocyclic amines, which are formed when you
cook the creatine in muscle tissue, are carcinogenic when inhaled.
for more on this google heterocyclic amines.
this is so interesting from pubmed:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1749106
The purpose of this report is to summarize data on carcinogenic heterocyclic amines mainly from
the aspect of environmental medicine. Since 1977, a new series of heterocyclic amines has been
isolated as potent mutagens and they have been shown to be carcinogenic to experimental
animals. Among these carcinogens, carcinogenic amino-alpha-carbolines and amino-gamma-
carbolines are widely distributed in such components of the environment as airborne particles,
rain water, cigarette smoke, diesel exhaust particles and cooked foods. Moreover, most
carcinogenic heterocyclic amines are reported to be present in cigarette smoke. These facts
suggest that carcinogenic heterocyclic amines are likely to be ubiquitous environmental
pollutants. These results also support the hypothesis that carcinogenic heterocyclic amines may
be formed through combustion of various materials such as food, grass and petroleum.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8844793?
ordinalpos=1&itool=PPMCLayout.PPMCAppController.PPMCArticlePage.PPMCPubmedRA&linkpos=1
The mutagenic activity and the mass amount of heterocyclic amines responsible for the
mutagenic activity have been measured in some cooked foods. Cooked meats are the
predominant source of mutagenic activity in the diet with values ranging from 0 to 10,000
revertants per gram reported in the Ames/Salmonella test with strain TA98. Several heterocyclic
amines are present and have been quantified using solid-phase extraction followed by HPLC.
Frying at higher temperatures and for longer times produces the greatest mutagenic response,
and concomitantly, the largest amounts of heterocyclic amines. Most of the mutagenic activity in
fried meat samples can be accounted for by MeIQx(2-amino-3,8-dimethylimidazo[4,5-
b]quinoxaline), DiMeIQx (2-amino-3,4,8-dimethylimidazo [4,5-f]quinoxaline) and IQ (2-amino-3-
methylimidazo [4,5-f]quinoline), although other heterocyclic amines are present and PhIP (2-
amino-3-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine) mutagenic activity becomes significant at higher
temperatures. Non-meat products such as baked breads can also form significant mutagenic
activity, particularly when overcooked. Commercially prepared hamburgers made from meat
substitutes such as tofu, wheat gluten or tempeh and fried at 210 degrees C have up to 10% of
the mutagenic activity of a fried beef patty cooked under the same conditions. When detected,
amounts of heterocyclic amines in fried beef patties range from a total of 0.35 ng/g for
commercial beef hamburgers to 142 ng/g for a beef patty cooked over a barbecue. Dietary intake
is expected to have a large range, from less than one microgram per day to over 50 micrograms
per day based on current knowledge of known heterocyclic amine chemicals and heterocyclic
amine-containing foods.

joseph tolle screamed at me when i told him not to touch my shoulder (ultra
condescendingly).
he immediately lied saying i touched him first.
super untrue, but super quick save---fast on his toes, lying!
good job, liar!
quick thinking, harasser!
he screamed at me under the ASO election tent on LACC campus last
wednesday.
i wrote an incident report at the sheriff's.
"the crime or tort of unconsented physical contact with another person, even
where the contact is not violent but merely menacing or offensive. See also
assault and battery."
i hope he gets the consent of the next people he puts his hands on.
i don't think he will win his presidential election.
he also lied the next day to dean peters, saying i screamed at him.
i really admire someone who lies so quickly.

i think clearly smart women will be punished for it if they show their face at LACC.
so are they expelling sheila from the ASO because she exposed the alcohol

kicking a competent woman out of student government, and launching a huge hate campaign the
during election week, shows LACC students what losers fill the ASO.
i would never hang out with such creepy people if it were not to publicize their cruelty and
incompetence.
sheila dharod is a very strong and powerful leader and has exposed the pettiness of the ASO. sadly
the internet will now be filled with the bad press of yet more LACC cruelty and tax-waste.
sheila knows more about law and government than anyone in the room. she is extremely articulate and
calls out the ASO for their tax-funded incompetence. so it is only natural they want to remove her from
their club.
i question also the integrity of dean earic peters for allowing this to go on.
while future ASO president Lopez is apologetic in public, despite supporting the hate campaign, i
implicitly distrust him due to the violent speech i heard over the walls of the ASO offices.
at least he takes the time to be nice to my face, unlike joseph tolle, who took the time to scream at me
when i told him to stop touching my arm.
the presence of the sheriffs at the meeting added a surreal martial law effect.
i made a report of tolle's screaming and touching of my shoulder. the incident will be passed to
bradford, who will not respond to my emails.
i can also file criminal charges for battery, although the sheriff attempted to tell me that was not
appropriate. i find this pretty funny that he thinks i don't understand the concept of battery.
anyway, who wants their student government in handcuffs?
that would just be too bizarre.
i will think about it.
he wrote back:
MARY SO NICE TO HEAR FROM YOU .YOU ARE A WONDERFUL AND BRIGHT
STUDENT.I AM VERY SORRY TO HEAR WHAT YOU HAD TO DEAL WITH..THANKS FOR
HELPING SOME OF THE STUDENTS IN MY CLASS.CALL ME ANYTIME
the student who was hit over the head with the paper in anthro could also
indeed file a report for battery.
the officers seemed alarmed about the verbal aggressiveness of the students
and professors.
they agreed that they would not want their daughters screamed at in such
manner.
i will go back during the week when more staff are present to discuss the
options with the deputy.

I regret to inform you that earic peters will be forwarding two incident
reports to you regarding
ASO VP for finance screaming at me under the ASO election tent when i
asked him not to keep touching my shoulder.
he also lied vigorously in his defense.
i am also appalled by the proceedings against sheila and fear that any racist
sexist student government action could imperil LACC if administrators to not
halt what appears to me to be a campaign of petty hatred and discrimination
by a predominantly male group against a non-white woman.
i think this would never happen to a man or a white woman and i fear that
LACC risks a PR nightmare for allowing this character defamation to
continue.
i am meeting with jamillah and earic on may 14th at one o'clock to discuss my
ideas for a proactive Equality Coalition united against sexism, racism,
homophobia, disability discrimination, islamophobia, and professor
harassment.
i have heard the most offensive things in class from professors and feel
personally such anxiety and sadness that it affects my grades and ability to
focus on my studies.
the traumatizing effects of verbal abuse can last a lifetime, and are in direct
defiance of the educational code guaranty of equality in education and a
harassment free school place.
similar to his lie, "you touched me first, why the double standard."
and wondering if the ASO would conduct their little hate campagn against a
white man or a white woman?
part of why i looked so ill last week was also the detrimental effect of more
harassment from a young professor who shouted offensive things at me
i told him he was making me uncomfortable and yet he persisted and sent me
a cruel letter telling me i have no case to ask for women to be treated equally
and fairly in the classroom.
i think you are the best teacher the law department has, but nonetheless
could watch out lest your words not jive with the modern era.
as you oppose frivolous suits, so too wouldn't you hope that LACC do some
preventative work to make sure it follows this
http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/calawquery?
codesection=edc&codebody=&hits=20
edu code?
the fact that a teacher would boldly say "show your tits" twice in class and
then when called into question shout "tits and ass" to prove his "academic
freedom" is absurdly sickening to me.
and
"With all due respect, you are completely out of line. In no way can my class be described as "vulgar
and antiquated." I take offense at this gross misrepresentation. Before you levy such a charge against
me, I strongly suggest you think hard about what you are saying. You will see that you have no case."
can you imagine an adult teacher writing this in an email to another adult???
i think this email was almost worse than the class outburst bc it was so personal and such
an attempt to silence me.
by "antiquated" i mean an authoritarian tone which denigrates women and then attempts
to silence them by shouting and other forms of rudeness
i know you can't respond bc everybody has to protect their salary etc but i
thought i'd keep you in the loop.
too bad for the students and the fact that student bloggers will publish this on
the internet seems all the more reason for professors to exercise due care
thanks for all the classes and if you have any ideas for ways we can stop the
verbal abuse and the detrimental psychological effects, please let me know.
i was beset with so much anxiety spring 2009 bc of the horribly sexist and
unprofessional teaching style of lewis.
and lanzer's bitterness to women was all too clear and hateful.
multiple people have told me he asks out students and one girl dropped his
class for discomfort.
couldn't someone have a talk with him and explain to him that this is 2010?
thnx again and could you help tell the law team to be careful and stop
alienating students with bad behavior????
my experience has been poisoned, but it doesn't have to be that way for the
new students next fall.
thank you for keeping the academic level high. i really appreciate the pace.
http://thereallacc.blogspot.com/
when i spoke today at the ASO meeting i spoke of the "lynching" of sheila d.
i told the LACC student government that to put a woman of color on trial in
2010 is a waste of time.
they are conducting themselves like the salem witch trial or mcarthy era red
scare.
those of us with our eye on the future know that transparency in all things
will be the norm for the future generation.
that a woman of color could have her character impugned by a power bloc of
men, bent on wasting school resources on enacting their petty power display
and vengeance, is actionable.
that the administration enables this monkey court to conduct its sexist and
racist hate campaign, and squander student trust, is but another failure in a
long list of failures.
i, mary eng, founder of the LACC Equality Coalition, do not endorse the
sexist and racist action of the ASO.
that Joseph Tolle, ASO VP for finance, screamed at me under the voting tent
today when i told him not to touch me, will be written up tomorrow in cristy
passman's office.
after i spoke against the divisiveness on campus twice in the opening forum,
he came up to me and wrapped his arm around me. i looked at his hand on
my arm and said, "i don't know who you are. who are you?"
i proceeded to get his name and email and his expression of confidence.
he came to me during the recess and tried to put his hand on me twice as he
explained why sheila should be impeached.
he then screamed at me that i touched him and there was a double standard.
this is completely untrue, as i hadn't touched him.
i couldn't believe he would scream at me in public.
about ten people were present.
i can't believe he is a student government representative.
earic peters clarified the heirarchy of the grievance procedure, and let me
know that cristy passman is the appropriate place to discuss my assertion
that the use of the words in class "show your tits" twice and then "tits and
ass" shouted, constitute an unfair hostile atmosphere for women to pursue
their education in peace.
as for scott clapson who told me i should not use the word "lynch,"
i said to him, yes it is a strong word. it conveys racism. it conveys unfairness.
he said he would get a cease and desist letter to make me take them off the
blog.
i told him i already have a takedown letter from eric kim (on intellectual
property grounds).
the funny thing about alleging sexism, is that sometimes sexist people are
moreover misanthropist.
so it gets fuzzy sometimes when the hatred gets doled out 60% women/40%
to men, etc.
as etymology was sighted by the professor himself, the origin of the word
"fasces" from the latin for the sticks of power might be helpful.
they shouldn't try to silence me, but get to the root of the problem, and head
off these lawsuits which really waste the school budget.
meanwhile they are crucifying sheila for an old school copy machine going
haywire, citing wasted paper as fiscal irresponsibility, i wonder . . .
that another grown man would raise his voice at me at LACC, means i am
enduring psychological abuse as a result of my attempting to finish up my
paralegal classes at LACC.
i am not intimidated easily, but i do see the negative effects of this eating my
soul.
i am really happy to have met jay cortez's campaign manager jaden ledkins
who shares my enthusiasm for technology and the acceleration of IT power to
facilitate learning.
we here, are a part of the digital divide.
i asked ASO to get behind bambusering the next ASO meeting which will be
another stoning of sheila dharod.
it should be on the internet how mean and vicious and petty the proceedings
are.
plan to upload my quicktime footage later and broadcast audio tonight.

ASO meeting quite a laugh.
making footage on quicktime.
mad IT blocks a bambuser.com stream.
its edu-tainmant!
but still so, i'd rather have fake sympathy than none at all!
christy passman this morning tried to ask if i meant for her to drop
the case.
by all means no!
and then scourged me for sending it to sacramento, because now
they are after her for an investigation.
of course.
i demurely said, oh its nice to know how the bureaucracy works.
she said she'd prefer if i'd not do that that.
if the school was a hate free zone with a proactive stance against
discrimination and pettiness and verbal hostilities and racism,
christie passman wouldn't have sacramento breathing down her
neck.
i have a vision of every classroom with a placard reading "hate free
zone" and numbers and emails for violations of an equal learning
atmosphere, and citations to the fed and state code providing for
equality in education.
citing the civil rights acts.
and so if teachers said offensive things, it would be against a
backdrop of complete information disclosure, a grievance process
plain to see, and the laws offended clearly on record.
and then would the students have the guts to stand up for
themselves?
or enough literacy to read the placard?
a brilliant law student mentioned that when the teacher hit the
student over the head with the student's project proposal, that
could constitute assault, and the student could file it.
wow, good point.
i told sheila she should report the ASO haters to christie for
discrimination based on gender and ethnicity.
the male dominant types have totally taken over the legal
association as well, rendering it a bombastic place for men with
big voices and big egos to boom at eachother.
when one coyly asked if i wanted to type minutes, i thought how
funny,
here are all these guys looking for a big ego boost shouting a big
storm asking me to type it down when they've nothing to say.
ah to be relegated to secretarial role!
i have not returned.
silliness!!!!

a female cop told me there is harassment on the force but that's why you have to make reports.
so when you tell people you were raped people often twist it against you, like you are inferior or
damaged.
they complain about the extra effort.
i used to know this guy christian gunther from seattle who screamed slut and whore at women
and claimed that rape gave women too many problems.
i wondered why he thought shouting at them would help.
he was one of those eco-er than thou liberal progressive misogynists, east coast style.
so no matter how smart you were, he'd try to shred you to ribbons with a bunch of epithets.
all his friends thought he was . . .
so anyway, in light of the why i do not want to be talked to like this is a crackhouse in hell and
not a federally funded institution of higher learning theme . . .
the anxiety is so powerful. could you respect what effort it took to get here, and put these bad
memories to rest, so we can move on with our lives.
why do you want to keep us down with unequal words and cruelty to women?
are you afraid of us?
did someone hurt you too?
maybe you are really nice guys, but it really hurts a lot.
you can't unring a bell. i know who you are. i know what you said.
i hope you will never say it again. but i can't forget the disrespect you have shown us.
one of my heroes stood up to his school for protecting abusers at his school.
it happens to men too.
read about human rights lawyer karen parker's crusade against war rape
on
http://rapeisneverokay.blogspot.com/
so plus being raped twice, i was beaten savagely once by an upper crust guy max schuster who
screamed epithets the whole time.
his first line of attack was to destroy my glasses and then attack me.
when he was stomping on my skull with his foot, i realized oh my gosh he is really stomping on
my head!!!
i heard teacher called me out as the person who could have benefitted most
from his gendered language speech exercise.
i felt that being absent would allow him to diffuse his anger in safety, far from
my observation.
in speaking to scott clapson today, i realize nothing.
scott wants me to go to school early to check in.
re: the dentist: i would rather listen to drills drilling on my face than come to
class today.
scott will write a letter of defense for teach first. i told it him think its
awesome, that i wanted to spark a discussion.
all the things i said in my email already, scott thinks i should say in person.
but scott doesn't understand what its like to be a woman and deal with all
this hate all our whole lives.
i turned in my paperwork to christie passman's office today.
despite knowing she will do little, a little is better than nothing.
i can't imagine being a grown man called into a grown woman's office for
shouting "tits and ass" at another grown woman.
it sounds surreal.
so roll call.
meeting with earic peters soon.
sheila and gene fernandez helped me file a time request to speak at the next
ASO meeting about equality and harassment.
andrea bari told me lewis was screaming at a student outside the cafe, the
adult student being stephen stapleton who was requesting a list pertaining to
the veteran's student group.
andrea was shocked to see lewis in the face of a student raising his voice.
the last time i went to the legal association it was a big time waste complete
with polystyrene cups and a disgusting meaty pizza party and a muti-level
marketing speaker, who while being a nice person, had no legal info per se,
other than suggesting we buy a monthly prepaid legal service. a good idea.
so when the clubs become so thick with their own bureaucracy i wonder why
it is they don't listen to some good ideas.
but they are just kids too!!!!
i heard lanzer has had students quit his class bc he keeps asking them out.
two different names came up.
i actually have nothing against teachers dating adult students.
but if its not mutual, and class is in session, its pretty creepy to make people
feel so uncomfortable.
i guess the sad thing about class, is that the whole political imapct of CEDAW
and LAPD rape kit DNA evidence human rights failure, would make such a
better class than tits and tits and tits and ass.
and that my grants and loans make me a bit of a financial prisoner to this
fake school swindle.
i know LACC is in a sense a bit of a dead end job.
i loved my property law test and real estate law test.
plus i filed my labor law reports to both sacramento and LA offices of DLSE.
that's a separate crusade, the sexual harassment at work.
and then christy passman will walk in on my excellent memo under her door
tomorrow.
i think i should make copies of my complaints and scan them or pass them
around.
i actually want to carry the blank complaint forms with me, so every time
people tell me about their harassment, i can hook them up with the do-
nothing bureaucracy so they can feel really depressed.
i remember the hope i felt when i thought that somebody would say, "i am so
sorry. this will never happen again. we will do everything in our power to
protect your civil rights and punish the offenders."
the amazing guy at the cafe says i should take it to the LA TIMES.
what a great idea.

he really gave me good advice about speaking with people in person, keeping
the emails concise, and for making appointments.
and then christie passman wowed me with her charming diplomacy and
career advice, hoping to persuade me not to file formal complaints, to save
the paperwork, and time drain.
nice try.
eckford will try to clean up his department, and because i am filing a formal
complaint, christie will have to have a little talk with the "tits and ass"
professor as well.
i really needed the experience of talking to all these wise people today.
christie gave me advice about law school, and wendell encourages me to
write, or be a public speaker for political causes.
it was really flattering.
he told me what a rough time his friend had as one of the only four women in
the UCLA anthropology department, where the prevailing vibe was "old boys
club." wendell also confirmed that he has heard that the law professors are
barbarians.
so it gets around.
christie passman says she has heard complaints around campus about the
quality in the law department.
she didn't seem to care about women being called "cheesecake" or having
their weight gain mocked in property law.
that is getting a formal complaint as well.
i love duffy, and he's a great teacher, but want to school him on why it is not
still 1966.
the only trouble is, i have to reschedule my real estate law test, and go to the
dentist tomorrow again.
this stuff is important, more important than grades.

What is this professor doing that is absurd towards women? Find out if
anyone else in your class feels the same way and we can build a case
towards your cause. Without empirical evidence or a witness it will be
very hard for you to complain about this professor.

i told him what bothers me most is how stuck in the past all these comments
are. that if anyone actually had a good relationship with women or with
bodies in general, there would be no need to sensationalize stuff along the
judeochristian repression/taboo fault line. it is really a childish dichotomy.
any of the things we pretend to care about would do better to have a complete
coalition of all voices, including women, transgendered and people of all
backgrounds.
if the white hetero privilege is not renounced, the benefits conferred will give
poison to the message.
the failure to disavow the power benefit of being raised white and male and
hetero in this society, puts one on the side of the aggressors.
as my teacher shouted "tits and ass" over me, i felt pity, that someone with so
many good ideas would think he could afford to alienate women, and youth,
and equality minded people.
and that he equates this with freedom.
when i really want to talk about CEDAW, war rape, LAPD rape kit backlog,
human trafficking, the linguistics of marginalization, pink collar ghettos,
sexism in academia, sexism in religion, homophobia, sexism in marriage.
i told a couple friends about teacher's idea that transgendered people validate
real men's real identity, and show real women how to be real women, a gross
abstraction uttered during our Paris is Burning discussion.
i attempted to clear this up, and was told, "we don't want to wig anybody out
here," which was a way of trying to discredit what i had to say about Judith
Butler's Gender Trouble, and gender spectrums.
the prevailing norm that there is such a a thing as a real man, and the
utiliritarian look at transgenderism as some kind of hetero-reifyer, is crass to
me.
and that margaret thatcher is a man, and any woman of power and
confidence will be attacked for her physique and femininity, in the class
room, is so offensive to me.
pam cash said these comments would get you fired at UCSD.
can you imagine hearing slut whore and tits and ass in class.
if i were the profs i'd be ashamed to show face.
my father was far more eloquent and i never had to be around that
kind of talk except maybe in . . .
and a little in bars but i try to avoid them.
mark holladay said, well you are the one who wanted to go back to
school.
i told him it was more like eldercare with all these varying
levels of out of touchness.
hope yr doing great and that you can get a good laugh over what
clowns these profs are.
Hi Mary,
I don't know what to say exactly, but I do wish you well. Not having been there or, after
reading the blog, having not seen much evidence either way, it would be a mistake for me to
judge one way or the other that your profs have or have not spoken or acted disrespectfully (or
more or less). Nor am I an expert in such things. In any case, their intent, as well as the
context within which "crude" language was used, is obviously very important, and that context
and intent I have almost no access to. And when legal accusations turn up, everyone gets
understandably defensive and, often, less reasonable and flexible and friendly. But obviously
you've been stung by something, and I'm sorry for that. Being stung by words is no fun
whatsoever. So I am simply sending you my best wishes.
I hope you can build bridges with your efforts. And amidst such stresses, I hope you can find
time to exercise, eat well, and relax with friends.
Best,
Scott

LACC district counsel eric kim says i should take down my expose blog.
professors who specifically have a weird way about women in the classroom:

lewis: hooker, topless dancing assignment, homophobia, harasses women of color
bartelt: "tits and ass" shouted at student, jokes about margaret thatcher being a man and "show your

also do you know a catholic lawyer or law group that would consider a case v.
LACC district for protecting abusive speech contrary to my spiritual beliefs,
or as harassment?
i was raised catholic and am enrolled in the paralegal dept. where multiple
professors enforce a degrading atmosphere.
other students from other departments will confirm the pervasiveness of this
tax-funded abuse.
the lopez case settled recently re: a professor calling a student a bastard.
http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/professor_calls_student_fascist
_bastard_stops_speech_in_favor_of_traditional_marriage/
also if you knew what i went thru in my other classes you might see the
cumulative nature of this.
in my other classes
i have heard professor rant on and on about hookers, prostitutes, bring
films in with the word whore, the n-word, words i don't even know.
another prof talks about students making more money on the streets as a
slut than in the legal field etc.
actually many of my friends have had a lot of trouble with profs in many
depts. regarding racism, sexism, etc.
i am not into absolutist definitions of words and meanings and yes indeed
did revisit the etymology.
because i was so lucky to have a very elegant and graceful father and go to
nice schools before, i find the utilization of such language out of step with
what i prefer, as well as out of step with the lectures i follow by
correspondence online.
i think a high level of care should be taken to respect all students and err on
the side of respect.
the fact that the school has to pay up for a prof calling a student a "bastard"
is evidence of how delicately students must be treated. i in no way support
the homophobic rant of the student either.
but the fact that teachers words can be very expensive, should alert all profs
to the degree of respect and care they should show the school budget, if not
the actual students.
as words evolve and change meanings, i think that is where a concept of
consent might play in.
a word with a very innocent meaning can change and vice-versa, for which
culture.
if i tell you it makes me uncomfortable, might you not say, oh i'm so sorry,
let's think of a different way to express this?
it is the force of your personality which i most admire, and which gives me
courage. if it feels overwhelming, i think it is because we, as students are
trained to be passive, and mild mannered.
i'm sorry i feel that the constant drip of verbal cruelty to women in culture
in general is fascistic, but overall it is so culturally endemic to be quite
annoying.
i think the presumption that we should accept all the language blindly is the
last thing you'd want . . . a bunch of sheep for students?
that doesn't sound any fun.
i am sorry if any of the words i used, offended you as well.
as surely i could have rephrased them to more accurately say what i meant.
most of all all i mean to say is that i subjectively feel overall, uncomfortable,
with how women are treated, linguistically, civically, etc in this world.
and reminders of the disparity i feel can reinforce the status quo. i think the
class shouldn't align itself with pop-culture language and should try to find
a more enlightened level of respect.
thanks for listening, and for being so thought-provoking, and for being such
a great teacher, overall my second fave of all time, next to idit dobbs-
weinstein who had to sue my old sexistalma mater to keep her job.
you guys are the best!

Mary,
With all due respect, you are completely out of line. In no way can my class be described as "vulgar and antiquated." I
take offense at this gross misrepresentation. Before you levy such a charge against me, I strongly suggest you think hard
about what you are saying. You will see that you have no case.
I take pedagogy seriously. I take accusations like this seriously. In no way do i think this a laughing matter.
Finally, before you make a mountain out of a mole-hill, perhaps you need to revisit the entomology of the word "tit." It
derives from teat, meaning nipple, and can be pronounced as tit or teet. Both men and women have them, as do the cows on
the farm on which I grew up.
I also do not appreciate your calling me a fascist. These are serious charges/accusations and I will not stand by and let a
student throw such accusations my way - especially when they are completely unwarranted. I always welcome questions
and discussion. In fact, I go out of my way to facilitate that.
I tried to accommodate you and your desire to video my lectures. However, these base-less accusations have left me with no
choice but to forbid all filming and taping of my lectures, as my academic freedom is now at stake. I will make a formal
announcement in class next week.
-Dr. Bartelt

too bad the bookstore is closing early due to the budget crisis. 3pm.
ridiculous. sad.
but hey all the free books that got trashed after the book sale are amazing.
i found hannah arendt eichman in jerusalem

i am glad about getting respect from duffy. sort of. duffy is the best teacher
ever despite endorsing waterboarding in guantanamo. no kidding.
found that out last term.
it was off the record as class wound down.
it was the perfect time for me to tell him about the foulness in the legal dept.
because even if he does endorse waterboarding, he is appalled by a lack of
professionalism, and has too much pride to let the craft steer too far off
course for long.
his tell tale jibe at the dilution of quality in the department regarding
spoon-feeding etc has not gone unnoticed.
i will honestly miss lanzer, despite resenting his sexist statements prior. he is
so dry and acerbic, and sarcastic. its dark and funny. and the sexist part is so
textbook 1950's. he always reminded me of richard burton in who's afraid
of virginia woolf. i mean that as a compliment.
and as for vargas's legal writing, he's teaching it like we are in kindergarten,
so my brain completely shuts off, due to the massive level of condescention.
his family law is more fun, more theoretical, and i don't like boring grammar
lessons.
hello i read finnegan's wake already!
six hours of his tedious approach is more than i can take.
three hours will be enough.
about something interesting.
the family.
especially after he really goofed it by screening such a sexist film a year ago.
just so i can know he has no taste, imagination, or respect for women.
can't believe he thought i'd want to go to class to hear every trashy sexist
epithet in the book and watch a bad movie.
pure laziness and lack of imagination.
he would not imagine how smart we are and how much respect we deserve or
crave.
he's still a nice guy though, with nice power points, nice outlines, etc.
and he says the LSAT is hard.
hmm.

now he finally gets what i am saying about embedding video in the blog.
i told him we can do the same for the IP club if we could get to an unblocked
signal.
why does LACC hate tech so much?
FISA.
no that's not it.
its so easy.
i wish i could broadcast duffy, he's so great!!!! in property law---back to my
class notes---here

making mp3s
got a little testy over the concern for my safety leaving lawyers guild last
night.
i was like yes, i have been raped, strangled, car-jacked, robbed.
no big deal.
read about it here:
http://rapeisneverokay.blogspot.com/
the poverty/environmentalism which sees my tough self home by bus or
train, means i feel sorry for the car people.
that they have to be so condescending, when actually i feel sorry for them,
that they never get any exercise, and are scared to walk to the bus stop.
oh and my friend is dropping his class with the majorly sexist law prof. he
can't take it anymore.
why?
why does the prof have a job?
why does he terrorize innocent minds?
why does admin protect it and not demand more?
thinking of shelley's writing the necessity of atheism and getting kicked out
of oxford in consequence, and his young death.
funny that writing can be so dangerous.
but is it?
i think of blogs as ghettos for the disenfranchised educationally.
if i'd gotten a stupid PHD by now i could have had one of those cush do-
nothing jobs, at least at LACC or utah state or somewhere boring.
and have a little money, and drink coffee, and go to school to call kids a
bunch of epithets my racist sexist parents/teachers taught me.
and get paid for it.
get the school sued for it.
piss off a bunch of people.
reinforce the status quo.
go way hoi polloi.
make them laugh like LACC is the comedy store and i'm michael richards.
yeah.
hey but wait a minute, my parents were enlightened people . . . and i don't
watch TV . . . and when lame hipsters try to rub their creepy sexist language
off on me, i tell them to never call me again.
i really mean it.
i am so over all this creepiness.
except i'm bought off by hope for a degree, a good class, a crystal of
information, a shred of respect, a discussion, a learning experience, a job, a
future, a pell grant, a loan.
love my classes!!!!!
sheila and i went to the lawyers guild last night and had a blast learning
about the budget crisis and protest arrests and police involvement.
ms. matranga in OSS really tried to put out my passion over disability rights.
all this tech stuff is confusing i know!!!!
equality stuff!
out of the stone ages stuff!!!
gene little said that some students allege racism when they get bad grades.
cool thing about me is i don't give a flip about grades!!!!!
http://duffysrealestatelacc.blogspot.com/
more blogs
two more class blogs for educational purposes---are you anti-education or
anti-functionality of internet web notetaking?
are you aware of the digital components of all the best schools, stanford,
harvard, LSE etc?
do you realize i am doing this for free bc i really care about education and
learning and disability rights?
this is for our extracurricular IP club that deals with paralegal club dept
deficits.
http://unintellectualproperty.blogspot.com/
why is LACC anti-tech?
do you realize this could be a paid IT job of the future---to build archives of
the teachers who are actually good?
duffy in law and bartelt in anthropology have such worthwhile classes, and
they are both supportive and intrigued.
i really appreciate your attention, and think it is very important for you to
make such requests, for your records, visavis old fashioned IP norms.
if they want to be crass and foul and sexist, maybe they need a blog, and then
someone with some skill and decency could have a job, and we could retire
the offending profs and their enabling admin protectors.
so why don't you send christie passman a takedown notice too, and tell her to
clean up the sloppy lazy misogynistic and racist language and harassment
that permeates many departments.
why don't you guys get proactive?
to protect the taxpayer, protect the students, and to protect yourselves.
i think the brilliant fink lawyer and i had some ideological disparities, or
rather, lucrative disparities. while being an outstanding pioneer on sexual
harassment law, this might not be a quick kill. we do have to work within the
prevailing idiocracy which prefers egregious harassment.
i love talking to these honored elders. i'm sorry if i implied they are out of
touch or complacent.
i'm not going to be around much longer anyway.
i'm doing it for the people.
even a lot of guys are sick of sexist backward professors.
i'm not kidding.
young guys are so amazing sometimes.
they just are so much more fair.
i love it!!!!
so the BS radar is in place, and thanks for reading!!!!
hopefully everything will be so perfect from now on, that we can whitewash
history!!!!! pretend that women were never shut out of academia, pretend
they don't make 60-70% of the white male dollar. Pretend LAPD prosecutes
rape, and doesn't just ignore the DNA evidence. we can pretend that women
are not harassed at work or the home too.
the huge waste of time, of taking a class, and then showing up to be verbally
abused, and condescended to . . . well . . .
blogs are free!!!!!
therapy!!!!!
but what eric kim doesn't get about the algebra blogspot is that i have the
support of disability services which was so excited to see the american sign
language videoed via free bambuser.com. i am working as a volunteer to
develop alternative tutorial methods.
and build archives.
so is office of legal counsel trying to say they really want dyslexic people and
deaf people to not have learning resources?
that seems pretty anti-education to me.
p.s. its not like i think lacc district would actually sue me, although it would
be totally funny.
sue me for #1 getting harassed and #2 complaining. that would be so bogus.
they need to learn how the internet works.
its not my job to contain damage. its their problem. its their little PR
nightmare and all the more reason they should get their professors into
shape.
so they don't get bad reviews on yelp or ratemyproffs or blogs dah!
Hello Ms. Eng:
I hope you were able to get in touch with Cristy Passman, Compliance Officer at LACC or Gene Little, the
District's Director of Diversity Programs, after our conversation.
Also, the Los Angeles Community College District (the "District") requests that you change the name of your
blog(s), (i.e., "thereallacc.blogspot.com," "laccalgebra.blogspot.com") so that "lacc" is not incorporated into the
name. Under the California Education Code, the college names and abbreviations of those names are the
property of the District, and cannot, without permission of the District, be used to designate any business, social,
political, religious, or other organization. Of course, you are certainly free to comment about LACC within the
body of the blog. Thank you.
Eric Kim, Assistant General Counsel
and then my anthropology teacher ties the loose knots of what was the frayed
odds and ends of philosophy i pretended to care for as a child. and i am
almost sure he is the best teacher ever, but maybe that is because i agree with
him on so many things. important things regarding racism and the
environment. so while my tuition is free, my rent is not, and i am here
collecting debt and art, and reading this
http://digitallibrary.usc.edu/search/controller/view/usctheses-m220.html
if brian bartelt sticks around LACC you should really take his class. no
matter what your major or interest, we are all humans. it is quite stunning.
and the field so profound.
while some professors could dull something to the excitement level of a
dripping faucet, some have a gift for enthusiasm.
so i don't really despise LACC at all.
i just am trying to avoid bad energy, even including classroom bad energy.
the miracles of abstract thought and language are themselves magnificent.
but that is no excuse for sloppiness, sexism, and racism. especially tax-
funded.
but i think it is important to note that we are going to these old systems for
old information, given in old formats.
so when they hand you a floppy disk, just say thank you and throw it over
your shoulder into the infinities of ewaste.
when and if i leave, i will bask in the joys of tuitioned classes, or new loans,
inconceivable loans. i pray, i hope edu can go on for ever. but i will have
itunes U and books, and text to speech, and the wisdom of anyone, anywhere.
and that proff so and so brings a sexist tone etc, is just another drop in the
bucket of the sorrows of american misogyny.
i am so sorry to exist, and i do not prefer to be around hater-people. i think
its lousy they can get paid to spread their hate ideologies. my internet
lectures at good schools, are completely compelling and academic.
professional.
but the human experience, and the joy of speaking in class, questioning, and
the joy of anticipation for class, that is really priceless.
as though there were nothing more we wanted than to be respected in our
minds, to be treated as intellects, separate from the wageslave atmosphere of
so many dead-end jobs.
LACC stop protecting abuse, stop paying settlements for incompetent admin,
recognize the humanity of us . . . and stop protecting abuse.
hope its a great spring break everybody

pam cash! i think you are always right! i think i am going to move to oregon to participate in this
phenomenon. take some enviro policy and try to get into enviro law if i can figure out how to
finance it. if you have a scholarship foundation anytime soon, please help! so if i can't live my
facetious edu dreams, then i will become one of those eco-hippie types, full time. but what is
messed up about LA most of all is the air. i can feel it destroying my body, the lack of oxygen and
rain. the smog takes 20 points off my IQ which fortunately i can spare, but really sometimes i
want them back.
i think my smog adaptiveness fails me because i grew up around oxygen. my smog gills are just
weak. they didn't learn how to convert thick carbon monoxide and airborne particulate into
powerful ideas like, pop culture. i am stuck. my brain is hungry. i have to go.
even if oregon is a bunch of arm-chair activists and overeducated broke hippies, i really can't
sacrifice my health much longer for life in this creepy town full of backward city planning, anti-
recycling ethos, foul water, foul air, and narcissistic luddites. if you have any ideas feel free to
write me. my anthro teacher set us up for this fun 8 week series at LACC sustainability with
giovanna imbesi. of course she has copyright password protected her little workbook, because
you dont want too many people to catch on, you know, it is important to keep it secret and elite
and ego-based!!! but overall it is a rad class and i can't wait to present. and of course you know,
LACC is not neo-richhippy melananin deficient trustafarian, by any means. we are talking a rad
earth week, community garden etc.
of course admin is oblivious about discrimination and earth-hating policies.
they are so one-foot-in-the-grave boomer apathetic about everything, except their stupid
paychecks.
i think you are profound. what i want to know is that if that organic food is soaked in acid rain &
airborne carcinogens, and irrigated with petrochemical, pharmaceutical laced water . . . how
organic is it?
and hey greenwash is what they call this magic wand eco-narcissism that is self-deceptive.
or in law there is a whole new wave of litigation contra the grand greenwash deception, which
uses green brand identity to trick well meaning consumers.
fiji and windex are among the sued . . . that's kind of cool isn't it . . .
in response to amazing
pam cash's
http://pamcash.livejournal.com/909968.html:
"I got an email from a place called Common Circle Education in Berkeley, Ca about a
class they devised called Urban Permaculture Design.
This excited me greatly. It'd been what I'd been clamboring for in my head. I envisioned
Downtown having gorgeous rooftop gardens, solar panels, local economies that could
increase the standard of living for a lot of my neighbors and peers. Local production,
local commerce, all within our deliciously dense jungle. What I found on the site looked
extremely disappointing. Not only did it look like the word "Urban" was only thrown in
the title to make it sound cool (I didn't see one photo of an even slightly urban
situation!), but it went on to talk about green building, etc...
now, I'm no architect, nor am I a surveyor, nor am I an environmental analyst, but I'm
pretty sure that tearing down the old buildings here and building a nice new Woodsy
lookin' palace for rich white people would use MORE RESOURCES than occupying an
old one and restoring it and maybe even convert it to using nice Sun-energy.
They talk about how exciting it will be to learn about using cool natural irrigation
systems. I know I'm excited to gather and harvest the one week of rain we get here in
SoCal. Conveniently, the classes are in NorCal or Oregan where nobody has to worry
about such bothersome dryness. Maybe they would tell us all to move out to their
suburban havens, which surely wouldn't be havens anymore once they became dense
and other non-agricultural economies moved in.
The thing is I WANT to do this permaculture stuff, I want to live sustainably and I want to
create awesome communities. But can the solution be that you're either A) an agrarian,
or B) a magically rich person in some undisclosed location who buys the stuff but
doesn't really factor into the big picture? My guess is that they have their heads so far
up their idealistic asses that they have disdain for any city dweller, especially us vile
and perverted Angelinos. I watched their little video. "People live in cities... they're out
of touch with nature." The same could be said with them and the reality of what is
actually happening in the world and the type of change we really need.
So I wrote a letter. I copied it to paste here but then uncopied it to copy the link so now
it's gone. It was through their site, not my gmail, so I can't go back and get it. Lost. But it
basically talks about that, and about how people who are privileged enough to afford
their class have a responsibility (in my opinion) to make it useful to people in lower
socio-economic classes. For example, if I learn how to be an organic farmer and run
away to live on a little commune, I help the world by making them food, but I run away
from the huge problem of all the homeless people in LA, and all the other myriad
problems here. We need solutions for our communities, not solutions that involve
running off to a modern hut in Hawaii. I don't want to save the world by living in a fringe
dream where I can ignore the huge problems that matter to all kinds of people, not just
neo hippy people.
So they haven't written back, but I've received an automated response encouraging me
to be their facebook friend.
I'm not just trying to pick on them. I want them to offer a class that can be useful to me,
not a judgemental bullshit class about yoga in a forest. I want to be a part of the
solution. Maybe a big part! But I also want to listen to metal shows on the weekends,
wear fancy clothes and have martinis, go to perverted clubs and dance to really loud
music, and make out with strangers. Unless you, the reader, are my parents, in which
case I'd like to stay home and read books during my free time.
I'd encourage the HUGE readership of my blog to t ake a look at the site and tell me your
opinion.
You can also check out the youtube video that infuriated me.
Conclusion: I want to help the world too. I just want to do it in a city. Because I think
rural living is crap, and wastes a lotmore energy than it thinks it wastes. I don't want to
have my own organic farm! But I love organic farmers. Thank you for making my
food.<3"

email response this morning re the sexual harassment legal theory of the
future and the sexist version of Jim Crow, where we are told it's equal and
supposed to believe it, but it is clearly not.
i will read the san bern case and have already read a
lot on the issue, with similar effect as you describe.
quite aware.
my quest for litigatory activism is defiant of the norms
which sanction this constant belligerent atmospheric
attack on women and their integrity in the workplace and
school.
I will have to study these e-mails. However you should read Cohen v. San Bernadino. Merely because a
Professor says something non PC (even something some perceive as sexist or racist) doesn't mean he
has violated Title IX or Title VI. You need to focus on the specific statements and the context they were
made.
another thing i wanted to understand was that how harassment law for the
workplace and in schools coalesce. as the schools have federal laws to follow,
and the state labor law i know pretty well, and then hey, what about
respondeat superior ? that means the bosses are responsible for the
mistakes of the workers. hmmmm.
the poor collegian acts like printed media matters. cute, isn't it?

how many more islamic students have been told they don't belong here
because of the way they dress?
that story was straight from christy passman's mouth.
it's not funny.
who was in the class where the professor constantly makes masturbation
references?
or prostitution references?
who has been ridiculed as mexican, sl*t, wh*re, the n--- word an okay class
room iteration, i am not kidding, with professors who speak about prostitutes
and "hookers" excessively, who say stupid woman, dumb woman,
cheesecake . . .
who obviously aren't up-to-date on international law or human trafficking
issues either . . .
and you know what? i am more liberal than you'd ever imagine.
private lives are private.
but when the class content is destroyed by verbal excesses from professors
with no super-ego supervision or sense of modernity . . . respect, or respect to
the school and taxpayer . . .
we all suffer.
but its becoming clear to me that admin are the biggest comedians at the
club.
but hello!!!!!!
it's the future!
"it's the future, get down!" as intone my favorite political rappers Das Racist.
on youtube you can watch them talk about being inspired by the kid who
called out about some deranged racist ideologue on TV, "that's racist!" where
normally the conditioned adult response would be to politely say, "that's
offensive."
but that they are tired of watering it down.
why dilute it?
its racist, sexist, whatever, why not just say it?!
http://www.myspace.com/dasracist
as for the professors, i just thought they were trying to get fired . . .
retired . . .
i don't blame them . . .
i'm sorry they didn't get retired so they can relax a little, and watch more TV
and drink more scotch . . .
i'm sorry they still think they should be teaching.
and some of them are doing better, now that i complained.
people come tell me stuff. why? why don't they complain to everybody like i
did?
or maybe they complain like i did, and are treated dismissively like i was.
that's scary.
CEDAW.
read about it.
what other departments allow incompetence so extreme it just has lawsuit
written all over in flashing neon?
or saying i don't get why you care, usually people only care when they have
something at stake.
like money?
like dignity?
like community?
like respect?
like equality?
like professionalism?
like education?
if you are a taxpayer, i hope you are happy to know you fund discrimination
at LACC.
like the UCLA taser case, we need to get the lawyer's guild on this.
i saw racist police brutality at age seven, and in 2007 at macarthur park.
hey taxpayer, you just got billed a huge settlements to the victims of the
LAPD macarthur park brutality extravaganza.
cheers!
my mother kicked a KKK wizard out of her veteran's administration
emergency room, because she's tough like that.
there is a rumor that my grandmother was an honorary black panther. both
my grandmothers helped immigrants with literacy and activism.
then in 2005, my amazing brother gabriel eng, threw a big africa art, music,
and sustainability festival.
the young black panthers spoke.
the most valuable thing i remember were the words, "renounce your white
skin privilege."
then when the stupid CIA money came it all went to enron, make no mistake.
i was hoping to tell grand-dad i needed to get back to school, because i was
too smart to deal with all the stupid stuff in real life.
instead though, he died, and i got left out.
that's not too important.
but now that i've finally made it back to school, after hanging out in the
extremes of impovrished america to faux-ivy league with fullbright scholars
etc. i really got to say that my standards are high because i allow them to be.
old letter:
flash back to two days ago (and a year ago when this stupid story started---
maybe i'll repub the old emails too---or yelp them---e-evidence them out into
the cosmos and collective BSometer consciousness or Yelp them and make
LACC pay to remove them from top search query, i love YELP's monetization
of internet libel extortion scheme---its brilliant!!!! oh yeah but they're being
sued too . . .)
i wrote
to the LACC ombudsman for discrimination,
you know who,
i deeply apologize for differing in opinion re:the handling of the "sl*t" case
(encompassing a whole series of incidents)
while not quid pro quo
it was rather atmospheric
it was not in any way to disparage your job, that i semi-publicly draw
attention to this scandal, but for the good of all.
i am glad the outcome with anonymous student turned out well in your
estimation. thanks for the update.
i spoke to her and find it dissatisfactory that she must retake the class with
the verbally offensive sexistly and particularly seemingly racially
discriminatory professor as well, based on what i know of the case.
there is a meeting at 3pm tuesday with bartelt matranga flores eckford and

i also apologize for my impatience with ASO, because there is such a wealth
of human potential here.
re: the islamophobic comments which may or may not have been faculty
originating, but were (according to you) staff-originating. i did not seek to
misrepresent.
i find that the notion of best practices business management would have all
staff clearly documented as to harassment training.
please accept my apology. i respect you so much! i need your help too and
the wealth of your legal knowledge!
