SYLLABUS 2016-2017
Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
Hello! My name is Trevor Timmerberg. I will be your childs English Language Arts
teacher this year. I am very excited to embark on this educational voyage together. By the
end of the year, I hope they will love learning as much as I love teaching!
All of my rules and procedures fall into one or more of the following four areas:

Respect We all need to respect each other and ourselves. We also need to
respect the property of others, as well as our own property.
Responsibility We need to carry out all of our responsibilities to the best of our
abilities. We need to come to class prepared everyday and work from BELL to
BELL.
Accountability As teachers, students, and citizens we will always be
accountable for our actions. It is just as important to learn this skill as it is to learn
anything else within the classroom.
Do Your Best - We need to be proud of our work and always strive to do our very
best. Put your BEST foot forward everyday!
Adhere to school dress code We must always be in dress code. Remember to
wear the appropriate colored shirt (navy blue or white) and pants (tan/khaki or
navy, solid colors only). (see dress code in agenda for more info)

The team consequences that will be enforced are as follows:


1st Offense/minor offense Verbal warning from teacher and students behavior will be
redirected.
2nd Offense Lunch Detention / Call Home / Conference
3rd Offense Lunch Detention / Call Home / Conference
4th Offense Lunch Detention / Call Home / Conference
5th Offense Lunch Detention / Call Home / Conference
6th Offense Off team ISAP, conference with parents

District Grading Policy:


The MTS English Language Arts department is implementing a standards based grading
policy this year. For each of the key focus topics (Standards), learning targets have been
identified. Students must demonstrate some level of learning on every learning target to
pass the course. Scores will be assigned on a 4, 3, 2, 1, 0 basis, based on the students
level of performance on each key focus topic and/or learning target.

Grade Calculation Categories:


20% Student Engagement: examples: participation, group work, class discussion,
notebooks, projects, teacher observation, student reflection or other measures of student
interaction. (must include two or more)
30% Student Progression: examples: Homework, problem solving, class assignments,
quizzes, anecdotal records, student self assessment, or other measures of student progress
(must include two or more)
50% Student Mastery: examples: Test/proficiency assessments, projects, performance
assessments, presentations, or other measures of student mastery (must include two or
more)
