Q1. When we mix the following two streams; one containing 99 wt% air and 1 wt% water at 1
atm and 40 0C at 1000 kg/hr, the other pure water at 1 atm and 20 0C at 20 kg/hr.
a) What is the mass fraction of each component in the product stream?
If the mixing is followed by separation
b) What is the mass flowrate of liquid and vapor?
c) What is the composition of the vapor stream?

Q2 Use Aspen HYSYS to simulate the propylene glycol production process figure 1, including the
reaction and separation processes. Assume a propylene oxide feed stream of 3952 kg/h and a
water feed stream of 4990 kg/h. Produce a final product stream containing 99.5% propylene
glycol. Assume a CSTR with a volume of 8,000 L and the following simplified reaction kinetics

Q1 When two streams are mixed at 200 kPa and 50 0C; one containing oxygen and nitrogen, the
other pure nitrogen. Stream 1 flows at 450 kg/hr and consists of 45 wt% of N 2, whilst stream 2
flows at 380 kg/hr.
a) Determine the overall mass flowrate and composition of the product stream.
b) If another stream of pure oxygen at 200 kPa and 50 0C is added to the mixer at 200 kg/hr,
calculate the mass fraction of both N2 and O2 in the product stream.
