Reynella East College offers a special

focus Sports Academy in a range of
sports including Football, Netball,
Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball and
Rugby. This is designed to cater for
gifted students and those who are
passionate about pursuing a pathway
to elite sport.
Sports are delivered based on student
choice. Students also have the
opportunity to participate in athletics,
golf, softball, badminton, touch rugby,
cricket, lawn bowls, table tennis,
korfball, tennis and hockey.

Candidates are identified for the Sports Academy

during Year 7 transition and are invited to apply
for the Special sports programs from Year 8
with successful entry via an application process.
Students can be identified in any year level for the
following year.

Below is a list of choices available to students at each year level.

Students work with specialist sports teachers, including

staff recognised as elite players and coaches in the sports
industry. Each target sport is designed to fully equip the
student to achieve at a high sporting and academic level and
to prepare them for continued success on their elite pathway
throughout their secondary schooling and at tertiary and
industry level.

Target Sport (1 or 2 semesters):

Semester 1: Netball, Basketball and Rugby
Semester 2: Volleyball, Soccer and Football
HPE (1 or 2 semesters)
Healthy Lifestyle Choices (1 semester only)
Outdoor Education A, Outdoor Education B
(1 or 2 semesters)

Students will get opportunities to:

complete a first aid certificate
undertake work placement
negotiate their specialisation
study and work with others with similar interests and passions
consider studying at University and TAFE
train and play their chosen sport five times a week
participate in field trips to watch high level training sessions
complete a coaching / umpiring qualification
Pathways include elite sports person, sports medicine,
paramedic, physiotherapist, sports psychologist, teacher,
tourism, police, army officer, psychology, coach, fitness
instructor and youth worker.
Students interested in applying for entry into the program
must meet certain criteria and follow the schools application
