Manchester is one of the most representative places in England. Not only that it
has a classic and contemporary style but it shows great technological development. It is
also a city where time stands still since buildings from years ago look like they just have
been recently built. In a few words, you can see culture everywhere. To have a complete
view of what Manchester has to offer its visitors, you should pay attention to the three
most important characteristics: culture, technology and architecture.
Culture is one important feature about Manchester. Although it was initially an
industrial city, British cannot deny Manchester is Britains new cultural capital. It has all
kinds of art galleries and museums, such as the National Gallery, The National Portrait
Gallery or the Victoria and Albert Museum where you can appreciate marvelous
paintings, sculptures, and even costumes exhibitions. The culture of Manchester is also
represented by its history. It is the worlds first industrialized city and is the major centre
of the creative industries.
Manchester is one of the most technological developed cities among Europe. In
Manchester, you can go out every day and find technological events everywhere. It was
the University of Manchester which invented the first stored-program computer.
Despite technological development of the city stalled for many years, the passion for
technology is more alive than ever. Manchester is becoming a European technology
innovation hub challenging other locations such as London, Helsinki and Berlin thanks

to the investment which technology, digital, and media companies have been made in
IT and telecommunications infrastructure in the city.
Manchester is also known for its wonderful architecture. The Architecture of
Manchester is a mix of different styles like Georgian, Roman, Gothic, and more. Its
warehouses, railway viaduct, and canals are reminders of its industrial and commercial
past. Now, some places have been converted for other uses but their external
appearance remains mostly unchanged giving the city a unique style, mixing the new

outside London. The architecture you can appreciate around the city shows that

Manchester has. Its culture is vast and keeps developing. Its technology will be a pioneer
in Europe in a few years. Its buildings are preserved in time, they never go out of fashion.
