Introduction

( computer Network and communications )

Computer Network
A computer network is a system of interconnected computer and peripheral devices. For
example, it may connect computers, printers, scanners and cameras. These interconnected
computing devices can communicate with each other through defined rules of data
communications by using hardware and software. In a network, computer can exchanges and
share information and resources. A computer network may operate on wired connections or
wireless connections.
Communications
Communications is about the transfer of information from a sender, across a distance, to a
receiver. Information and data in the form of codes by using electricity, radio waves or light
to transmit through a physical medium such wire, cable, or even the atmosphere. Information
that is transmitted(sent) can be text, voice, sound, video, graphics and images, or a
combination of all these, which we call multimedia.

Mobile Computing

2.1 Definition
-Mobile Computing is an umbrella term used to describe technologies that
enable people to access network services anyplace, anytime, and
anywhere. Ubiquitous computing and nomadic computing are
synonymous with mobile computing. Information access via a mobile
device is plagued by low available bandwidth, poor connection
maintenance, poor security, and addressing problems. Unlike their wired
counterparts, design of software for mobile devices must consider
resource limitation, battery power and display size. Consequently, new
hardware and software techniques must be developed.

2.2 Specfication, services, frequencies of Mobile Computing

-A personal digital assistant (PDA) is a handheld computer, also known as a

palmtop computer. Newer PDAs also have both color screens and audio
capabilities, enabling them to be used as mobile phones (smart phones),
web browsers, or portable media players. Many PDAs can access the
Internet, intranets or extranets via Wi-Fi, or Wireless Wide-Area Networks
(WWANs). Many PDAs employ touch screen technology.

3.0Internet Technology and Services

3.1 VolP
- Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a general term for a family of
transmission technologies for delivery of voice communications over IP
networks such as the Internet or other packet-switched networks. Other
terms frequently encountered an synonymous with VoIP are IP telephony,
Internet telephony, voice over broadband ( VoBB ), broadband telephone,
and broadband phone. Voice Over Internet Protocol is a telephone service
that uses the Internet as a global telephone network. Broadband Internet
access (cable or DSL) is required, and regular house phones plug into an
analog telephone adapter (ATA) provided by the company or purchased from
a third party.

3.2 BLOG
- A blog (a contraction of the term " we blog") is a type of website, usually
maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions
of events,or other material such as graphics or video. A blog is a lot like a
journal except it is generally intended to be read by others. The topics for
blogs vary greatly; some being about day to day activities and others taking
a more corporate or political slant. There is no defined or widely accepted

format and so blogs range from one liners that the author adds every few
hours to relatively long, well thought out arguments for or against a topic of
interest.

4.0 Types of network

4.1 PAN
-A Personal Area Network (PAN) is a computer network used for
communication among computer devices (including telephones and personal
digital assistants) close to one person. The devices may or may not belong to
the person in question. The reach of a PAN is typically a few meters. PANs
can be used for communication among the personal devices themselves
(intrapersonal communication), or for connecting to a higher level network
and the Internet (an uplink). Personal area networks may be wired with
computer buses such as USB and FireWire. A wireless personal area network
(WPAN) can also be made possible with network technologies such
as IrDA and Bluetooth.

4.2 VPN
-A virtual private network (VPN) is a computer network in which some of the
links between nodes are carried by open connections or virtual circuits in
some larger networks (such as the Internet), as opposed to running across a
single private network. The Link Layer protocols of the virtual network are
said to be tunneled through the transport network. One common application
is to secure communications through the public Internet, but a VPN does not

need to have explicit security features such as authentication or content

encryption

4.3 WLAN
-A Wireless Local Area Network, sometimes referred to as LAWN ( local area
wireless network ) is one in which a mobile user can connect to a local area
network (LAN) through a wireless (radio) connection. The IEEE 802.11 group
of standards specify the technologies for wireless LANs. 802.11 standards
use the Ethernet protocol and CSMA/CA (carrier sense multiple access with
collision avoidance) for path sharing and include an encryption method,
the Wired Equivalent Privacy algorithm. A personal area network.
4.4 WIMAX
- WiMAX, meaning Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is a
telecommunications technology that provides wireless transmission
of data using a variety of transmission modes, from point-to-multipont links
to portable and fully mobile internet access. The technology provides up to 3
Mbit/s broadband speed without the need for cables. The technology is based
on the IEEE 802.16 standard (also called Broadband Wireless Access). The
name "WiMAX" was created by the WiMAX Forum,6.

5.0 Conclusion

*As conclusion, field of computer networks and communication is includingm

obile computing, internet technology and services and various types of netw
ork. Nowadays, mobile computing is widely used because of the function
such a portable computer and it can be brings anywhere. The internet
technology and services in other hand help people around the world

communicate to each other as easy as ABC. Various types of network may

give opportunity to the users to choose the best network to be used.
