Introduction
This practice of White Heruka is a method for receiving
the blessing of the four empowerments you received at
the time of taking the empowerment from your Guru. It
is also a method for blessing and transforming the longlife substances that are used as a basis for receiving those
four empowerments.
To be qualified to be able to do this sadhana you must
have not only received the empowerment but have
completed the Action Permitting Retreat of this Deity.
Arrange the substances as explained in the introduction
below; the life pills can be made of any edible substance.

Herein lies an explanation on the method for


accomplishing and enjoying life pills and so forth
in dependence upon White Heruka entitled:
Taking the Essence of Immortality.
Namo Chakrasamvaraya
Here is the method, as was explained by Jetsun Manjushri
directly to The King of the Dharma - Tsongkhapa the Great for
accomplishing and enjoying life pills and so forth in dependence
upon White Heruka.
In a clean place, arrange the life-pills before oneself in the center
of a white support, to the right of that the life-water, to the left,
life-alcohol. In this manner, arrange the practice materials. As
the preliminary, accomplish the self-generation and recitation
using Je Lama [Tsongkhapas] sadhana or something similar.
Cleanse the basis of accomplishment with:
OM KHANDAROHI HUM HUM PHAT
OM SHUNYATA GYANA VAJRA SBHAWA MAKO
HAM
All phenomena transform into unobservable emptiness.
From the state of emptiness in the center is a lotus and
sun seat upon which is a HUM and HRIH, radiating white
and red light rays respectively to the ten directions. The
light rays return and transforms into Heruka
Chakrasamvara together with the Mother.
To the right of that from BHRUM comes a precious, red
vase possessing all the characteristics, inside of which is

attainment by spreading the moon of the teachings of this


Tantra. May all living beings come under the care of a qualified
Lama and practice his supreme instructions.
This concludes the text, entitled Taking the Essence of
Immortality, an explanation on the method for accomplishing
and enjoying life-pills and so forth in dependence upon White
Heruka. It has been taken from the oral instructions of Jetsun
Ngulchu Dharma Bhadra Pelsangpo the Great by his humble
servant.

The publication [of this text in Tibet] was sponsored by the
benefactors Tra Lhun Chakpa Ge Tse Dor.
This text was translated by David Gonsalez and
completed during the month of June 2006 during the
auspicious time of engaging in the approximation retreat
of this Deity. This practice should be done only by those
who have received the empowerment of White Heruka
from a qualified Vajra-master and completed the Action
Permitting Retreat of this Deity.

the celestial mansion. In the center of this is lotus and sun


seat upon which is a letter HUM radiating light to the ten
directions, transforming all beings into Father Heruka
Chakrasamvara.
To the left from AH comes a skull cup vessel facing
oneself, inside which is the celestial mansion. In the
center of this is lotus and sun seat upon which is a red
letter HRIH radiating light to the ten directions and
transforms into Supreme Mother Vajrayogini.
Their three places are marked by the three letters. From
the HUM light rays invoke the wisdom beings and the
empowering Deities.
DZA HUM BAM HO
They dissolve and become inseparable.
The empowering Deities bestow the empowerment and
the excess water transforms into Guru Amitabha who
becomes their crown ornament.
After the generation make short offerings and praises like the selfgeneration:
Blessing the Inner Offering
HA HO HRIH, All faults of color, odor and potential are
purified and the substances transform into nectar and
become vast. OM AH HUM (3x)

Blessing the Outer Offerings


OM KHANDAROHI HUM HUM PHAT
OM SBHAWA SHUDDHA SARWA DHARMA
SBHAWA SHUDDHO HAM
Everything becomes emptiness.
From the sphere of emptiness from KAMs come vast and
expansive skull cups inside from which HUMs come
water for drinking, water for bathing, flowers, incense,
lights, perfume, food and music. Their nature is bliss and
emptiness, in the aspect of the individual offerings
substances that operate as objects of enjoyment of the six
senses to bestow exalted, uncontaminated bliss.

Colophon
This supreme instruction was a direct command given by
Manjushri
Directly to both Venerable Father Holy Conquerors
[Lama Tsongkhapa and Lama Umapa].
This very instruction for accomplishing life contains all
the essential points,
Like the tip of a victory banner possessing
Eight branches or like a well compared to
The shore of an ocean.
It is difficult to find the instructions of this profound
Tantra;
If others mistaken views are accepted, ones own
tradition will suffer.
In the past, I myself have made unmistaken dedication
prayers
To be cared for by a completely valid Lama with all the
characteristics
And to cherish these unmistaken vast and profound
Instructions and to be entrusted to this very Deity of Life.
For that purpose, do not defile the teachings of the secrets
of the Venerable Lama
Through your own effort and spoil them by mixing.
In short, the rosary of this poem is for the purpose of increasing
ones own practice and from that obtain the pure, white

When I see the signs of untimely death


May I immediately see clearly the body of Heruka
Chakrasamvara,
And having destroyed the Lord of Death
May I quickly become a knowledge-holder of life.
For a hundred years may I see a hundred harvests,
May there be long life free from illness with bliss and
happiness,
May I definitely enter the Supreme Vehicle,
And may this auspiciousness arise now.
May my life be clear and long like a sun that never sets,
And my merit increase like a waxing moon.
May I be endowed with bravery as great as stars in the
sky,
And may my practice be endowed with the glory of
complete bliss and happiness.
That was the dedication verses.
Auspicious prayer
May there be the auspiciousness of
The wish-fulfilling jewel, the excellent vase and the wishgranting cow.
May each and every one of my desires be effortlessly
fulfilled according to my wishes
By the Guru and Deity, and may I be protected by the
Dakinis and Protectors.
That was the auspicious prayer.

Praise
Your body with the marks and signs is beautiful to behold,
Your melodious Brahma speech is wonderful to hear,
Your mind of exalted wisdom is unsurpassed knowledge,
compassion and power;
I praise the three secrets of Glorious Heruka
Chakrasamvara.
On the crown of the Deities is a moon disk upon which is
a white letter OM surrounded by the mantra rosary
which is white in color and arranged counter-clockwise.
White light rays radiate to the ten directions and draw
back the essence of life in all of samsara and nirvana
without exception, and bringing back the marks and signs
of a Buddhas body with white light rays and nectar, and
precious jewels. These aspects are all collected and
dissolve into the letter OM.

OM HRIH HA HA HUM HUM PHAT TSE LA SUNG


SHIG SHA
At the throat of the Deities upon a lotus is a red letter AH
surrounded by the mantra rosary, red in color and
arranged counter-clockwise. Red light rays radiate to the
ten directions and draw back the essence of life in all of
samsara and nirvana without exception. These bring back
the four precious mantras with red light rays and nectar
and the Sanskrit vowels and consonants. These aspects are
all collected and dissolve into the letter AH.
OM HRIH HA HA HUM HUM PHAT TSE LA SUNG
SHIG SHA
At the heart of the Deities upon a lotus is a blue letter
HUM surrounded by the mantra rosary, blue in color and
arranged counter-clockwise. Blue light rays radiate to the
ten directions and draw back the essence of life in all of
samsara and nirvana without exception. These bring back
the long-life vases and skull cups filled with blue light rays
and nectar, the eight auspicious symbols and the seven
precious possessions of a king. These aspects are all
collected and dissolve into the letter HUM.
OM HRIH HA HA HUM HUM PHAT TSE LA SUNG
SHIG SHA

Your mind of exalted wisdom is unsurpassed knowledge,


compassion and power;
I praise the three secrets of Glorious Heruka
Chakrasamvara.

Dedication
Your blazing body subdues attachment in the three worlds
With a thousand white light rays like a hundred thousand
suns.
May the many passionate beings of your bodily parts
All simultaneously dance.
The valid goddesses, with valid commitments,
And the supreme valid explanations they have taught,
By the truth of these, may the goddesses
Take us into their care.
May I myself become Heruka
For the sake of all living beings,
And then lead every living being
To Herukas supreme state.
Through the power of the blessing of the Buddhas and
Bodhisattvas
And my single-pointed accomplishment of practice and
prayers,
May we be cared for by our Lord and Master,
And may his life be as stable and limitless as
Chakrasamvara.

Conclusion
Propitiate the Deity by making offerings, praises, and requests.
Then make dedication and auspicious prayers.

Vase Empowerment in Dependence upon LifeWater from the Vase


To the right in the vase is Heruka Chakrasamvara who
transforms into life-water, the nature of white
bodhichitta.
Recite this, taste some water from your right hand and sprinkle
it.
I receive empowerment from the vase-water. All negative
karma accumulated since beginningless time is purified, in
particular that of the body and taking the life of others.
All the negative karma and obscurations that cause a short
life are purified, and the inside of my body is filled with
white bodhichitta. I receive the vase empowerment and I
become a knowledge-holder of life and achieve the
attainment of immortality.
Secret Empowerment in Dependence upon LifeNectar from the Skull Cup
To the left, inside the skull cup, is Vajrayogini who
transforms into nectar, the nature of red bodhichitta.
Recite this and taste some nectar from your left hand.
I taste the nectar and all the negative karma of my speech
accumulated since beginningless time is purified, in
particular taking the life of others and all the negative
karma and obscurations that cause a short life are purified.
The inside of my body is filled with red bodhichitta and I

receive the secret empowerment. I become a knowledgeholder of life and achieve the attainment of immortality.
Recite this and meditate.
Wisdom-Mudra Empowerment in Dependence
upon Heruka Father and Mother
I myself enter into embrace with the Wisdom Mother and
a duplicate of the central Deity separates and arrives at
the crown of my head.
Recite this and place a flower on your crown.
The two Deities at my crown enter into embrace. The
red and white bodhichitta melts and enters into the crown
of my head and descends to my throat, heart and navel.
My whole body is filled I generate the four joys in stages
and I attain the realization of bliss and thatness. All of my
negative karma accumulated since beginningless time is
purified, in particular that of the mind. In particular
taking the life of others and all the negative karma and
obscurations that cause a short life are purified. I receive
the wisdom-mudra empowerment, I become a
knowledge-holder of life, and I achieve the attainment of
immortality.
Recite this and meditate.
Precious Word Empowerment in Dependence
upon the Life-Pill
Once again from the HUM at the heart of the central
Heruka Chakrasamvara, a duplicate emanates. It leaves

through his mouth, enters between my eyes and dissolves


into the letter HUM at my heart. The letter HUM
dissolves in stages up to the nada, and then the nada gets
smaller and smaller and dissolves into bliss and emptiness.
All of my negative karma accumulated since beginningless
time is purified; in particular, that of the body, speech
and mind and taking the life of others and all the negative
karma, and obscurations that cause a short life are
purified. I receive the precious word empowerment,
become a knowledge-holder of life and achieve the
attainment of immortality.
Once again from the central Deity Father and Mother a
duplicate separates and dissolves into me. My three doors
become inseparable from the body, speech, and mind of
the Deity, and I attain the supreme Vajra-Body of the
Deity.
Recite this, meditate, and place the life pills on your crown.
Then say:
DZA HUM BAM HO
The Deity Father and Mother melt into light and
transform into the aspect of life pills.
Recite this and meditate.
OM HRIH HA HA HUM HUM PHAT TSE LA SUNG
SHIG SHA
Recite this and then enjoy the life-pill.
