Specialist IP Telephony Design Elective Exam (132-S-900.7) Study Guide


The chart below details the three (3) sections that comprise the Specialist IP Telephony Design Elective Exam. Within each
section, the objectives, percentage of total exam, and listing of reference materials are listed. The reference materials are divided
into Avaya University courseware and Avaya documentation. This information is designed to help the student prepare for the
Avaya Specialist IP Telephony Design Elective Exam.
The Specialist IP Telephony Design Elective Exam (132-S-900.7) consists of 60 multiple choice and matching items. The passing
mark is 76%. That means you will need to answer at least 46 out of 60 questions correctly. You will have 120 minutes to complete
the exam and self survey.
Additionally, there are 16 items that are not scored. These items are items we are collecting data on. The 16 unscored items will
NOT affect your overall exam results. You will also receive the immediate results of your exam.
Section 1. Identify Customer Requirements:
This section of the exam represents 22% of the questions
Exam Section Objectives:
Given a customer request for a solution, describe the information to be obtained to define the customers needs, including
business needs (GOS, QoS, reliability, survivability) and forecasting future growth.
Explain the security and other issues that must be considered for a customer solution, including firewall, VPN, security gateway,
SRA, voice quality, and NAT

Section 2. Identify Customer Requirements: Hardware/software, Network analysis, IP migration potential


This section of the exam represents 43% of the questions
Exam Section Objectives: Identify and Analyze current customer environment
Explain how to identify whether current voice and data systems will support IP telephony, taking into consideration existing
servers, dial plan requirements, routing protocols, IP address scheme, 3rd party vendors, interoperability issues, existing
system/network management structure, and station power scheme (interoperability)
Describe the value of a network assessment, and interpret the outcome including: network utilization/performance baseline,
network readiness for VoIP and recommended solutions
Given a scenario, analyze the needs for the hardware configuration design, including number and type of (IP/DCP/Analog trunks
and stations
Given a scenario, analyze the needs for the software design: features and capabilities (RTU, Dial Plan, Network Regions, Call
Center)
Given a scenario, analyze the traffic needs for the design, including: voice traffic characteristics (arrival pattern, handling time,
high volume, complex call flows (inputs to configurator or exceptions) ), LAN/WAN traffic and existing capacities
Given a design, describe design deliverables including: software/firmware, reuse, network region design, topology, design
alternatives, configurator output
Given a scenario, analyze the customer environment needs (building, power, floor plan, etc.)
Gather customer data for security requirements (firewall, VPN, toll fraud prevention, security gateway and SRA)
Given an upgrade or platform migration scenario, select the appropriate strategy to integrate legacy technology into the design
Describe the relationship between ASD and traffic call flows
Given a scenario, use the ASD tool to build and validate a configuration

This section of the exam represents 35% of the questions
