Apgar score
The Apgar score is a clinical indicator
commonly used to describe the newborns physical
condition at birth. A hypoxic-ischemic insult, but
also many other non-asphyxial factors such as
maternal analgesia, prematurity and infection, may
cause depression of the Apgar score. A prolonged
depression of the Apgar score has been shown to
be related with death or severe neurodevelopmental
outcome [9].
Neonatal encephalopathy
Neonatal encephalopathy (NE) has been defined
as a clinically defined syndrome of disturbed
