The motto of Russell Sage College is To Be, To Know, To Do.

This motto is essential

to remember as a future educator of children and as a student at Russell Sage College. When I
read the School of Educations conceptual framework, I found some main ideas and
characteristics that I feel are crucial to possess as a future teacher. Using interpersonal skills are
important because I need to be committed to my students and have the ability to respond to their
strengths in the classroom and their needs as learners. It is important to use assessments and
reflections to understand how the students learn best and how well they are learning the material.
Using assessment data will help by making changes to lesson plans and what is taught during
class time for the benefit of the students. In addition, it is also important to keep them engaged
and excited to learn about different subject areas. It is crucial that teachers use knowledge to
inspire students to learn and continue their educational journey. By having an optimistic outlook
on education and every lesson that is being taught in the classroom, the teacher will be able to
engage and inspire every student to always try their best to succeed and the teacher will also
become a positive role model for everyone to look up to regarding learning and education by
having an encouraging attitude. The Russell Sage College School of education conceptual
framework showed me that teachers who have attended this college will graduate to become
educated future teachers, believe in full inclusion in the classroom, value students diversity, and
reflect on how well youre doing as a teacher to educate students to succeed and obtain valuable
information so they want to continue their education.
As technology grows and develops, I feel it is very important to keep technology
accessible in the classroom for students as well. Technology can be used in a variety of forms
and is also something that the students will be able to easily relate to, while learning new skills
and observing to promote their own learning. In my opinion, I like to follow the humanistic
approach of teaching with the teacher being more of a facilitator and technology is a great way
for students to learn and observe on their own. I think one of the best forms of technology is the
smart board. The smart board has plenty of options to carry out lessons in the classroom. There
are various games that can be played on the smart board that keep each student involved. For
example, math baseball is a game done through the smart board where a math problem is shown
and each child gets a controlled to answer a math problem. The room is divided by teams to play
the baseball game and each controller has a number so the student can see if they did the problem
correctly. The side that has more correct answers either gets to a base or makes a catch. There are
also many other uses for the smart board that make it an excellent source of technology in the
classroom. Also, computers are a great tool to have available for students. Computers allow the
students to work individually or in small groups. They have many tools that are helpful, such as
research databases that can be understood by students of each grade. Lastly, I think another form
of useful technology is virtual field trips. These are starting to allow more field trips and learning
to occur. This way, everyone could afford the field trip and everyone would be able to make
investigations and experience learning together.

There are many practices that are valuable for students that I feel are crucial in the
classroom. To start, I think running records are a relaxed and easy way to see how students are
developing with their reading. Running records allow the teacher to make a quick assessment of
a students reading level in an accurate way and observe any reading strategies that the student
may use. Additionally, running records can be a low-pressure situation for students because they
have the opportunity to read only in front of the teacher in a relaxed setting so they feel
comfortable. Furthermore, I am a strong believer in small group work in the classroom. In my
opinion, small groups allow students to learn to work together and it allows them to assist one
another with the task given. Being in groups can allow for a diversity of students who all will
think of different ways and contribute different ways to go about completing the given task.
In the future I will view my students as individuals with unique ideas and thoughts that
should be expressed in the classroom. Each student will have equal opportunities to participate in
activities. I will express the importance of equality and that everyone is the classroom should
treat other children the same way they would like to be treated. In an educational perspective, I
feel that my students are looking to further their education to grow and develop. I think it is
important that students learn about diversity through cultural books, inviting speakers to come
talk with the students, and making sure my lessons can accommodate the needs of every student.
Before I design my curriculum, I will review any students that have an IEP so I know what
modifications need to be made. My classroom will revolve around the student so they are free to
learn and feel comfortable.
Reflections are a necessity for teachers to receive from their students. Each student has
different learning goals and objectives that they strive to accomplish throughout the year.
Reflections that are done after a lesson can help to determine if the students were enjoying the
lesson, but it helps establish if they were also gaining valuable experiences of learning new
information or tasks from the lesson. Asking the students for a reflection will help me as a future
teacher because I will learn what is effective to promote the learning of my students and what
should be changed or modified. In the classes that I will take in the upcoming years, I will start
the courses that require lesson plans to help me to facilitate learning in the classroom.
Reflections from the students will be something I value because it will help me become a better
teacher for my students so I grow as an educator. But most importantly, I will be able to
understand what I can do better to improve my lessons to be more effective for my students to
learn.
It is important that the teacher is the one who provides the opportunities for the students
to learn. I feel there are certain dispositions that separate a good teacher from a great teacher. A
great teacher has patience. It is important the students feel confident going to their teacher for
extra help if they do not understand a topic. A teacher must always have patience to help each
student, no matter how long it may take to help or difficult it may be for the student to fully
understand a topic. Enthusiasm is also another quality that teachers need to have. It is important

that teachers love what they do and that they enjoy guiding students to learn and develop within
the classroom.
I feel that teachers have the ability to create multiple activities within the curriculum that
can be also become service learning projects. Service learning projects can create interest in the
project for the students while the community benefits from the students project and knowledge.
It is important to show students what is around them in their district and the resources they are
able to use to enhance their learning. Service learning projects are significant because it gives the
teachers an opportunity to show students what their knowledge and learning can do to benefit the
community. In my opinion, students should be involved in at least two service learning projects
in their classroom each year and receive praise for the accomplishments so they realize what a
great effect their hard work and learning has positively affected the community.
My goal as a future educator is to create a classroom that involves different forms of
learning, for example, kinesthetic, visual, auditory, and group work to stimulate students to want
to learn. Technology is a great resource that can help stimulate learning in students with various
techniques. I will make every effort to get every student involved and I will do this by
remembering Russell Sage Colleges conceptual framework for education. It is important to keep
each student engaged, while meeting their personal needs, and ensuring that each student is
treated equally and has the opportunity to learn and succeed. I will make sure to use a variety of
best practices to make sure my students are learning and my teaching styles is effective for each
student. I intend to implement all the experiences I have had at Russell Sage and all of the
knowledge I have obtained into my classroom to be a beneficial teacher for my students. I hope
to be a role model to my students and a teacher who has a positive impact on each students
educational expedition by creating a atmosphere where students have a desire to learn.
