Community Scorecard

It is a community based participatory monitoring tool


used for various functions including planning, monitoring, performance evaluation of services, social auditing and increases accountability, transparency and
participation between service users and providers .The
project trained 100 community scorecard facilitators
who have been conducting community scorecards in
their communities where they bring service users and
providers.
This has resulted in communities having a voice on any
initiative and are able to track changes, identify gaps
and come up with solutions in a participatory manner
in their communities

Building the capacity of local structures


The project trained 1168 members of Area and village
development committees. These members are currently working on development initiatives in their communities.

Monitoring and evaluation

The project developed monitoring tools including M&E frame


work, exist and sustainability strategy, checklist and gender
action plan. Monitoring and supervision were conducted
through out the life of the project in all the interventions.
Case studies and most significant change stories were
collected to verify the impact of the project. Baseline, mid
term evaluation, annual cohort study ,final evaluation and
value for money were conducted to measure progress and
impact. Data base of all participants involved in different
interventions was developed. Progress reports were compiled and shared

90 women are generating income through tailoring,


bakery and soap making after the project provided a
training to 50 tailoring participants, 20 for bakery and
another 20 for soap making.
These women have a skill which they are using to generate income and support their households. The project
provided sewing machines and start up materials to
the participants

Introduction
WE-RISE Purpose is to improve food security, income
and resilience for chronically food insecure rural
women (CFIRW) through their social and economic
empowerment through the following outcomes:
CFIRW have increased household productive assets
and resources and have control over these and are
more resilient to climate shocks.
Formal and informal institutions are more responsive to women's priorities and accountable to upholding their rights.
Cultural and social norms & attitudes better support
the individual & collective aspirations & improved
opportunities for CFIRW .
Highlights of achievements

Village Saving and loans( VSL)


VSL groups has been an entry point for project participants .With the start up membership of 8255
VSL members (6250 females and 2005 males), the
membership increased to 22,944 (f=17925 and
m=5019) in the course of project implementation. A
total of U$D 1,283,843.has been saved and shared
among VSL Members.

Agriculture production

Gender and Male champion

Another major component focused on sustainable


agriculture including small scale irrigation. All VSL
members were trained in agronomy and a total of
9,441 (f=7790 and m=1651) households were producers of soya and ground nuts .

Gender was another major component where traditional leaders and community participants were
trained to effectively deliver gender messages in the
communities. Gender dialogue sessions were organized where issues to do with gender as well as gender based violence were discussed.
Male champion model was introduced to reinforce
male involvement as it was discovered that women
empowerment could not be achieved by involving
women only. Male champion clubs were formed to
beef up the gender trained team including drama
groups. A total of 20,745 (f=13899 and m=6846) had access to increased awareness of rights and gender

Disaster risk reduction and climate change


The project mobilized and involved the communities in disaster risk reduction and mitigation
measures in order to assist the women to be
resilient to unexpected shocks. 126 project participants were trained on how to make energy
saving stoves. 13,200 community members
(8,144 females and m 5056) males). were
sensitized on the benefits of energy saving
stoves and are currently using the stoves as
well as generating income from the sales. The
project also focused on agro forestry to make
sure that communities grow trees.

Nutrition
The project trained 66 nutritional promoters who in
turn trained 22,944 VSL members in their respective groups. The theory trainings were followed with
food preparation practicals. Project participants
reported having their nutritional status improved
as they apply nutritional best practices using locally available foods

Adult education
The Project intensified adult education classes with
the aim of encouraging community members who
could not read and write to attend classes.. A total of
1,939 people (1679 females and 269 males )

Involvement of People with disability


The project has been working with people with
disabilities (and 40 (f=27 and m=13) 4 women
participated in the entrenurship trainings
