Service Starts Now

Service Starts Now is a campaign of the Commission on Elections for the

2015 SSC Elections. The campaign calls on the active engagements of
both the candidates and the voters in the many activities prepared by
Comelec in light of a clean, honest, transparent, orderly and engaging
election. This will be translated by a higher voter turn-out from last years
33%. This year, Comelec hopes that a more represented Student Council
will be elected into Office.
The campaign is a take-off from last year. 2014 was a good year to be in
USC. The SSC has initiated many activities; efforts were made; student
organizations were involved and were active in University-wide affairs.
Similarly, last year highlighted the role of social media and the internet for
the Carolinians to express their grievances. Taking from the role and
function of the SSC found in their constitution, the SSC serves as an active
forum for the students ideas and sentiments (Art 2, SSC Constitution).
The Service Starts Now campaign was inspired by the power and influence
brought by the social media platform thus the play button icon. Green was
specifically selected to veer from the dark and shady association of
Comelec in its color brand of black and white. This year, Comelec aims to
bring in an election that is closer to the Carolinians and to invite
engagement from partisan and non-partisan Carolinians alike. Green is a
cool, refreshing, inviting and friendly color. That is aside from the obvious
fact that Green has been the color of USC.
Lastly, why the Service Starts Now statement? Service Starts Now serves
as a reminder to all Carolinian voters- candidates are voters, too- that
Service should not begin after taking the oath of office. It begins now. The
campaigning should be seen as not a mere showcasing of credentials and
a public meeting to hear visionaries and their dreams for a better USC.
The campaigning should also be seen as a reflection of how a candidates
conduct when elected in office.
On a final note, Comelec hopes that the campaign will go beyond March 5,
the day of the Election. May #ServiceStartsNow remind the candiddatesthose who will win a seat and those who may serve USC in other meansto continue the promises that they made and to continue the fighting
legacy that they showed during the campaigns. The SSC Election should
not be the only platform and not the only basis for the leaders that they
are and will become. Service Starts Now and beyond.
