In addition to teaching Control in Aerospace, the instructor may enrich and build upon this
Lab to enable students to examine other topics in aerospace applications such as fluid
dynamics and the effects of factors such as air temperature, nozzle size, directional veins and
vector thrust on performance.
The NI VTOL Lab considerably increases the value of your investment in NI ELVIS II+ and NI
LabVIEW graphical programming software. The Lab consists of a helicopter with 1 degree-of-
freedom (1DOF). This system consists of one variable-speed fan with safety guards,
mounted on the end of a cantilevered arm. The fan and arm assembly pivot about an axis
attached to an encoder shaft. With this the Lab enables students to gain a hands-on
experience of concepts such as motion control, aerospace dynamics, kinematics and control.
