The most effective way to understand contemporary culture is to analyze the

trends of its youth.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or
disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you
take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in
which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these
considerations shape your position.

Every country has a rich culture, as there are people from different religions,
castes living in an area. The trends followed by a portion of an age group
might not be the same with another. It can also be so that the trends followed
by different age groups in an area might not be the same. I feel that the most
effective way to understand contemporary culture is not by the analysis of
the trends of just the youth. Some might say that youth is the future of a
country, but contemporary culture cannot be determined by what future
might follow.
First of all, the trend of love marriages and live-in relationships, some portion
of the youth is now broad minded and open to these trends, the other portion
might accept such trends but might not follow them themselves and want to
hold on to the concept of arranged marriages only. So overall a conclusion
cannot be drawn out as to whether the trend is being followed or not.
In addition, the trend of entrepreneurship, some portion of the youth, after
completing their under graduate and graduate courses are not opting to work
for an MNC, rather they want to work for themselves. This trend has been
widely followed by the youth but the aim of some portion of the youth is to
get a reputed degree and to work at a high paying designation. The growing
number of start-ups and the fierce competition for a reputable jobs at the
same time, shows that the youth is not following a particular trend.
To conclude, the above reasons and examples substantiate my claim that the
analysis of the trends followed by the youth is not the most effective way to
determine the contemporary culture.
