EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Vedan is a world-leading corporation in producing monosodium glutamate, chlor-alkali,
starch. In Vietnam, the corporation has a large-scale plant in Phuoc Thai village, Long
Thanh district of Dong Nai province, about 70 kilometers southeast of the Ho Chi Minh
City. To supply electricity for the companys own production need, Vedan (Vietnam)
Enterprise Corp., Ltd. (Vedan) built a co-generating power plant using gas of
Petrovietnam Gas for its operation. The power plants condensing equipments generate
plenty of steam. In an environment of steam and chemicals (such as NaOH, HCl and
Hypochlorite which are also produced by Vedan), equipments, especially gas pipelines,
are easily rusted and corroded.
Previously, Vedan had its gas pipeline connecting from PVGAS station to the power
plant repainted yearly. This was not only awkward but also uneconomical because the
power plant had to stop for safety during surface preparation and painting work on the
pipeline. Besides, the surface preparation, especially in high air, made the plant dirty.
After High Technology Petrochemical Joint-Stock Company (Hi-Pec) had introduced
ultra high pressure water injection (UHP) for surface preparation, high quality freesolvent Euronavy paints with 15-year guarantee, especially no operational stop of the
power plant throughout the executive process, Vedan signed a contract with Hi-Pec to
apply UHP and Euronavy paints for its gas pipeline.
-
Ultra high pressure water injection for surface preparation is described from
photo no.3 to 6.
2.5 years (30 months) after the paint application, in August 2009, Hi-Pec and
Vedan carried out an examination and evaluation on the gas pipeline. The result
is described from photo no.15 to 20.
Conclusion:
-
The ultra high pressure water injection for surface preparation was very safe,
clean, environmentally friendly and had no impact on the operation of the
power plant because the gas pipeline was still working normally.
Both sides continue to monitor the gas pipeline with 5-year periods.
