achieves this purpose while taking into account factors such as the nature of the students

Assessment Definitions
Formative assessment: The goal of formative assessment is to monitor student learning to
provide ongoing feedback that can be used by instructors to improve their teaching and by
students to improve their learning. More specifically, formative assessments:
Help students identify their strengths and weaknesses and target areas that need work; and
Help faculty recognise where students are struggling and address problems immediately
Formative assessments are generally low stakes, which means that they have low or no point
value.
Examples of formative assessments include asking students to:
Draw a concept map in class to represent their understanding of a topic;
Submit one or two sentences identifying the main point of a lecture; and
Turn in a research proposal for early feedback.

Summative assessment: The goal of summative assessment is to evaluate student learning at

the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark. Summative
assessments are often high stakes, which means that they have a high point value. Examples of
summative assessments include:
A mid unit assessment;
A final project;
A paper; and/or
A role play
Information from summative assessments can be used formatively when students or faculty use it
to guide their efforts and activities in subsequent courses.

Assignment: A task or piece of work allocated to someone as part of a job or course of study.

Project: an individual or collaborative enterprise that is carefully planned to achieve a particular

aim.

Written Response: In a response submission, you do assess the item youve been assigned to
observe, but you add your personal reaction and impressions to the report. The steps for
completing response submission are:
Observe or read the piece for an initial understanding;
Re-read the piece and stop to reflect often;
Record your thoughts and impressions in notes;
Develop an opinion; and
Write an outline.
Role Play: Role-playing refers to role training where people rehearse situations in preparation for a
future performance and to improve their abilities within a role. The most common examples are
occupational training role-plays and educational role-play exercises.

Assessment Method One - Assignment

Scenario
The CEO of Crimson Hotel has asked you to act as Change Management Agent and take
initiative nationally at all five (5) branches of the hotel. You have been asked to prepare a plan to
implement a whole- of- business change. You have been given a budget of $20,000.00, to do
this.
The CEO has recognised that the lack of standardisation of operations and the different levels of
training has reduced the quality of customer experience and potentially service, and makes it
difficult to plan for the future as each branch currently makes many of their own decisions.
It is expected that the change management process will be fairly smooth if adequate measures
are taken and the process is well managed. The major resistance will come from two (2) branch
managers who dont have any formal qualifications in hospitality and learned through
experience. They will also not want to participate in any training initiative.
If the whole standardisation process is not managed carefully, there is a threat of business loss.
This is a major concern for the CEO, your employment.
All of the planning can be conducted with the available facilities of the College. You have
considered that about half () to one (1) page for each separate point would be a sufficient piece
of information and you have separated the checklist into three separate tasks.

Task One
Identify change requirements and opportunities
1. Review current performance with reference to organisational objectives and identify the need of
strategic change. In your analysis you should also review existing policies and practices against
strategic objectives. You may use SWOT analysis or any other analysis tool.
2. Discuss any trends in the external environment which may impact on the achievement of
organisation's Change Management objectives.
3. Identify some major operational change requirements due to performance gaps, business
opportunities or threats, or management decisions as part of this Change Management initiative.
4. Review and prioritise change requirements or opportunities with relevant managers identified in
Task- 1.3.
5. Would you like to consult specialists and experts to assist in the identification of major change
requirements and opportunities? Give reasons of your decision. If yes, what major areas would you
discuss with him?

Task Two
Develop change management strategy
1. Complete a cost-benefit analysis for high priority change requirements and opportunities.
2. Complete a risk analysis, identify barriers to change, and agree and record mitigation strategies.
3. Develop change management project plan.
4. From whom you will seek approvals from relevant authorities to confirm the change
management process
5. What resources will you need for this project and how will you report and receive information
from relevant managers?

Task Three
Implement change management strategy
1. Develop communication or education plan in consultation with relevant groups and individuals to
promote the benefits of the change management to the organisation and to minimise loss.
2. How you will organise and manage activities to deliver the communication or education plans to
relevant groups and individuals?
3. How you will consult with relevant groups and individuals for input into the change process after
the implementation commences?
4. What possible barriers do you see to the change? Develop a risk management and mitigation
plan for each.
5. What will be your intervention strategy to deal with the barriers identified in Task 3.4?
6. What are your strategies and how will you activate these to bring in the change?

7. How and when you will conduct regular evaluation and review, and modify your change
management project plan to achieve change program objectives?
