The City of Merritts Fall Leisure Guide

was just published, and the much-anticipated (by me) class has been announced:
6 weeks of art with Joel Reid for adults
aged 18+.
Joel took courses in the fine arts program at TRU in 2003-04, and soon after
found his true artistic voice. He has developed an art style drawing on the traditions of abstract expressionism, but
for 10 years he has honed his own unique
style that is true & fresh & exciting.
Recently he tutored children in the
Citys after school art program, and is now
looking forward to expanding the program for adults. The Leisure Guide says
that students will explore alternative
ways to work with traditional materials
and create your own mixed media canvas.
If there are enough students who sign
up, the class will run 6 wks on Wednesdays, Oct 19-Nov 23, 6:30-8:30pm. Cost is
$100. You can register up to 1 week prior
to the program start date. To register call

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District will be holding its annual Out-ofTown Board of Directors Meeting in
Merritt this year, on Thursday, Aug. 18,
at the Civic Centre, starting at 10am.
The agenda for the meeting will be
made available in the afternoon on
Thursday, Aug. 11, and can be found on
the TNRD website, tnrd.ca. As always,
TNRD Board of Directors Meetings are

The province shared annual funding

last week, to the tune of $108 million
overall. Merritt received $481,396 under
the Small Community & Regional District Grant, and $ 128,673 under the Traffic Fine Revenue Sharing Grants , for a
combined total of $610,069. The funding
allows local governments to meet local
needs, i.e.. more policing, restorative justice, increased community safety initiatives, infrastructure, administrative
support and service delivery priorities.
