OFFICE OF THE MAYOR

LENNY CURRY
MAYOR

CITY HALL SUITE 400

117 W. DUVAL STREET
JACKSONVILLE, FL 32202

August 1, 2016
Dear Student:
It is with great pride that I inform you of your nomination to the Mayors Young Leaders Advisory Council
(MYLAC). Congratulations on being considered for this prestigious youth advisory group because of a
recommendation from a teacher, principal or guidance counselor.
MYLAC will consist of 25 high school juniors and 25 seniors who represent the greater Jacksonville area, as
well as Duval County public schools, private schools, charter schools and homeschool environments.
Participants will have the opportunity to meet with my administration on a quarterly basis and to advise on
issues directly affecting the youth of Jacksonville. Students will meet monthly to learn about our city, local
government, civic responsibilities and other current topics. They will also collaborate on an annual project
designed for and by students. Each MYLAC member will serve two years on the Council if you enter as a
junior. If you are a senior, you will only serve one year.
In preparation for this years selection process, nominees must complete the online registration form (at
http://www.coj.net/departments/boards-and-commissions/young-leaders-advisory-council/bizforms/ylacregistration) and submit a 500-word essay on Why I Want to Serve My City Through MYLAC.
The deadline for both your registration and essay is Monday, August 22. Once weve received your
completed registration and essay, well determine your interview date. We will then make our selection for
the 2016-2017 MYLAC.
If you have questions, please contact Chardae Hancock, MYLAC Program Coordinator, at (904) 630-4986.
Completed submissions may be emailed to chancock@coj.net, or mailed to Attn: Mayors Young Leaders
Advisory Council, Jacksonville Childrens Commission, 1095 A. Philip Randolph Blvd., Jacksonville 32206.
Sincerely,

Lenny Curry
Mayor
