thioridazine with
fluoxetine or within
a minimum of 5
weeks after stopping
fluoxetine.
NURSING
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Observe 10 rights in
giving medication.
2. Watch for behavioral
disturbances, especially in
children.
3. Dont stop abruptly
because this may worsen
seizures. Call prescriber at
once if adverse reactions
develop.
4. Monitor patient for
oversedation.
5. Monitor CBC and liver
function tests.
6. Withdrawal symptoms
are similar to those of
barbiturates.
1. Observe 10 rights in
giving medication.
2. Use antihistamines or
topical corticosteroids to
treat rashes or pruritus.
3. Watch for weight
change during therapy,
particularly in underweight
or bulimic patients.
4. Record mood changes.
Watch for suicidal
tendencies.
Use cautiously in
patients at high risk
for suicide and in
those with history of
diabetes mellitus,
seizures, mania, or
hepatic/renal/CV
disease.

NURSING
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Observe 10 rights in
giving medication.
2. Assess for Parkinsonism,
EPS.
3. Assess for mental
status.
4. Assess patient response
if anticholinergics are
given
5. Assess for tolerance
over long term therapy,
dosage may have to be
increased or changed
6. Avoid activities that
require alertness, may
cause dizziness,
drowsiness and blurring of
vision.

ask patient if he is allergic
to penicillin or
cephalosporins.
Contraindicated in
patients
hypersensitive to
drug or other
cephalosproins.
Use cautiously in
