Classroom Rules
The classroom is for teachers to teach and learners to learn.
Period.
Rules and policies help to ensure that this happens.
We are reviewing these rules and policies so that
you are fully aware of what is expected of you in
this classroom. There will be no surprises, and you
will know how to be successful in the class.

Dark Side Cards

Occasionally, a student may venture into the dark
side. To help remind you to keep within the
classroom rules to ensure that the teacher can
teach and the learners can learn, I may give you a
Dark Side card. This means that you should
reflect on your behavior and make immediate
positive changes or a BMQ death star will be fast
approaching.

Light Saber Cards

In most situations, it is much more likely
that I will see a students doing good deeds,
helping classmates, and demonstrating
good Jedi behavior. In that case, I will hand
out a Light Saber card to show my
appreciation for your positive behavior..
You may turn the Light Saber card into me
for a treat at the end of class. You may not
ask for a Light Saber card

Procedures
Procedures are the specific guidelines we will
follow for doing basic tasks in the classroom.

We will only be reviewing the most

commonly used procedures at this
time.
Procedures may be changed or
added to if the need arises.

Entering the Classroom

-If the classroom door is shut, students should line up along the wall
outside the door and wait to enter.
-When the door is open, students may quietly enter the room
-Quietly go to your seat, remove chair if it is on desk and remove any chairs
beside you.
-Every day there will be a bell ringer assignment for you to work on
immediately.
-No Questions the first ten minutes of class. This is time for students to get
settled and work on the Bell Ringer assignment, Ms. Davis to take
attendance, and to get our minds ready for class.

NO BACKPACKS!

Exiting the Classroom

-The teacher will dismiss the students.
-Please do not pack up your books until you are told to do so.
-The last five minutes of class, students will be seated quietly
making sure they have their agenda completed, homework
turned in, and all materials packed away.
-Students will remain quiet until the bell rings, and they are
dismissed.

During Instruction
-Listen to the teacher/speaker with full attention.
-No pencil sharpening, talking, moving about the classroom,
or whispering.
-Ask permission to speak by raising your hand and waiting
quietly to be called on.
-After instruction, make sure you understand the concept.
-If not, ask questions by mentioning which part you didnt
understand.

Bathroom/Hall Passes
You will need to ask permission to leave
the classroom for any reason. If you are
given permission to leave, please take the
appropriate pass from the back wall to
wear around your neck. This will show
the staff that you have permission to be
in the hallway.

Each quarter you will be given a select

number of passes to use.

Bell Ringers
The procedure each day, is to enter the room
quietly. There will be a Bell Ringer assignment
posted on the smart board. It is your job to get
settled quickly and begin the Bell Ringer activity.
Please tab off an area in your school binder for bell
ringer activities. The bell ringer is a daily grade.
They will be worth one point each. That doesnt
sound like a lot, but those points add up!

When You Are Absent

-Check the Absent folders for information on what was
done in class. You will have a day for each day that you
miss to make up the work.
-If you have any questions about the information covered
or assignments, please make arrangements to meet with
me to review.

Turning in Homework
Each class has a turn in basket against the wall.
You are expected to turn in your homework before
class or at the end of class (time permitting) to
your designated class basket. Ms. Davis will
periodically assign students to pass back papers in
the out baskets.

Late Work
I do accept late work. There will be a penalty of
10% off the total grade each class period it is late.
The last day to turn in late work is the Friday
before the end of the quarter.

While You Are Working

Make sure you read or listen to the directions

about your work and understand the directions.
If given permission, you may work together on
certain assignments. It is expected that you
interact in quiet voices, so that others around
you have quiet time to work.
If you have a question, quietly ask for help.
Talking to each other should be no louder than
a whisper.
Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort
to finish your work on time.

NOISE rule applies!

Cheating and Plagiarism

We exist under the Jedi honor
code. It is expected that you
honestly do your own work.
Cheating and/or plagiarism will
result in a zero on the
assignment.

After You Are Finished

Check your work and the directions one more time to see
if you missed anything or did something incorrectly.
Please be sure that you have done both sides of the
paper if there are two sides.
Check to see if the heading is written correctly on your
paper.
If the assignment is to be turned in, do so.
If appropriate, read quietly in your seat.

Moving Around the Room

If the teacher is leading a whole group activity
or someone is giving a presentation, you will
not be allowed to move around the room
without permission.
Do not ask to go to the bathroom or your
locker during a classroom discussion unless it
is an emergency.

Gradespeed and Dark Side Reports

I try to update Gradespeed each week.
If you turn in a late assignment, I may not
update your grade until the next Gradespeed
update cycle.
Typically each month after I have updated
Gradespeed, I send home Darkside Reports to
notify parents about students who are not
shining in Gradespeed.

Red and Yellow Cups

If Ms. Davis has a Red cup showing on her desk, that
means no students may approach. If the cup is yellow,
approach you may, but only one-at-a-time.
There is a No Question hold the first ten minutes of
class to allow students to get settled, working on the bell
ringing, and focusing the mind for class.

Nurse passes
If you need to go to the nurse, please come to
me when it is appropriate and let me know. I
will give you a nurse pass. You MUST fill this
out BEFORE you go to the nurses office.

Getting Class Attention

I will raise my
hand and say,
Give me Five.
You will
Body Still
Eyes on Speaker
Mouth Quiet
Ears Listening
Hands Free
When you hear the call, please also raise your hand to help
your classmate be aware.

Last 5 Minutes of Class

The class timer will announce when we have 5
minutes left of class. This will signify that we will
quietly do the following:
-Write homework/notes in agenda
-Put away materials that you have been using
-Turn in any assignment that are due
-Class helpers will do a trash and desk check
-You may see Ms. Davis if you received a High Five
card, Take 5 card, or BMQ card.
-Sit quietly at desk and wait for dismissal

Paper Heading
Students should always include an appropriate
heading on all of their papers in the upper
right hand corner. The format should be as
follows:

ON YOUR PAPER BEFORE YOU HAND IT IN!!!

Incomplete heading papers will receive the dreaded Darth
Vader stamp! Eek!

If you receive a Darth Vader stamp on your paper, that means

you only received half credit. You need to fix the heading,
resubmit the assignment to receive creditwith a late grade.
Always check your heading before turning in work!

Corrected Paper Stamps

Each paper I receive will receive a red stamp. If you
have a paper returned and there is no red stamp, that
may mean that it was not graded. Bring it to me
immediately.
KEEP YOUR PAPERS! There may be times that I do not
correctly enter a paper into Gradespeed. If you find
this to be the case, just bring it to my attention, show
me the red stamp on the assignment, and I will make
adjustments.
