LIMA With just days until the gates open,

Allen Count Fair Manager Bob Fricke and his group
of superintendents and volunteers are getting things
ready to welcome thousands of fairgoers from Aug.
19-27.
I know what Jay Begg was talking about now
when he would say the three weeks preceding the fair
were the busiest of his life, Fricke said. A lot has
to come together to make everything go smoothly.
This might be Frickes first go round as Allen
County Fair manager, but its not his first fair by far.
Fricke, from Elida, participated in nearly a dozen
Allen County Fairs as a 4-H member.
I love the fair, the food, the livestock shows,
Fricke said. I met my wife at the fair. What could
be better?
Fricke said while not much is new on the fairgrounds, what has been improved will make a difference to attendees.
Weve added more than 800 seats to the grandstand, 24 new light poles with LED lighting, reseeded and leveled the campground area and our WiFi
now covers 90 percent of the fairgrounds, he said.
Weve also added three golf cart shuttles to help
people navigate the grounds.

Weldes Big Bear Show and Bear Hollow Wood
Carvers and take a stroll through the Jungle Island
Zoo in Roschman Park. Galaxy Girl at the North
Midway and Magician Chris Yantek on the AAA
Grandstand Plaza Stage will both offer three shows
a day.
The AAA Grandstand Plaza Stage will also offer
karaoke on Aug. 19 and free concerts with party
rock cover band Cherry Blonde on Aug. 20; Brother
Believe Me on Aug. 21; Shelby County Line on Aug.
23; and New Outlook Bluegrass on Aug. 24. All
shows start at 8 p.m.
Theres an event each night in the Grandstand
with the band show, cheer and baton and flag competitions, the demo derby, Tug A Truck and NTPA
Truck and Tractor Pull, harness racing and World
Championship Rodeo.
Concert ticket sales are going well with Nelly featuring Sean Kingston on Aug. 26 and Rascal Flatts
and Kelsea Ballerini on Aug. 27.
Sales were really good when the tickets first went
on sale and theyve been steady since, Fricke said.
We will have them available until the shows start.
We have a lot of impulse buys as well.
There will also be more than 1,200 FFA and 4-H
exhibits at the fair including livestock shows, booths
and skills competitions.

Rap artists Nelly and Sean Kingston will

perform Aug. 26 on the main stage at the
fairgrounds. Gates will open at 6 p.m., and
the show will kick off at 7 p.m. with performances by DJ Old Skool, DJ Bionicman
and local artist Jola, of Vandalia. Sean
Kingston will perform at 8:45 p.m., and
Nelly will take the stage at 10 p.m.
Nelly has four songs that topped the
Billboard Hot 100, including 2006s
Grillz, 2002s Dilemma with Kelly
Rowland, 2002s Hot in Herre and 2003s
Shake Ya Tailfeather with P.Diddy and

Murphy Lee.
Kingston, who has reggae roots, hit No.
1 on Billboards charts, 2007s Beautiful
Girls. Hes also known for Fire Burning,
which hit No. 5 in 2009, and Take You
There, which topped at No. 7 in 2008.
Tickets will be available at the fairgrounds box office and at allencofair.com.

Superstar vocal group Rascal Flatts, will bring their world-class singing talents to
the Allen County Fair on Saturday, Aug. 27 on the main stage.
Since their inception, Rascal Flatts has scored 15 No. 1 songs, sold over 22.8 million albums, over 29 million digital downloads worldwide to date. The trios current
single I Like The Sound Of That is taken from their ninth studio album, REWIND,
which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart, making them one of only
four acts during the SoundScan era to have eight consecutive studio albums debut in
the top spot.
The show will open with Kelsea Ballerini whos breakout hit Love Me Like You
Mean It and catchy new single Dibs are featured on her debut album The First
Time, that landed Top 5 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart. Ballerini is a double
CMA & ACM Nominee, and was honored as one of Billboards Women In Music
for 2015.
Tickets for the Rascal Flatts with Kelsea Ballerini concert are via the fairgrounds
box office or by calling 419-228-7141. Ticket prices are $65 for the party pit directly
in front of the stage, $55 for track seating and $45 for grandstand and bleachers.
Prices include service charges, but do not include a gate admission ticket to the
Fair, which is required. Buyers can also continue to purchase tickets anytime online

you SMELL a leak from a gas line or appliance, a familiar
odor like rotten eggs is often added to natural gas. Or you

plays soccer, basketball and track. He is a senior at Allen East. In the summer he
works as a lifeguard at Sun Valley Family Campground. Caleb has been involved
in 4-H since he was a Cloverbud. He has taken a wide variety of non-livestock 4-H
projects from woodworking to nutrition. He has always shown hogs throughout
his 4-H years and even once showed goats. Austin has been on Jr. Leaders and is
currently on Jr. Fairboard. The highlight of every summer for Austin is 4-H Camp
where he now serves as a teen counselor. He has also enjoyed the
LIMA The 2016 Allen County Fair royalty has been chosen.
Allen County Fair King is Caleb Austin. He is the son of Jeff and Kristi Austin
and will be a senior this year at Allen East High School. He is a Northwest
Conference Scholar Athlete and All Ohio Scholar Athlete. He enjoys sports and

opportunity to represent Allen County at The Ohio State Fair in many of his
4-H projects over the years. This year, he is also serving as Allen County Pork
King. Austin is the president of Harrod Lively 4-H Club and the vice-president
of Mustang Country Connections. One day, he hopes to follow in his fathers and
grandfathers footsteps to be a superintendent of the hog department at the Allen
County Fair.
Allen County Fair Queen is Gabrielle Livchak, the daughter of Rob and Amy
Livchak. She will be entering her senior year at Lima Senior High School and has
been involved with 4-H for nine years, taking home economics projects with a
special interest in cooking. She previously held the position of president two years

as part of Lima Lucky Clovers and she currently holds the position of treasurer of
her current club, Luck of the Irish. Livchak has been a 4-H Camp Counselor for
four years and has been on the Allen County Junior Fair Board for three years. Last
year, she was the Junior Fair Board treasurer and this year she is the vice president.
Livchak is involved with her school, as well as Teens for Christ Ministry, where
she volunteers at Junior High chapters and on their ministry team. She has been
the Key Club president for two years and was the Junior DECA Class president
this past year. She has been captain of her swim team for three years, as well as
a school record holder in the 100 Breaststroke. Gabrielle plans to join the Teens
for Christ Youth Ministry Internship after high school, where she will be taking
classes through Summit University and working with teens throughout the Lima
area, as she loves to help her community.
Prince for this years fair is Griffen Croft, son of Wes and Jodi Croft. He
will be a senior at Spencerville High School this fall and has been a member of
the Blue Ribbon Bearcats 4-H club for the past 12 years, where he has recently
served as the club president. He is also the vice president of his local FFA chapter. In 4-H and FFA, he has shown swine, poultry and market lambs. He has
also taken public speaking and knots. Croft is a member of the Allen County
Junior Fair Board and is a 4-H Camp counselor. He plays basketball and soccer
at Spencerville. Outside of sports and 4-H, he is a member of the National Honor
Society, Spanish Club, Lima Youth Leadership and the Industrial Arts Club.
He is also a member of the South Side Christian Church Youth Group. In his
time off, he volunteers with the Tech Mentors Program, Meals of Hope and has
gone to the Dominican Republic with his Spanish Club to help out at the local
orphanages. After high school, he hopes to attend the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, majoring in architecture.
This years Fair Princes is Taylor Koenig, daughter of Tom and Tami
Koenig. She is 18 years old and will be a freshman at The Ohio State
University at Lima. She has been involved in 4-H for 10 years, has been a
member of FFA for four years, a member of Junior Fair Board for three years
and has received several awards. She has taken numerous projects including
foods, health, self-determined, crop and shop, pet animals, vet science and
livestock projects. Her school activities include the National Honor Society
for two years, marching, concert, jazz and pep band and served as the band
president and section leader her senior year. She also participated in the
choir. She served as reporter for the Spencerville FFA for two years as well
as historian for one year, earning top honors for her officer books and has
held several offices in her 4-H club, most recently serving as president for
four years. Koenig enjoys volunteering at St. Ritas Medical Center every
week and has done so for the past three years with over 350 hours of work
dedicated. Over the summer, she likes to spend time out in the barn with her
animals taking care of them and spending time with friends and family. She
has raised market goats for 10 years and enjoys raising her two Pygmy goats,
Tom and Jerry, as well as her two steers for the fair.
