Q.1. A vessel contains 33 litres of milk and water in the ratio 7:4.

If the
mixture is replaced with 4 litres of milk ,what is the quantity of milk in the
mixture?
Ans. 33 lit in in the ratio of 7:4
Milk=7*33/11=21 and Water 4*33/11=12
now we taken out 4 lit mixture (water and milk)
In the mixture taken out milk = 4*7/11=2.55 and water= 4*4/7= 1.45 (2.55+1.45 =
4 lit)
Now subtract 2.55 from amount of milk =21-2.55=18.45
After that we added 4 lit of milk
18.45+4= 22.45 litre
Q 2. Find sum of first 15 terms of the following series
20,3,22,9,24,27,26,81.....
Ans. This series is 2 series combined 20 22 24 26 28 30 32 and 3 9 27 81 243 729
so combined series is 20 3 22 9 24 27 26 81 28 243 30 729 32 2187 34
sum of these numbers is 3495
Q.3. A building 11m height casts a shadow of length 23.1 then height of
the building which casts the shadow of length 14.7 under similar
conditions will be ______
Ans. 23.1 : 14.7 =11 : X
by cross multiplying :14.7*11/23.1=7
Q.4. Selling price is 574, loss suffered 5% then what will the selling price
to gain 5%?
Ans. Let cost price=x;
100x-5x/100=574;
therefore, x=574*100/95;
now, to sell in 5% profit,
the sell price=x+ x*(5/100) = 574*100/95+(574*100/95)*5/100;
therefore sell price=634.42
Q.5. The numbers between (200,300) which are not divisible by 2,3,4,5
Ans. 1) There are 101 integers (300 - 200 + 1 = 101). Since the set begins with an even and
ends with an even, there are 51 evens.
2) Question says integers are not divisible by 2, leaving all of the odds (101 - 51 = 50
integers). [This takes care of numbers divisible of 4 as well since all these are divisible by 2]
3) Question says integers are not divisible by 5, removing all the integers ending in 5
(already took out those ending in 0). Take out 10 integers (2?5, ? = 0 to 9), leaving us with
40 integers.
4) We have to remove the remaining numbers that are multiples of 3. Those are 201, 207,
213, 219, 231, 237, 243, 249, 261, 267, 273, 279, 291, and 297...a total of 14 numbers. 26
numbers left!

Q.6. An urn has 15 balls numbered from 1 to 15. When the ball is picked then it is
again replaced. What is the probability that an odd and an even numbered ball is
picked and replaced?
Ans. no of odd balls=1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15 (i.e means 8 odd balls are here)
no of odd ball=2,4,6,8,10,12,14(i.e means 7 even balls)
now total balls=15
probability is=(8/15)*(7/15)=56/225
Q.7. What is the probability that 2 heads do not occur consecutively when a fair
coin is tossed 10 times?
Ans. Let us take in the first attempt we got head (prob =1/2)
next we should get in 3 rd time, next 5th time ,7 th time , 9 th time total 5 times so
total prob is (1/2)^5
and if we got head in second time -> 2nd ,4 th, 6th,8 th 10 th total 5 times
sum the both === (1/2)^5 +(1 /2)^5 = 2((1/2)^5)=(1/2)^4
so the answer is (1/2)^4

Q.8. If 4m+7n=3, how many integer values of m & n are possible for 0
Ans: infinite
m=6.n=-3
m=-1,n=1
m=13 n= -7..............so on
Q.9. ABCD is a horizontal rectangular field with AB = 50 m and BC = 27 m. AT is a
vertical mast, the angle of elevation from B to T is 45o, calculate the distance from
C to T.
Ans. as ATB is Right angle triangle
AT = TAN 45 * AB = 50m
AC=sqrt of (AB^2+BC^2)
= sqrt of(50^2 + 27^2)
=56.82
NOW triangle ACT IS a right angle triangle
so CT = sqrt of (AT^2+AC^2)
= sqrt of(50^2 + 56.82^2)
=75.68

Q10. If x1/p = y1/q = z1/r and y2 = xz, what is the value of p+r?
Ans. let x1/p = y1/q = z1/r = k
therefore, x = kp
y = kq
z = kr
now,
y2 = xz
=> k2q = kp.kr
=> 2q=p+r.

Q11. 7,15,46,?,926,5557
Ans. 7*2+1=15
15*3+1=46
46*4+1=185
185*5+1=926
926*6+1=5557

Q12. A man walks east and turns right and then from there to his left and
then 45degrees to his right. In which direction did he go?
Ans. Turns right from east - He is facing south
Turns left from south Again facing east
Turns 45 deg right from east Going in southeast direction.
Q13. A man said he spent 1/6 of his life as a child, 1/12 as salesman in a
liquor shop, 1/7 and 5 years as a politician and a good husband
respectively. At that time Jim was born. Jim was elected as Alderman 4
years back, when he was half of his age. What is his age?
Ans. lets say his age is x.
so child=x/6
salesman= x/12
politician=x/7
good husband=5
now jim was born.
Jim was elected as Alderman four years back, when he was half of his age
=x/2-4
so,x/6+x/12+x/7+5=x/2-4
=>x=84
so his age is 84 years
or
X/6 + x/12 + x/7 + 5 + 4 + x/2 = x. Solving x= 84
Q14. In objective test a correct answer score 4 marks and on a wrong
answer 2 marks are deducted. A student scores 480 marks from 150
questions. How many answers were correct?
Ans. lets take x questions were correct
This means 150-x questions were wrong
so x*4-(150-x)*2=480 =>
4x -300+2x =480 =>
correct answers =130 and 20 were incorrect

6x=780

Q.15. On a particular day A and B decide that they would either speak the
truth or will lie. C asks A whether he is speaking truth or lying. He answers
and B listens to what he said. C then asks B what A has said B says A says
that he is a liar. What is B speaking?
1. Truth
2. Lie
3. Truth when A lies
4. Cannot be
determined
Ans (b) if 'A' is liar ,then 'A' tells 'c' that he is speaking 'TRUE' &
if 'A' is liar then 'B' also liar and hence Tells 'C' that 'A' is liar.

Q.16. If there are 1024*1280 pixels on a screen and each pixel can have around 16
million colours. Find the memory required for this?
Ans. 1024 * 1280 = 1310720 pixels.
16 million colours comes from the fact that each pixel has 24 bits of information to store the
colour , and 2^24 = 16777216 possible values for the colour.
24 bits = 3 bytes.
since 1 byte=8 bits
Multiplying 1310720 by 3 gives 3932160 bytes. This is approximately 4 MB of video memory.

Q17. The difference b/w the compound interest payable half yearly and the
simple interest on a certain sum lent out at 10% p.a for 1 year is Rs 25.
What is the sum?
Ans. In simple words S.I= PTR/100 =(P*1*10)/100
HERE AMOUNT A= p+ S.I= P+ P/10=11P/10.

= P/10

NOW FOR COMPOUND INTEREST WHEN CALCULATED HALF YEARLY AMOUNT

=P[1+R/200]2T =P[1+10/200] 2*1 =441P/400
here its given in the question that difference between simple interest and compound
interest half yearly ... is 25
=> 441p/400-11p/10= 25
=>p/400=25
=>p= 400*25=10000

so sum = 10000

Q.18: A father is 30 years older than his son however he will be only thrice
as old as the son after 5 years what is fathers present age?
Ans: Let the age of the son = x
Then the age of his father = x+30
Given,father will be only thrice as old as the son after 5 years
x+30+5 = 3(x+5)
x+35 = 3x+15
35-15 = 3x-x
20 = 2x
2x = 20
x = 20/2 = 10
Therefore the age of his father = x+30 = 10+30 = 45 years

Q.19: The price of sugar increases by 20%. By what % should a housewife

reduce the consumption of sugar so that expenditure on sugar can be
same as before?
Ans: An increase of 20% can be written as 120/100 => 6/5
Now, 6/5 x 5/6 = 1...so, 5/6 of the increased value takes us back to the start
Now, 5/6 = 0.833333333333 ; i.e. 83.3%
so, the person needs to reduce by 16.7%

Q20: A man shows his friend a woman sitting in a park and says that she is
the daughter of my grandmothers only son. What is the relation between
the two?
Ans: man's grandmother's only son
man's father
she the daughter of my grandmother's only son
man's father's daughter
so sister is ans

man's sister

Q21: Every day a cyclist meets a car at the station. The road is straight
and both are travelling in the same direction. The cyclist travels with a
speed of 12 mph. One day the cyclist comes late by 20 min. and meets the
car 5miles before the Station. What is the speed of the car?
Ans: - Let the point where the cyclist meets the car be X, which is 5 km before the station.
- As the cyclist's speed is 12 km/hr, it will take another 25 mins. for him to reach the station.
For example, if everyday he meets the car at the station at 8'o clock, then he must reach the
pt. X at 7:35.
But, today as he is late by 20 mins., he will be reaching X at 7:55 only.
So, as the car is 5 km before the station at 7:55 and reaches the station at 8:00, it crosses 5
km in 5 mins. So, its speed is 60 kmph.
Q22: A boy has Rs 2. He wins or loses Re 1 at a time. If he wins he gets Re

out of the game if he earns Rs 5. Find the number of ways in which this is
possible.
Ans: 0L
1 way
1L
3 ways
2L
7 ways
3L -> 4 ways
4L
1 way
total 16 ways
Q23: A man leaves office daily at 7pm A driver with car comes from his home to

Q25: 5 men or 8 women do equal amount of work in a day. a job requires 3

men and 5 women to finish the job in 10 days how many woman are
required to finish the job in 14 days
Ans: Lets assume total LCM(5,8) = 40units.
As, 5 men or 8 women do equal amount of work in a day,
1Man does 8units/day and 1Woman does 5units/day.
3M and 5W in 10 days do (3*8 + 5*5)*10 = 490units
To do 490 units in 14 days, number of Women required = 490/(14*5) = 7

Q26. 15 men take 21 days of 8 hrs. Each does a piece of work. How many
days of 6 hrs each would it take for 21 women if 3 women do as much work
as 2 men?
Ans: 15 men - 21 days - 8 hrs.
means m1=15;d1=21;h1=8;
21 women - ? -6hrs;
m2=21;d2=?;h2=6;
But in the question 3 Women work =2 men work..==> 3w=2m
m2=21=7(3 women)=7(2men)=14men
m2=14;
W=mdh==>m1*d1*h1=m2*d2*h2
15*21*8=14*d2*6
if we calculate the answer we will get d2=30 days

Q27. A man spends half of his salary on household expenses, 1/4th for
rent, 1/5th for travel expenses; the man deposits the rest in a bank. If his
monthly deposits in the bank amount 50, what is his monthly salary?
Ans: let x be a per month salary.
spend on household x/2 (x is total salary).......(1)
spend on house rent x/4 .........(2)
spend on travel x/5 .......(3)
finaly he pay deposit in bank is 50.........(4)
so addition of above 4 equation is equal to total salary of man( ie x )
x = (x/2+x/4+x/5+50)
x = (19x+1000)/20
x = 1000

Q28. Azim is taller than Bikram who is taller than Chitra. Daniel is taller

Q 29: Lucia is a wonderful grandmother. Her age is between 50 and 70.

Each of her sons has as many sons as they have brothers. Their combined
number gives Lucias age. What is the age?
Ans: The clue to answer this question is the information that the number of children and
number of brothers are equal. Hence, we have to find the nearest square number to 50 and
70 and then work out the answer. 72 are nearer to 50. We can now assume 7+1=8 as
number of children of Lucia and each of them have seven children of their own making a
total 56. Hence the age of Lucia is 8 + 56 = 64 years.

Q31: There is a merry-go-round race going on. One person says, 1/3 of those in
front of me and 3/4 of those behind me, give the total number of children in the
race. Then the number of children took part in the race?
Ans: say there are x number of person in the race.
The child stating this excluding him there are (x-1) children (Here the catch is the Those)
so 1/3(x-1)+3/4(x-1)=x
calculating x=13

Q32: If x/y=4 and y is not 0 what % of x is 2x-y

Ans:

Q33: Successive discounts of 20% and 15% are equal to a single discount
of
Ans: Suppose Cost Price is RS. 100
then 20% discount means Selling Price is RS.80
but again on this price there's a dicount of 15%
therefore the final selling price is 80-(80*15)/100=RS.68
therefore total dicount = ((CP-SP)*100)/CP=32%

Q34: If a=2/3b , b=2/3c, and c=2/3d what part of d is b?

Ans: a = 2b/3, b= 2c/3 , and c = 2d/3
Then d = 3c/2
But c = 3b/2
Hence d = (3/2)*(3/2)b
Then d = (9/4)b
==> b = (4/9)d
In other words, 4/9 of d is b

Q35: A quantity of tea is sold at Rs. 5.75 per kilogram. The total gain by selling
the tea at this rate is Rs. 60. Find the quantity of tea being sold if a profit of 15%
is made on the deal.
Ans: say total cost price of tea is x.
then total profit at a rate of 15% is=(15x/100)
according to question,
15x/100=60
so x=400
c.p of the tea is 400.so total selling price will be=(400+60)=460
so the quantity of the tea will be=(460/5.75)=80kg.

Q36: Three pipes A,B and C are attached to a tank. A and B can fill it in 20
and 30 minutes respectively while C can empty it in 15 minutes. If A,B and
C are kept open successively for 1 minute each, how soon will the tank be
filled?
Ans: In one minute pipe A and B will fill = 1/20 +1/30
In one minute pipe A, B and C will fill = 1/20 +1/30 - 1/15 = 1/60
Let the number intervals of three minutes be x
x/60 +1/20 +1/30 = 1
x + 5 = 60
x = 55
Time needed to fill the tank completely is = 55*3 + 2 = 167 minutes.

Q39: Sanjay & Sunil enters into a partnership. Sanjay invests Rs. 2000 and Sunil
Rs. 3000. After 6 months, Sunil withdrew from business. At end of the year, profit
was Rs. 4200. How much would Sunil get out of this profit.
Ans: the ratio in which profit is shared is
One persons (Investment X Time) : Another persons (Investment X Time)
Therefore the ratio in which Sanjay & Sunil would share their profit is2000 (12) : 3000 (6) = 4:3
Hence Sunil receives (3/7)*4200 = Rs. 1800
Q40: A pig pursues a cat and takes 10 leaps for every 12 leaps of the cat, but 8
leaps of the pig are equal to 18 leaps of the cat. Compare the speed of pig & cat.
Ans: 8 leaps of the pig = 18 leaps of the cat = x say
= x/18
In same time pig takes 10 leaps and cat 12 leaps
Distance covered by pig in the same time = 10 x/8
Distance covered by cat in same time= 12 x/18
Ratio of speed= 10/8 : 12/18 =15/18

1 leap of pig = x/8 ; 1 leap of cat

Q41: The price of T.V set is increased by 25 % of cost price and then
decreased by 40% of the new price. On selling, the loss for the dealer was
Rs.5,000 . At what price was the T.V sold.
Ans: Final difference % = 25-40-(25*45/100)= -25 %.
So if 25 % = 5,000 then 100 % = 20,000.
C.P = 20,000
S.P = 20,000 - 5,000= 15,000
