Mrs. Davis
Grade Reading
Welcome
Welcome to your seventh grade Reading
class. I have planned many activities for this
school year that I hope will prove to be fun,
exciting, and educational. Please take a
moment to read through this syllabus to
familiarize yourself with how our classroom
will work this year. We will hit the ground
running, so be ready!
Course Description
According to Texas Essential Knowledge and
Skills for 7th Grade English Language Arts
and Reading, each student must demonstrate a
level of proficiency in the following areas:
reading, writing, listening, viewing, and
speaking.
This course will include a variety of activities
that are designed to strengthen each of these
skill areas. You will have an opportunity to
demonstrate your ability in these areas on the
State of Texas Assessment of Academic
Readiness (STAAR) test in Reading.
Classroom instruction and activities will
help you continue to grow in your areas of
strength and support you in improving upon
your areas of weakness.

Assessment Information
Class Work & Homework: We will complete several activities in class, but you will be
required to complete some assignments on your own time, including reading outside of
class. This work is very important as it will prepare you for the projects and other
assignments that you will be required to complete throughout the year. Failure to
complete these activities and reading assignments will have a negative effect on your
overall grade.
Reading Projects: You will be required to complete outside reading projects at various
times throughout the year. Each project will reflect your reading and ability to apply the
standards being practiced in class.
Tests: I reserve the right to test you on any material presented in class, assigned for
homework, or covered in the textbook or novels being studied. You will have advance
notice so you may have time to prepare.
For any questions or if needing clarification, please refer to the Secondary Grading and Reporting
Guidelines provided by Cleburne ISD.
