Introduction
• Educator will divide the learners into groups of 4 or 6, give each group a topic
• Each group will be given a will browse the websites for information and use
the expected resources to research about a given topic.

Topics
a) Explain how electricity is made from different source.
b) Identify the advantages and the disadvantage of using the source of
energy to generate electricity.
c) Suggest ideas and ways on what can be done to solve the problem of
scarcity of energy fuels in SA.
d) Discuss how pollution from generation of electricity cause global warming.
e) Suggest ways on what can be done to minimize global warming.

Body
Create a poster showing different ways that can be done to save electricity in our
homes. Download pictures from the web and type the text on the Word processor

Conclusion

Present the poster to the class

Activity 2
HSS LO1 AS1
In this topic you will be dealing with different aspects of global warming. You will research
the causes, effects and what humans need to do to prevent our planet from being damaged
further. Lastly who has been affected by global warming. You will learn how to brainstorm,
organize information, plan, and how to use PowerPoint to present information.
Introduction
You have been assigned by the minister to research the impact and effects of global
warming in your specific area about a company that pollutes the air that what they are
doing is harming the environment. There are houses and schools around that company. Do
a PowerPoint presentation in which you explain the effects of global warming.

The Task
Each group is assigned four roles:
1. Nature conservationist
2. Entrepreneur
3. Meteorologist
With your group do on-line research and create a ten minute PowerPoint presentation
describing whether you're staying or going and why.
The Body
1 – 2 weeks

Decide which group member will play each role.


Nature conservationist
You have a big love for nature and concerned about nature, water conserving,
plants, animals and the environment and anything to do with the sea and the
creatures who live in its watery. They enjoy working with people and animals and
spend a great deal of their time studying the ways of animals in their natural
habitats.

Entrepreneur

You a running a business and you have received a letter from the minister that you
must close you company because the community has complained about the fumes
and the smoke that is coming from your company.

Meteorologist

You will do an analysis of weather-related aspects of accidents and climate changes.


You will prepare a detailed written factual reports of the facts, conditions, and
circumstances pertaining to the weather in relation to global warming.
Individually follow links below to learn about your assigned topic. Take notes
on your findings.

As a group discuss your findings. Do this by creating a list of Pros and Cons with
each member of the group contributing to the list.

Conclusion
As a group create a ten minute PowerPoint presentation to show the class why you
have decided to stay or go.
Present PowerPoint to class.

ASSESSMENT
Here you will be assessed as a group. Each group member must contribute to the task. A
Common mark will be given for the group.

Life Orientation

Case study

The treatment Action Campaign, which is an organization fighting for the right of
people living with HIV/AIDS, took the Minister of Health to court to change the
government’s policy to provide for the supply of antiretroviral treatment to people
living with HIV/Aids. They argued that the lack of implementation was
unconstitional since we all have the right to life and adequate healthcare. The
Constitutional Court agreed with that argument and its judgment stated that poor
and imprisoned South Africans we entitled to live saving medication. This
judgment forced the government to start providing antiretroviral treatment to
people living with HIV/Aids.

Introduction
1. List human right that you know.
2. 2. Walk around your school ground and list any problems that you see
regarding discrimination and human rights.

Body
Interview a person who has any kind of special need or disability, or is living with
AIDS/HIV, or being discriminated against. Ask them the following questions:

a) What do you find most difficult about your situation?


b) What can ordinary people do to make a difference in your experience of life?
c) What are your hopes and dreams?
d) What makes you happy?

Conclusion
Use the insight you gained in the interview to prepare a presentation, drama or
role- play to show the class what can we do to make life better for people who are
differently abled. Type out the information you have gather on Word.
