Strategy Description:
Howard Gardner was one of the proponents of labeling the way that we
learn best. His theory of Multiple Intelligences helps us to understand
the different areas of strengths and ways that we learn best. These
areas include: musical-rhythmic, visual-spatial, verbal-linguistic,
logical-mathematical, bodily- kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal,
and naturalistic. As a class, we will talk about what these mean and
self-assess where we think we are. Then we will take an inventory quiz
to see if what we think lines up with what we are. I believe in
celebrating these ways that we learn and using them to our benefit.
For this specific lesson, students will draw back to the beginning of the
year and create a product that aligns with his/her main learning style.
Example: A student who is musical-rhythmic might write a song or rap
about their childhood using the vocabulary and verb conjugations. A
student who is interpersonal might create a recorded TV news
interview where someone asks them questions about their childhood
and they respond using the vocabulary and verb conjugations. A
student who is visual-spatial might create a book of drawings that
illustrate their childhood and is accompanied by verbal or written
sentences using the vocabulary and verb conjugations. A student who
is verbal-linguistic might write a story about their childhood using the
vocabulary and verb conjugations.
Students will be given the chance to brainstorm by themselves and
with one another to decide on the format in which they will present
their product.

You must use the imperfect tense to discuss your childhood pastime activities throughout
your entire project. The project consists of 3 components: a visual, a written, and an oral
component. You will choose the way that you will create you project and how it will look
and be presented according to your main learning style (think back to our Multiple
Intelligences inventory from the beginning of the school year). You must include a
minimum of 15 events from your childhood using appropriate vocabulary and the verb
conjugations.
