Whenwearespeakingaboutdifferentformsofgovernanceaquestionthatisoftenaskedhappenstobewhatisthe
differencebetweendemocracyandnondemocracy.Withthebeginningofcivilization,peoplebegantofeeltheneed
ofapropersystemtoberuledby.Withthisneedcamevariouspoliticalsystemsasseemedfitbythepeopleofthe
time. These were created with the needs and requirements of the people living in those respective countries at the
time.Democracyandnondemocracyaretwosuchformsofgovernancethatcameabout.

WhatisDemocracy?
Democracycanbedefinedasagovernmentofthemasses.Inthiscase,agroupofindividualswhoareelectedbythe
peoplethemselvesrulethecountryandtherebysupplytherulesthateverycitizeninthecountrymustabideby.The
attitudeofademocrattowardlawandregulationsissuchthathebelievesthatthewillofthemajoritymustregulate
regardlessofwhetheritbegovernedbypassionorbebasedupondeliberation,impulseandprejudice,withoutregard
toconsequencesorrestraint.Ademocratsattitudetowardspropertyissimilartothatofacommunistasademocrat
toodoesnotbelieveintheindividualownershipofproperty.Anegativetraitofdemocracyisthatindividualrights
pronetobetrampleddownbythemajorityasthereisnolawtopreventitfromdoingso.

WhatisNonDemocracy?
Nondemocracy can be simply called as opposed to democracy. However, it is not always associated with anti
egalitarianism.Therearemanypoliticalsystemsthatcanbecategorizedundernondemocracy,aristocracy,absolute
monarchy,fascism,theocracyandguardianshipbeingtheforemostofthem.Amongthemainnamesassociatedwith

It was Plutos belief that democratic societies were truly anarchic and that such societies lacked internal unity. He
furtherbelievedthatinallowingdemocracy,thecitizensfollowedtheirownimpulsesinsteadofworkingtowardthe
commongoodwhilelargerdemocraciesarenotcapableofhavingasufficientnumberofcitizensvoicesheardandas
a result that they are run by fools. Friedrich Nietzsche, on the other hand, saw democracy as connected with
ChristianitywhileCharlesMaurrasbelievedthatademocracyopposedhistheoryofPolitiqueNaturelle.

WhatisthedifferencebetweenDemocracyandNonDemocracy?
Fromthenamesitself,thedifferenceisquiteapparent.However,itmaynotbeasclearastohowandwhytheydiffer.
Therearevariouswaysinwhichthiscanbeexplained.
Democracybelievesinagovernmentofthepeopleforthepeople.Nondemocracyiscompletelyagainstthisidea.
Inademocraticstate,thepeoplecanchoosetheirleader.Theyarealsoentitledtohavetheirsayinthelegislationof
thestate.Inanondemocraticstate,thepeoplecannotchoosetheirleadersandneitherdotheyhaveasayinthe
legislationoftheland.
Democracyisaspecifickindofgovernment.Manygovernmentsystemsfallundertheumbrellaofnondemocracy.
