Template coding form: Manual for monitoring food marketing to children

Instructions for filling in the coding form (see also step 5 of the Manual)

Select the appropriate coding form (worksheet); TV, print, food companies' websites, product packaging, outdoor or in-school.
The core variables to be coded appear as column headings.
Instructions on how to code each core variable are in the 'notes' in the variable heading cell. Click or hover over the cell to see
Some core variables contain predefined codes or subcategories. The worksheet named 'Core variables and codes' includes all
If the core variable contains predefined codes, these also appear in a drop-down list when a cell is selected under that variable
Some core variables are optional. If a core variable is not to be coded, either delete the column from the template form or leave

Fill in the 'data source and date' fields at the top of the form.
A horizontal row in the coding form should be used for each example of marketing communications.
Work from left to right, and enter the relevant information under each core variable heading (column).
The coding forms can be adapted if necessary.
