Description
Siemens has designed the full 3TF line
to meet or exceed all worldwide standards and conventions. The Siemens
3TF contactor series provides state of
the art motor control with 27 frames
sizes from 9 amperes to 820 amperes.
The 3TF series also includes a full
assortment of Accessories assuring
you will always have the right product
for your application.
The Siemens 3TF contactor series
feature the patented arc quenching
system that diverts arcs away from
contact surfaces and into splitter plates
in the arc chute. The arc quenching
system allows larger cooler operation
up to 1000 V. Cadmium free tin oxide
contacts and the arc quenching system
provides inrush current capacity u p to
1200/0 FLA - required by today's high
efficiency motors. The 3TF contactor
low mass/short stroke design reduces
contact bounce to less than t w o miliseconds, further extending contact life.
The Siemens 3TF Series is supplied
with worldwide specified and accepted
labelling showing all wor!dwide ratings
and approvals. For applications requiring NEMA on labelling, Siemens offers
you a choice of labelling to meet these
requirements. For Siemens motor
control products that meet all
NEMAIEEMAC standards and conventions refer to "NEMA ands MAX Horse

SGDM Hoist Unit Relay

Function Description
The hoist unit relay has been developed for polechanging, sliding rotor hoist moton from variant 160
onwards. It is a double function relay for starting
and braking.
1. Startlng

The relay ensures that the motor is always started

via the winding with the higher number of poles. This
makes it possrole to optimize the forces necessaryfor
axial rotor displacement and. therefore. to lirnft the
cment required for this purpose: :he switchgear and
the electrical installation can, therefore, be rated more
economically. It is important that. when switching
over to the winding with the lower number of ooles.
this is switched cn before the winding with the higher
number of poles is switched off.
2 Braking
An important factor lor the service life of brake lining
is the s ~ e atdwhlch braking begins. The speed rat&
is used as a quadratic vaiue for the calculath d the
service life of the brakes.
For pole-changing hoist motors with a sDeed ratio of
1:6 this means that. wnen braking at the lowef s p e d .
the servlce life of the brake linings is 36 times longer
than that obtained when braking at the highcr speed.
The hoist unit relay ensures that the hoist motor is
always braked electricaily whm it Is switched from
the main hoist speed to the creep hoist soeed. This
can be taken into account when calculating the
brakes, above all lor larger hoist unit motors.

3. Function
3.1 Starting
When the appropriate push-button on thfj control
pendant is pressed to the fmt st-, the direction of
movement (creep llfilng or u6ep lawenng)h switchbd
on without time lag. If the push-buRm is pressed directly to the second step. the crew liftingspeed is
switched on f i t and then. after appcon 0.4 semfds.
the main lifting speed. The time lag is preset as D fixed
value.

!-

3.2 Braking
When switching back from the seconds;\?pcfbectty to
0.the creep lifting speed is automalicalty switched on
for approx. 0.5 seconds. This timelag. too. is preset as
a iixed value.
During the braking phase. it is pw3ible toreverse the
direction of rotation of the motor. AA the m?3sary
interlocksere integrated into the relay.
4. App(icatkm afui part numbem
The brakes for pote-changing hoist motor. KBK 16W

DGSIDGS-G Geared Limit Switches

Description and Instructions

r I I ~ . uus

tubs-ti)geared limit switch

is a precision limit switch suitable for

use on hoist units, sliding gates, lifting
platforms, transfer carriages, etc.
Drive units up to 5.5 kW can be switched
off using different switching elements.
Higher capacity drive units are indirectly
switched off via contactors.
On the DH hoist unit, the DGS is fitted
in an electrical equipment casing (for
details, see DH Hoist Unit Operating
Instructions, publication 206 346 44,
720 IS 813).
The DGS-G is a DGS geared limit
switch fitted in a light-metal cast
casing.
All contacts on the DGS can be assigned to any function. Every DGS is
equipped with a mechanical counter.
The difference in counter readings
can be used to determine the operating time of the equipment concerned.
When the DGS is used as an emergency and heavy-duty limit switch, the
switching elements must be set in
such a way that the heavy-duty limit
switch operates first and then the
emergency limit switch. Reversal in
the opposite direction is possible.
If required. the DGS can be factoryfitted or retrofitted with a pulse generator. The toothed wheel required for
puise generation is fitted as standard
in every DGS.

2. Setting instructions
The following tools are required for
setting the DGS:
One 4 mm screwdriver and one 6 mm

of shaft A. (Important for further
setting.)
2.2 Slacken fastening screws 2 by
approx. 2 turns.
2.3 Turn adjusting screw 16 until
adjusting marker 3 and white rnarker 4 are in line on the cam wheel
(Figs. 2 and 3).
2.4 Turn adjusting screw 1A until
plunger 5 no longer protrudes from
the bottom of switching element 6.
2.5 Then turn screw 1A i n the direction of rotation of shaft A (see
point 2.1) until plunger 5 and
adjusting marker 7 are level (Fig. 4).
In this position, the normally closed
contacts of switching element S1
are open.

5. Pulse generator
The pulse generator supplies pulses
for the counter as a function of the
revolutions of the DGS drive shaft.
The pulse signals at the output of the
pulse generator can be used for
- counting the revolutions
- identifying the direction of rotation
- position measurement
- speed measurement
The pulse generator sends two pulse
signals "A" and "6:' at a rate of 30 pulses per revolution of the drive shaft.
By shifting the phase of the two signals by half a pulse width, the direction of rotation can be evaluated electronically. It is also possible here to
double or quadruple the number of
pulses in the evaluator so that a resolution of 60 or 120 pulses/revolution
can be obtained.
In addition, 1 zero pulse is generated
for every revolution of the drive shaft.
This signal cam be used for counting

the revolutions or for correcting the

pulse count if transmission errors
OCCU r.

positioning computer, the pulse generator can be used as an actual value
generator for automatic positioning
and position display. and in conjunction
with the Dematik' GLC as an automatic
synchronizer for pole-changing
asynchronous motors.

IMPORTANT:
Wire up all connections including
screening, otherwise there is a danger
of short circuiting.
-

The screening is not connected to the

pulse generator. For interference
suppression, the screening can be
connected to the PE of the pulse
evaluator.
