Upflow (D = Downflow)
T Range air conditioning units incorporate all of the energy/cost saving benefits for
which Denco products are renowned. These include:
Ambicool (Glycol freecooling system) - "F" Version
(not available on models 48 83)
This substantially reduces annual energy consumption, and
consequently costs, by exploiting low average ambient
temperatures to provide partial or full freecooling. It is very
unusual to experience the design summer ambient for any
length of time, and external temperatures are generally
considerably less for much of the year. This allows the
drycooler to produce glycol at lower temperatures.
When the glycol is colder than the room air, it is passed
through the economy coil before reaching the condenser,
picking up some heat directly from the room rather than via
the refrigeration system. Under conditions such as this, the
compressor run time is reduced, thereby saving energy. As
an example, some degree of freecooling is usually
available for 70% of the year in northern Europe, giving
very substantial running cost savings.
Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) - "V" Option
This provides various compressor options for efficient partload performance, with exceptional economy.
Full Cooling Load
Both compressors running to circulate the full design
refrigerant flow in order to achieve specified maximum
cooling capacity. The scroll compressor coefficient of
performance (COP) is typically 3.5.
Part Load Operation
Lead compressor only running to circulate approximately
60% of the refrigerant flow. Evaporator and condenser are
both oversized under this condition, causing increase in
suction pressure and a reduction in discharge pressure.
Resultant part-load COP increases to typically 5.0.
Secondary benefits include reduced temperature swing and
increased compressor reliability caused by reduced cycling
and an optional two-stage high-pressure trip. Lower inrush
current and inbuilt redundancy is also provided by dual
compressors and reduced humidifier run time due to the
very high sensible heat ratio achieved at the higher
evaporating temperatures. Payback period is typically less
than one year.

The T Range of air conditioning units has been designed to be completely front
access for service/maintenance via the front hinged/removable doors. Therefore, no
allowance for access to the ends or back is necessary, although the end panels can
be removed in-situ if required.
Guide Specification
Cabinet
The cabinets shall be attractively designed having bevelled corners with flush fitting
curved panels. Units shall have a rigid frame, manufactured from non corroding
Aluzink, with hinged curved front panel(s) to provide access for installation and
servicing. Panels shall be lined with class "O" non eroding insulation material with
both thermal and acoustic properties. External panels shall be manufactured from
pre-coated steel, colour Grey (RAL number 7024).
Cooling Coil
The coils shall be multi row constructed from 3/8" O/D copper tubes with
mechanically bonded aluminium fins. Direct expansion coils shall have internal
grooving for optimum heat transfer. The coil face area shall be maximised to ensure
high sensible heat ratio and low airside pressure drop, thereby minimising fan power
and noise level. A stainless steel drain tray shall be included to ensure efficient
removal of the condensate, via a factory fitted trap.
-
DX: Units shall have one, two or four refrigeration circuits (dependent upon
model), inclusive of liquid distributor, expansion valve, solenoid valve, sight glass
and filter drier, and these components shall be housed in the cabinet.
C: Units shall be fitted with a modulating 3 way valve having manual override
facility with water pressure / temperature test points, and these components shall
be housed in the cabinet.
Fans
T Range models 3 to 5 shall be fitted with one fan, which shall be single inlet
backward curved centrifugal, and shall be direct driven by an integral motor. A
differential pressure switch shall be fitted to monitor airflow, failure of which shall
result in an alarm and automatic disabling of all functions. The fan motor shall be
single speed, the final airflow therefore depending on exact static pressure
requirements.
T Range models 8 to 42 shall be fitted with one, two or three fans, whilst models 48
to 83 shall be fitted with four or six fans, depending on unit size. The fans shall be
double inlet, double width with forward curved impeller, and shall be direct driven by
an integral motor. A differential pressure switch (8-42) and current monitoring relay
(48-83) shall be fitted to monitor airflow, failure of which shall result in an alarm and
automatic disabling of all functions. Fan motors shall be three speed. HIGH or
MEDIUM speed shall be factory selected, depending on airflow and static pressure
requirement, and LOW speed shall be assigned for dehumidification mode.
Guide Specification
Electric Heaters
Electric heaters shall have rigid Incoloy sheathed elements with stainless steel
finning balanced over three phases and rated to operate at black heat. Control shall
be in one or two stages, each stage being protected by a high temperature safety
cut-out.
Filtration
The filters shall have an efficiency of 30 % ASHRAE 52/76 Eurovent 4/5 arrestance
value 90 % (G4). They shall be fitted in the return air stream, held by quick release
retaining clips, and be accessible from the front of the unit. A differential pressure
switch shall be fitted which, through the alarm facility in the microprocessor
controller, shall indicate when the filters need changing.
Humidifier
The humidifier shall be of the electrode boiler type, located in the bottom of the unit.
Features shall include proportional steam output and microprocessor control with
alarms and diagnostic facilities. The control system shall allow the use of a wide
range of mains water conditions and optimise drain down frequency for maximum
operational economy.
Dehumidification
This shall be achieved by switching on a single stage of cooling and automatic
selection of low fan speed (models 8 to 42).
Guide Specification
Electrical Panel
The electrical switchgear shall be contained in a cubicle located in the top of the unit,
and shall include:
- Controller baseboard and modules (if applicable)
- MCB's and contactors for fans, heaters, humidifier and compressors as
appropriate
- MCB's for remote condensing units (if applicable)
- MCB's plus pressure operated on off switches for remote condensers (if
applicable)
Cabling shall be colour coded and numbered, and neatly run in trunking segregating
high and low voltages. All wiring shall comply with BS EN 60204 Part 1.
Microprocessor Controls
All units shall be fitted, as standard, with a C3-05 advanced microprocessor controls
system, designed by Denco. This shall provide maximum economy of operation, a
comprehensive intelligent alarm system and a wide range of information for
operators and service engineers. All information shall be presented in a user friendly
format with tamper proof setting up arrangements.
In addition to precise control of temperature and humidity, the system shall include
the following features:
- A liquid crystal semi - graphical display indicating unit function via icons,
displaying control conditions and historic logging of temperature and humidity
conditions.
- Coded security access for set point parameter adjustment
- Programmable stage delays, to minimise inrush currents
- A comprehensive alarm system. Alarms shall be memorised and displayed in the
order in which they occur in order to aid fault diagnosis
- Programmed set points and parameters shall be held in a non volatile memory,
therefore being safeguarded upon power failure
- Denco Net functions are a standard feature within the controller.
- Various third party communication and interface options are available which
connect direct to the C3-05 controller.

Connected Load Amps (CLA): worst case phase for components that can be selected to operate at any one time by the
automatic control system at maximum load conditions for each component, i.e. Compressors (based on saturated suction 10 C,
condensing 60 C), Humidifier (170 % Alarm Condition), Main Fans (100 % of rated kW), Condenser Fans (100 % of rated kW).

Plinth
For upflow units, a standard plinth is available that raises the Air Handling Unit
200mm (or 400mm) from the floor level to facilitate services entry. It is a plain
sheetmetal box supplied complete with gasket and fixing bolts, and finished to match
the Air Handling Unit.
Base Stand
When the Air Handling Unit is to be installed before the installation of a raised floor, a
matching Base Stand should be used to support it. This consists of a rigid frame of
6mm thick MS angle complete with adjustable feet. The upper face of the frame is
lined with 3mm semi hard gasket. When ordering, specify the nominal height
required, which normally will be the same as the overall height of the raised floor.
The feet have an adjustment of 25mm.
Filter Gauge
A dial type manometer can be installed to read the pressure drop across the filter to
give an accurate indication of filter condition.
27
Special Colours
Special Colours must be specified when ordering the Air Handling Unit (quote British
Standard number, RAL number, or other, if known). If more than one colour is
specified then state the colour of each panel.
Water Detection
Water Sensors, connected directly to the water detection module of the Air Handling
Unit microprocessor control system, are located in: - Condensate drain pan detecting undue water level.
- Underfloor water tape, supplied loose with 5 metres of cable.
When water is detected, the Air Handling Unit's alarm system is activated and
disables humidifier function.
Sump Pump
Where, due to location, it is not possible to gravity drain units, a sump pump can be
fitted to collect any condensate and pump it to the nearest convenient drain point
(maximum available pump head 5.7 metres). For units fitted with humidifiers, a larger
capacity sump pump is available to accommodate the additional discharge of hot
water during humidifier drain down cycles (maximum available pump head 7 metres).
Please note that when using a sump pump a minimum of a 200 mm high plinth is
required.
28
VRF System
To provide energy saving and thereby limit emission of greenhouse gases that
contribute to global warming, models 23 and above are supplied with the variable
refrigerant flow (VRF) compressor configuration. By applying these models to smaller
loads, even greater energy savings will be realised, due to the very high part load
efficiency.
Refrigerants
Alternative refrigerants R134a and R410A are available as standard options on
request.
Hand/Auto Switches
A hard wired switch assembly, fitted in the electrical control panel can be used as
manual override or as automatic control function, and is intended as an aid to
commissioning engineers.
Run Status
Run Status is achieved by volt free terminals, located in the electrical box, for remote
monitoring of the unit run (fans) operation.
29
Monitoring Display
The Monitoring Display can be connected to a network of C3-05 Controllers to
enable complete Air Handling Unit monitoring.
30
PCOWEB Interface
The pCOWeb Interface allows connection to TCP/IP and SNMP protocols on the
Ethernet standard and BACnet both on the Ethernet and EIA485 standards.
