DEDICTION

I dedicate this report to my friends and teacher I thank them very much to support me, not
only in preparing this report but in my personal life as well.
I also thanks to my teachers who are the guiding force for me and its their efforts and hard
work that showed me the right path of success and prosperity which would help me for my
entire life.
I also thank to all the persons who are directly or indirectly help me to prepare this report. I
hope this report will be useful and subject matter and knowledgeable for the people.

ABSTRACT
National Bank of Pakistan being a pioneer bank to organize Pakistans financial affairs. Since
1949, has consistently changed the competitive landscape particularly in the financial sector.
NBP is a listed public sector organization as well as a governments agent, which has to
compete with big private entities in terms of technology, people and customer services, to
ensure decisive market share of business and continue to maintain and improve its image at
home and abroad.

To remain in active banking market competition, the NBP broadens and upgrades its human
resource base to meet the challenges of every day changing environment. To achieve a
meaningful success, the bank has been taking a number of decisive initiatives to groom its
HR with focus on the employee motivation through effective programs. Indeed, the current
successful position of the NBP is the result of its policies and satisfied employees. The credit
of its success goes to its meaningful and effective HR management efforts towards the
recruitment, selection, training, motivation and development of its employees. NBP is the
largest Pakistani bank with a widespread national network of offices and branches as well as
a strategically oriented international presence. Besides being a commercial bank, it is
Government of Pakistans agent as well as a direct subordinate establishment of the State
Bank of Pakistan. It has been doing well in all its functions. However, on the basis of analysis
and findings certain recommendations have been presented in this report.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The preparation of internship report is my first experience and first step in practical life.
During stay in NBP and preparation of this report I have learn a lot form the experience
employee of the organization and this learning increase my practical experience that would
help me in the rest of my professional life after completion of my studies. During the period
of internship have learn a lot.
This report is a study carried out about the National Bank of Pakistan. The purpose of this
internship report is to present a true picture of the NBP organization, which may be beneficial
to the readers of the BBA (Hons) class who aspire to be a part of the NBP in particular and
Human Resource Managers in general. The first chapter is related to introduction to the NBP,
the purpose of the preparation of this report. With the aim of presenting this report, the mode
and the source of data collection is given. The chapter also indicates the limitations that
existed in collection of necessary data.
Chapter two includes the historical background of the bank and its creation. Also, it presents
the banks general and financial information, its function, objectives, the banks core values
are given in this chapter. It discusses the corporate profile, which tabulates the board of
directors (BOD), auditors, audit committee, and registrars etc.
Chapter three covers the human resource management. A simple emphasis is laid on the
importance of the HR management and administration for any organization. It explains the
HR policies and practices of the NBP. In the HR function like recruitment and selection,
training and development, maintenance and motivation are discussed in sufficient detail. The
development function of the bank includes the analysis of the training and development
needs, training tools and how the bank evaluates the effectiveness of the training and
development. Motivation includes the performance appraisals, which is evaluated through
observation of the employee performance.

The last chapter consists of the recommendations and conclusion. The NBP is a successfully
functioning government bank. However, like other Pakistani organizations, it suffers from
man power, modern banking techniques etc. shortcomings. The recommendations which have

been presented, suggests means to modernize the NBP which will enable it to keep pace with
the fast moving banking environment.
The material to prepare this report is drawn from wide verity of sources, many person have
contributed his time, energy, ideas and suggestion for improving the work in this report. The
strength of this report is mostly collectively wisdom of NBP staff and my respected teachers.
