A. Reflection Papers (3)


Task: You will write a one or two-page reflection paper based on a unit taken.
Guidelines For Writing A Reflection Paper
When you write a reflection paper you may discuss about:
your perceptions of the content of the course.
experiences, ideas, and observations you have had, and how they relate to the
course or topic.
questions you have and conclusions you have drawn.
what you found confusing, inspiring, difficult, interesting (and why).
possibilities, speculations, hypotheses, or solutions.
comparisons and connections between what you are learning and (a) your
prior knowledge and experience; (b) what you know from other courses or
disciplines.
how new ideas challenge what you already know.
what you need to explore next in terms of thoughts and actions.
how the new learnings will be of help to

B. Interview of a Reading Teacher
Tasks:
1. You will conduct an interview with a reading teacher. The interview should elicit
information about the teachers view of the reading process. (Your interview guide
will be based on UNIT II: PERSPECTIVES ON THE READING PROCESS
2. Then you will transcribe, synthesize, and analyze the interview. It should follow the
following format:

Information about the teacher (grade level s/he is handling; degree; subject that
s/he is handling; no. of years that s/he is teaching)
- Presentation of the synthesis and analysis of the interview
- Conclusions
3. Length of report: 900- 1000 words.

C. Mini-Case Study
Tasks:
1. Choose a case (e.g., your sibling, neighbor, relatives).
2. Observe and then describe the case reading acquisition and performance in any of
the following:
Physiological development
- Physical health, vision, hearing, brain dominance
Cognitive development
- Learning styles (global or analytic), intelligence, multiple intelligence
Oral language development
- Use of language; vocabulary knowledge and comprehension in home language
and second language; home language vs second language reading
Psychosocial development
- Personality traits, self-concept, emotional problems, motivation, reading interests
3. Format of the report:
- Purpose of the mini-case study and description of the case
- Body of the report (method; results and discussion)
- Conclusions, recommendations
4. Length of the report: 900-1000 words.
