Please comment on how this activity will help you to achieve the Learning Outcomes as
IB CAS requirement?
For CAS, I will be taking Horse riding, or equestrian sport as my activity. Horse riding is one
of my favorite sport, which I really enjoy. I chose this activity not only because it is something I
like, but I have learned a lot since I began riding.

Undertaken new challenges

I have been taking riding lessons since I was in grade 5, which means that horse
riding is not new for me. Although I have been riding for more than 5 years now, there are
still challenges that I have to face, everytime I am riding. Horse riding is not just about
walking or simply pulling the rein, showing the horse where to go, but it is about trying to
balance oneself on a partner, which is 10 times bigger, and has a mind of its own. It is like
multitasking; you have to be able to control the horse, push or kick, but with feelings, not
forgetting how we have to balance, and sit straight. Being away from home, I have not been
riding as much as I was before, and I have lost the stamina that I used to have from
practicing a lot. These are why the challenges will still be present, because it is not easy
controlling something that has a mind of its own.

Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities

For this activity, I will show perseverance and commitment as I will have to do the
activity not just through CAS, but later on after cas continuing the activity to improve and
learn from it, because I have been riding for more than 5 years, and I think that it would be
just a waste if I just stop doing the activity, looking at the skills that I have from practicing. I
will show commitment as I ride, I will give all my effort to be able to improve, and gain back
my stamina.

I will increase my awareness of my strengths and areas for growth

In horse riding, the important factors are stamina, strength, technieques and the
ability to communicate (with the horse), or having the heart in riding. Stamina, strength
and techniques could improve from training or practices, but being able to communicate or
understanding the horse without making it refuse is a challenge. By taking this activity, I
will be able to be aware of what I did right, and also what I have been doing wrong, not
forgetting being able to understand more in riding with feeling through communicating
and understanding the horse better.

Engaged with the issues of global importance

Health has been an issue of global importance, because of the growth of technology.
Now delivery services are everywhere, elevators, escalators, all these technology which are
quite beneficial because they do not take much of peoples time, but then people become
lazy, and would choose to ride elevators instead of walking, or getting a delivery service,
instead of going out for a meal. This causes some people to be less fit, and healthy. By
taking riding lessons every week, I will be able to work on becoming fitter, and will engage
the issue of global importance.

Considered the ethical implications of their actions

In this activity, I will consider the ethical and dimplicatons of my action by showing
respect and ethics towards the different people who are involved in the activity, or in the
community of the activity, such as the trainers, the grooms, staff, and also the visitors or
people who are riding as I am having my lesson.

Developed new skills

Progressing in the activity, I will be improving my riding skills, such as balancing,
sitting better, and also making the movements more efficiently. By improving, this means
that I will learn and develop new skills.
