Donetha Groover

Perspectives

Stop! Reflection Time

Once upon a time there were two girls who had a dream. All they wanted to do was teach.
However, before they could do so they had to make it through a gauntlet of challenges. This is
the story of how they made it through two of these challenges.
As our story opens our heroines, Amanda and Donetha, were enjoying a respite from the
ongoing challenges thrown onto their path. That was soon to change as they were told by the
mystical master teacher that they would have to teach two lessons to a room filled mostly with
math goblins. Their subjects? One lesson on animal hybrids, and another on transmutation
and alchemy. How hard could it be? they thought.
Our plucky heroines decided that for the first lesson, on animal hybridization, Amanda would
create an activity while Donetha did the teaching. For the lesson on alchemy they would do a
switcheroo and Donetha would do the activity while Amanda did the teaching. If they were
being honest it worked out this way because for the conjuring of the first lesson Amanda had
come down with a witchs curse and felt less than up to the full challenge.
Most of the first lesson went really well. The goblins really enjoyed the newfangled
technology that allowed everyone to give answers through the power of the internet. More time
would have been appreciated in order to give a more thorough education in hybrids and
speciation. Possibly there should be a reworking of the engagement and have groups working
on different animals, then sharing their findings.
With the first leg of the challenge past, it was time to start looking at the second half of the
challenge. This lesson was to be about alchemy and transmutation. But how to engage the
goblins and make it understandable? This question left our protagonists scratching their heads.
Finally Amanda decided on doing a magic trick and Donetha decided on having the goblins
create slime. Things went swimmingly along. Once again, however more time would be needed
to implement this lesson with real, human students.
Overall, Amanda and Donetha passed this challenge with flying colors (in this author's
humble opinion). This is not the last challenge these champions of education will face, but they
are prepared to face down the foe and slay the dragon.
