Grammar and Punctuation


Begin to read with fluency and expression, taking some notice of punctuation, including speech marks.
Read and respond to question words, e.g. what, where, when, who, why.

Extend the range of common words recognised on sight.
Use phonics as the main method of tackling unfamiliar words.
Make simple inferences from the words on the page, e.g. about feelings

Number
Count, read and write numbers to at least 100 and back again
Count up to 100 objects, e.g. beads on a bead bar
Find 1 or 10 more/less than any two-digit number
Say a number between any given neighbouring pairs of multiples of 10, e.g. 40 and 50
Place a two-digit number on a number line marked off in multiples of ten
Geometry
Sort, name, describe, visualise and draw 2D shapes (e.g. squares, rectangles, circles, regular and irregular
pentagons and hexagons) referring to their properties; recognise common 2D shapes in different positions and
orientations
Sort, name, describe and make 3D shapes (e.g. cubes, cuboids, cones, cylinders, spheres and pyramids)

Physical Education
During the first unit of inquiry, students in Physical Education will be involved in Adventure Based Learning with
a focus on the learner profile and team work. Students will be actively engaged in a range of activities that will
encourage them to get to know each other, develop confidence and improve gross motor skills associated with
a range of games.
