Veg Vs. Non-Veg.Does it make any Difference?

Hi.
Some things in life are so obvious, but we humans get confused due to various
unscientific & illogical opinions.
Let us consider the differentiation between Veg Vs. Non-Veg. It is like differentiating
between day & night where there cant be any gray area or need for a second opinion.
I really thank you for your precious time to read this book. It will not take more than
around 20 minutes out of your entire life! I promise you that this little time invested
will reward you with a new way of thinking & will add value to your life & also of
others. We will analyse & understand Veg Vs. Non-Veg & at the end I will leave it
upon you to decide that which is a better way of living?
In my opinion only Vegetarian is the best way of living. If you are already a
Vegetarian then this book will help you to be firm & constant on your approach. You
will get scientific & logical reasoning to support your thoughts, which you can share
with others through this book. If you are also a Non-Vegetarian then I am sure that
this book will make you think that Vegetarian life is a better life. If you read it with
open mind & then apply your own judgment after going through its all contents; then
you will definitely like to change to Vegetarian. I will also request you to share this
book with others so that even they get the opportunity to learn the same.
The living creatures falling under Veg & Non-Veg category include both Food &
Non-Food items. Hence throughout this book we will use a common term goods for
them. It represents all consumable items falling under both food & non-food
categories as applicable to respective form of life i.e. living creatures used for Veg &
Non-Veg items.
So lets start.

Veg Vs. Non-Veg.Does it make any Difference?

Lets first define the terms Veg & Non-Veg:

Veg:
For food it mainly includes all vegetables like fruits etc...For non-food category lets
take clothes as example. The clothes, say which are made out of cotton, come under
this category. There can be other consumables like perfumes, oil & other accessories
etcmade out of Veg goods.
Those who consume only Veg goods are called Vegetarians
Non-Veg:
For food it simply means any food other than Veg food. It mainly includes food made
out of animals, birds etcIn non-food category say clothes; it includes clothes where
animals / birds skin or wings etc. are used. There can also be other consumables like
perfumes, oil & other accessories etccontaining Non-Veg goods.
Those who consume only / also Non-Veg goods are called Non-Vegetarians
This was the simplest way of describing Veg goods & Non-Veg goods. Now let us
understand the same scientifically:
The maximum senses of living creatures can be five in the order of to touch, to taste,
to smell, to see & to hear. In addition to that there may be powers to speak, think,
walk, hold things etcdepending on the body structure of various forms.
Both the Veg & Non-Veg goods are living creatures. But then what differentiate them
with each other are the senses & other powers gifted to them by nature within the
given form of life. The common life for each of them is their individual SOUL but the
un-common form is due to the BODY STRUCTURE they have in their current form
of life!
Life of Veg:
The life of Veg goods is much limited i.e. they have very limited senses & powers to
enjoy while they are alive. They have a body just with the touch sense i.e. the body
itself, within which the soul survives.
Thus the body structure of life of Veg goods does not have following:
They cant Taste, Smell, See & Hear.
They do not have powers to Think, Speak etc
They also do not have separate body parts like Hands, Legs etc
3

Veg Vs. Non-Veg.Does it make any Difference?

Life of Non-Veg:
The life of Non-Veg goods is much more powerful along-with higher senses than Veg
goods.
Life of Non-Veg goods can enjoy following while they are alive (as applicable):
They can Taste, Smell, See & Hear.
They have powers to Think, Speak etc
They have various body parts like Wings, Legs, Hands etc
Now as we know that when some one is born with physical disabilities then we have
got various terms to name them e.g. the one who cant speak is called as Dumb; the
one who cant hear is called as Deaf etc.
So, do you think these terms are of any use to life of Veg goods? Obviously No, bcoz
as designed by nature they anyway do not have all these senses & powers.
Now can these terms be applied to life of Non-Veg goods? Obviously Yes, bcoz as
designed by nature they are supposed to have all these senses & powers. So even the
life of Non-Veg goods can be Dumb, Deaf etc. just like we humans if they are born
handicapped or may be out of accident.

Veg Vs. Non-Veg.Does it make any Difference?

We have already discussed the difference between the life of Veg goods Vs. Non-Veg
goods.
Now lets discuss the difference between the death of Veg goods Vs. Non-Veg goods.
Anything that is alive has to die one day. Anything that dies, takes re-birth in some
other form of life & so on.
What does this mean?
This simply means that actual life i.e. the soul takes shelter within a particular form of
life for the life time of that body & then the soul goes out of it i.e. Death for that body
& then gets inside some other body i.e. Birth for a new form of life. This is the law of
life managed by nature & we humans do not have any power to change it unless we
opt for the best route, which is possible during the life as a human being that can
finally end with a state of soul which is termed as SALVATION / MOKSHA /
NIRVANA.
In the simple terms when the soul achieves salvation, it gets freedom from the
material form of life to survive. Thus there is no further birth-death attached to it. It is
various material forms of life that starts with birth & ends with death, into various
material planets. The soul is the driving force which keeps moving from one form of
material life to other, at various material planets, till it achieves salvation!!! Thus it
relieves the soul from the slavery of birth-death cycle forever & hence from all related
needs, formalities, worries, problems etcassociated with it.
Let us not get into deep discussion of the term salvation right now. So coming back to
the death of Veg goods & Non-Veg goods; lets see how they are different from each
other:
We all understand that for cooking food & for that matter for producing anything out
of Veg & Non-Veg goods, they have to die & thus their journey of life within that
particular body comes to an end bcoz we use them for our consumption.
Death of any life includes death of all powers attached to that life including its senses.
Death of Veg:
When life of Veg goods end then only those powers / senses die which are available
with Veg goods, which we have already discussed in the previous chapter.
Death of Non-Veg:
When the life of Non-Veg goods end all powers attached to their life also comes to an
end.

We can have a table as follows to describe the same:

To Think
To Speak
To Walk
The Body, i.e. the touch

as above including power

walk due to respective
body parts etc)

Veg Vs. Non-Veg.Does it make any Difference?

Lets discuss some of the very important areas.

1. Holidays for Vegetarians & Non-Vegetarians:
Some may claim to be a Vegetarian but subject to few holidays when they can have
Non-Veg food.
Similarly some are Non-Vegetarian & they see nothing wrong in that, however they
believe that on few particular days of the week or say few particular days in a year
they cant eat Non-Veg food; may be bcoz of some religious beliefs attached to those
special days. So this simply proves that there may be some religious beliefs or it may
be to respect the God in which they believe, so that they do not eat Non-Veg food
during those days. It indirectly means that on all other days they simply do not care
about whatever religious beliefs they follow on such specific days. It can be termed as
Holidays for Non-Veg. It is like making a fool of & doing injustice to ones own
self. If its the respect to the God that one believes into or any religious belief that one
follows then ideally they should apply to each day of ones life & does not have any
sense in believing them to be applicable only on few days.
2. Egg. Is it Non-Veg?
Yes, it is! Some may argue that they are Vegetarian but they eat only Eggs bcoz
according to them egg is not a Non-Veg food item. Its again like fooling ones own
self & playing with thoughts to define ones own comfort level. Here in case of egg,
the life which is growing inside is relevant & not the current look of egg itself as we
see it. Its true that currently we cant see anything other than an owl white box sort of
life structure having yellow colored liquid inside but finally it gives birth to a chicken
growing inside. Thus its chicken but the only thing is those powers take time to get
formed into the body structure. Thus killing an egg is like killing a prospective
chicken & for that matter all its senses & powers as well.
Some agree that egg is Non-Veg food but they have it only when its there in cake or
chocolate etcbcoz there one cant see it directly & thus for them its just a cake or
chocolate. Its like saying that I can see different colors only when my eyes are open
& so I close my eyes & then all colors look just like black to me. I do not think this
requires any further discussion bcoz this is again a foolish explanation & nothing
else. They are cheating their very own soul.
3. Fish. Is it Non-Veg?
Obviously, it is! I was surprised to know that few even consider the Fish as a Veg
food item. This is completely absurd! I do not think there is any need to explain it
after already having discussed about Life & Death of Veg & Non-Veg goods in
previous chapters, to prove that the Fish should fall under the Non-Veg goods
category. Also all other animals which might be living inside the water fall within the
definition of Non-Veg. The only difference is that they live inside water, but even
7
http://chiragsaiya.googlepages.com/chiragsaiya

Veg Vs. Non-Veg.Does it make any Difference?

they have got more senses & powers & thus even they are Non-Veg goods as defined
in earlier chapters.
4. Milk. Is it Veg?
Why not? It is Veg food item! However few argue that if one is Vegetarian then that
person should not drink Milk as well bcoz it is obtained from animals e.g. Cow Milk.
This is not a correct argument bcoz we have to apply the test of Life & Death as
explained in earlier chapters & then find out whether it is Veg or Non-Veg. It is true
that it is taken out from animals but it does not require killing of animals & milk by
itself does not have all those senses / powers that are available to animals.
5. Complete Vegetarian Vs. Vegetarian only for food habits:
We can categories any consumable as Veg or Non-Veg & not just food. That is why
we used the common term goods thorough-out the book as explained in the
beginning. Thus Veg. Vs. Non-Veg applies to all consumables like clothes, perfumes,
oil, other accessories etcused by us in our day-to-day life as defined earlier as well.
Thus some may claim to be strict Vegetarian but then it actually means only with
respect to food habits & they may be Non-Vegetarian while consuming Non-food
items.
Out of many such things consumed by us few things can be just luxuries. We get
influenced to consume them just bcoz of our psychological needs & desires which
actually does not add any real value to our life. Thus such un-necessary consumption
habits can be avoided by us by controlling our own psychology & desires or atleast
we can find some alternate which is made of Veg goods.
6. Ecological balance:
Some may also argue that shifting all consumption to Veg goods may lead to
ecological imbalance. In the very first moment, to some extent it may sound true to
few, but if actually we analyze it then this is not a problem. In-fact it is a solution to
our many problems. We humans have to protect nature to support & promote lives of
Veg goods then this can never lead to ecological imbalance. The way we humans give
importance to industrial & service sector development the same level of importance,
rather higher importance should be assigned to protecting & growing primary sector.
In-fact this will also help us to reduce pollution, waste products, global warming &
diseases. Let the Non-Veg goods live independently at their homes, as it is defined by
nature. Anyway only humans have got higher power of thinking than any other form
of life which might have power to think due to which we can decide on whether to
lead life as a Vegetarian or Non-Vegetarian. Whereas the rest of the lives on the earth
will continue to manage the ecological balance by default as may be defined by the
laws of life by nature.
In-fact we selfish humans are causing tremendous harm to nature & creating huge
ecological imbalance by killing not only numerous animals & birds etcbut also
lives of Veg goods for our excess consumption needs. By protecting nature & turning
back to Veg life we will cause great benefit to world at large & will promote huge
ecological balance. The world will be ruled & managed by laws of nature & God will

bless us with peace & happiness. Also much of our consumption has got no reason.
We should try to control our illogical desires which are influenced by comparison,
competition, ego & jealousy. We should try to consume to the extent we need by
controlling our desires bcoz they never end!!! We should not think of just ourselves.
Lets have a broad & long term vision for life. We have to ensure that earth continues
to be best place to live forever & ever.
7. Health consideration:
Few have wrong impression that they should eat Non-Veg food to ensure good health.
However as a matter of fact, the Veg food is always better to ensure good mental &
physical health. Some also argue that they eat Non-Veg food to obtain protein, which
is not there in many of the Veg food items. However there are so many Veg food
items like milk, sprouts, pulses, broccoli, soya etcthat provides huge protein. Lets
not get into further details with scientific data on the same. But I suggest that if any
one is miss-guided that Non-Veg food is better for maintaining good health then they
should get proper guidance from some knowledgeable & reliable source for the same
& get their misunderstandings clarified & so also rectified!
8. Un-Intentional Vs. Intentional Non-Vegetarian:
Lets begin this with an example; It may happen that while walking, unknowingly we
step-on an ant & it dies, but technically it does not make anyone Non-Vegetarian
bcoz it was by-mistake/un-intentional & was not intended for any purpose. However
on these grounds some may argue that we may cause death to say ants etcunintentionally then any-how we become Non-Vegetarian. This is not acceptable bcoz
it is only intention that matters. However we cant deny the fact that we caused death
to that ant. We cant ignore it & so we should be much careful in whatever we do so
that we do not harm any one, in any manner, to the maximum extant possible, all the
time!! Killing Non-Veg goods purposefully for our consumption makes us NonVegetarian! So some may argue that those who claim to be Vegetarian may also be
Non-Vegetarian in some manner as above & thus they try to fool others to make it
easy for them to justify appropriateness of them being Non-Vegetarian. Lets pray to
God to bless them with correct thoughts & approach in life.
9. Other important areas:

The animals/birds etcare also used in circus, as a pet, for scientific

experiments etcHowever each form of life has equal right to live & also to
enjoy freedom just like we humans!

According to the interpretations done by few, the killing of animals/birds

etcis done to follow some of the religious beliefs, to worship the God they
believe into. This is a very critical area bcoz it is linked to religion & may
cause controversy. Please do not read it as a direct objection to hurt anyones
religious beliefs, but let us just discuss the same to learn with an open mind, as
a human being. The God promotes love & happiness for all. Going by that
understanding we also agree that the God want us to take care of all forms of
life including ourselves by ensuring non-violence, truth & peace. Thus the best
way to worship God is to ensure non-violence!

Veg Vs. Non-Veg.Does it make any Difference?

I am sure that by now we all will say, Veg Vs. Non-Veg, it makes a DIFERENCE
We cant say that death in any case is death & so it does not matter whether it is end
of life of Veg or Non-Veg goods.
No doubt it matters a lot! There is a huge difference between life & so also death of
Veg Vs. Non-Veg goods. It is so obvious & apparent that both birth as well as death
of lives of Non-Veg goods is much wider than Veg goods.
This can be better explained by referring to the concept of Partial Death. Partial
Death is death of one of the senses / powers of life. Say when one looses power to
speak then it is termed as Dumb. It is not necessary that a life can be Dumb or Deaf
etconly at the time of birth. It can be bcoz of some accident during the journey of
life also. Thus the life continues but powers may reduce. That is known as Partial
Death. Thus a complete death also includes all senses & powers attached to that
body.
Hence killing the Veg goods in that sense is comparatively less sinful & painful than
killing Non-Veg goods. We cant go by the argument that if a person kills one or
hundred, in human court that person can be punished with death only once so its
equal. Obviously killing hundred is much wider & sinful than one though punishment
can be given only once to a person in human court for the same bcoz death cant be
repeated hundred times. But in the Court of Nature i.e. as per laws of life by nature
based on principle of Action Reaction i.e. Theory of Karmas; that person, the
soul, is punishable for hundred times separately in various forms of material life as
defined by laws of life by nature. We humans have limited power & so we cant see &
remember the same. But we can see & understand the world around us consisting of
so many various forms & characteristics of lives which is the proof of Natures Laws
of Life on its own!
In some cases, mainly w. r. to Non-food category, the products made out of lives of
Non-Veg goods can be made out of animals / birds etcwhich were already dead out
of natural death & thus not killed purposefully. Then one may consider it to be a
separate category of Non-Veg as Non Living Non-Veg Goods. It is less sinful than
consuming things which require intentional killing of lives of Non-Veg goods.
However the use of this discretion is challenging bcoz it is really difficult to ensure
its authenticity of being Non-Living Non-Veg & anyway at the end its simply
made out of EX-Non-Veg goods. This will help to start avoiding Non-Veg & try to
shift to Veg life. But at any point of time the best way of living can be only that one
which is completely Veg, which is much more challenging. However gradually we
can try to improve.
We know that we have to eat food to live. However whether to be Vegetarian or NonVegetarian, including for non-food stuff, solely depends on us. We have to appreciate
the fact that we all have to pay back for everything we do as per the law of nature of
Zero Sum Game of life. Thus we have to suffer the equal amount of pain & troubles
10
http://chiragsaiya.googlepages.com/chiragsaiya

Veg Vs. Non-Veg.Does it make any Difference?

which we cause to others, in different lives lived by us one after another to pay for
everything we did till that day including things if any, pending for previous lives &
also for things which we will continue to do. This continues till we do not have any
Karmas balance left in our account with nature to be paid for. If we succeed in closing
our Karmas account then we get Salvation!
Thus being Vegetarian can also help us to atleast get closer to SALVATION /
MOKSHA / NIRVANA bcoz it is less sinful!
As discussed in earlier chapter; it is safer to be a vegetarian to have a long-term
healthy life. It will also ensure ecological balance & will help the world to survive! It
also helps to manage & reduce emotion of anger bcoz those who eat Non-Veg food
are more likely to get angry easily due to the negative impact of Non-Veg food on
mental health!
Veg Vs. Non-Veg. Does it make any difference?
I hope that this book will surely cause some genuine effort at your end to give it a fair
chance & think about the same & then decide your self about Veg Vs. Non-Veg, does
it make any difference?
I am sure each one will say YES without having any further doubt that Veg is a
better way of living than Non-Veg.
So what are we waiting for? Lets act on it together & also take others along with us.
Lets do the best we can, to do justification with our current form of existence as a
human being & to benefit the world at large.
This is one of the ways to worship God. It is a respect to nature for giving us such a
wonderful mind to think, decide & act differently. Remember that we all are here for
a short journey so lets make it the best one. This will help us, the soul, in our spiritual
growth path.
It may not sound that easy to implement the moment we finish reading the book but
we can atleast try & begin it. We can start with Veg food & then gradually shift all
our needs to Veg goods. In non-food category we can try to begin with consumption
of products made out of animals / birds that have died out of their natural death. Thus
slowly & gradually we can improve & sincerely try to achieve perfection. Lets give
our own self a fair chance.
