Increase in battery prices is a major challenge since lead-acid batteries are used in UPS
and inverters
Lead constitutes almost 70% of the cost of a battery
Dependent on imports, which accounts for 40-50% of domestic lead demand
Lead prices quadrupled between 2004 and 2007
Although prices have come down to 2006 levels, volatility still exists and will continue to
be a concern area
