Checkers and Thumper
By Katelyn Strauss
I have nothing else to write about so I am going to write
about my 2 bunnies, Thumper and Checkers! Thumper
is 2 years old and Checkers is almost 5! Thumper is grey
with a white belly, just like Thumper in the movie Bambi.
Checkers is White with light brown spots and loves to
eat: cheerios, wires, clovers, buttons on t. v. remotes
and wooden objects. Thumper likes hay. Theyre both
pleasantly plump. And they dont have floppy ears, they
have strait up ones. Sometimes we call Checkers Mr.
Checkers. Those are my bunnies. Now, I will talk about
my friends bunnies. My friend just got a baby bunny
named Jessie. She has white fur with light brown spots
just like Mr. Checkers (except much smaller). She also
likes to randomly jump, (but I guess that makes sense
because thats what bunnies do, JUMP!). She likes to go
under the desk, too, and behind poster boards. Sometimes
she jumps onto chairs. Or when youre sitting down he
jumps on your lap but it hurts because he has sharp claws.
My friend also got that bunnys mom. She is also white
but has dark brown spots instead of light brown spots. I
dont really know what she does. Anyways
I <3 BUNNIES!!!!!

The light streaming from the dusty windows of
Magellan Shop reflected eerily on the stain glass
windows of the Methodist Church on the corner of
Boalsburg Rd. Picturesque French balconies littered
the clean West side of Florento, Loenburg. The
plump jolly Postman was flinching in the stinging ice
and finishing of the parcel service for the evening.
Probably imagining the warm chicken soup that was
waiting for him, he quickened his pace and laughed
heartily. We might compare him to Santa. But jeez
people, this is Loenburg.

On vacation this summer we went to
the Adirondacks in New York. We stayed with
our friends from London, England in a big log
cabin house. It was really fun. We went water
tubing, water skiing, and swimming in the huge
lake by the house. We even had a huge island
in the middle of the lake! Every day at about
3:00, we would go in our friends boat and
motor to town, which was at the exact opposite
side of the lake. We got ice cream there and
played around. Riding in the motor boat was
awesome. I had never been in a motor boat
before, so it was really cool to see the waves
coming up and down and to go so fast.
After we got back from town, me, my
friend Georgina, and her cousin Darcy would
go into the screened outside part of the house
and we would draw for the rest of the day
until dinner and SMORES! We got really
hot when we made the smores because of the
hot weather and the heat of the fire. After, we
had a party at our friends great aunts house
(Naiomys house). We ate even more smores,
and we talked.
The next morning, we woke up. It was
our last day there. We went swimming and
water tubing too. We also canoed to the island.
Overall, the Adirondacks was a really fun trip.
I would suggest (to people who are active and
like outdoor stuff) to go to the Adirondacks.

Good Eats
By Zoe Lockhart
A few weeks ago, I went to a summer camp called
Summer Explorations. One of the many things that I did
there was Good Eats, a cooking class. This class made
the best (American) food I ever had. Below there is a
recipe for shepherds pie personally I think this is the
best shepherds pie in the world.
Ingredients
For the potatoes:
1 1/2 pounds russet potatoes (or sweet potatoes)
1/4 cup half-and-half
2 ounces unsalted butter
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 egg yolk
For the meat filling:
2 tablespoons canola oil (or olive oil)
1 cup chopped onion
2 carrots, peeled and diced small (+2 parsnips also
peeled and diced)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 pounds ground lamb (or half lamb and half
beef to total 1 1/2 lbs)
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons tomato paste
1 cup chicken broth
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons freshly chopped rosemary leaves
1 teaspoon freshly chopped thyme leaves
1/2 cup fresh or frozen corn kernels
Directions
Peel the potatoes and cut into 1/2-inch dice. Place in a
medium saucepan and cover with cold water. Set over

The Production: Are the Actors in Ready for Life
Ready for the Play?
By Rosa Ruiz
This Friday, the casting list for the production
Ready for Life was put out into the world. Not only does
the play have its normal high schoolers and more, but it
also has zombies included.
Many campers are excited. One camper, Alli, said
I think its interesting how a zombie and a human fall in
love because its out of the ordinary.
The script was written in two months, and the
biggest thing is that Mike, the head of the pack, wrote this
script. It really seems that this is a great group and that they
are excited for this play.
It seems many campers such as Alli, who is 13 years
old, and her friend Jamie, also 13, are proud of the part they
got. Alli said, Yeah, Im proud. I feel that I worked hard
and Im just happy with what I got. Jamie said, Yeah Im
excited for the part, yup. Ali added that she cant wait for
the day.
Jordan the CIT feels that she also has worked hard
to get to the spot she got in the production, but she feels its
more of a group effort. If one person doesnt do their part,
then everybody messes up.
50 people in one class can get nerveracking how? Thats a great question. This
class has a lot of weight on them, and how to
get it off? Do great. Know your part. Scripts
have been found on campus 10 times this session.
When asked if she felt there was a lot of weight
on her, Jamie replied, Not really, I mean, at least
not yet. I think the further along we go the more
the pressure will sort of build, she said. As of
now, no Im just sort of having fun with it.
How can people get nervous? Well, its
easy mess up one line and out the door, so it
may seem nerves will build as they get closer to
the end. Alli said, Well, Im not nervous now,
but I think on the day I will be nervous.
We also asked Jordan and she said,
Throughout the process I would only be nervous
if I thought we werent going to get everything
we needed done in time, and then by the night of
the show really I was never nervous.
Think Improv
By Ahzeem Santos
In advanced improve there is a lot of noise but
noise is the least youd expect from a big large fun class like
improv! If you walked in the room you would notice that the
improv class was doing some very energetic stuff. The kids
were saying stuff that was just plain silly but at the same
time it was funny.
The game the class was playing involved people
shouting out random places and whatever one the counselor
thought was cool he chose and that would be the place they
were at for just that scene. The counselor of the class, Owen
Scott was dealing out slips to the kids in the class. The kids
were supposed to read the script as a line at any random
moment. The funny part about it is that when the kids that
were acting chose to pull out the slip when they said the line
it made no sense. But once the scene was over the setting
would change.
These are some things the class talked about:
bananas, airports, but with both of these topics two people
had to make a scene only improvising what was going on
then thats when the slips would come out. When the plane
topic came up the scene was two girls on a plane to Africa
when they realized that they didnt get their shots so they
left the airport and tried getting their shots but the hospital
was closed so then the slips got pulled out the line was the
names bond, James bond and they had to make sense of
that line into the scene. But unfortunately the doctors who
were closed didnt let them in anyway because they thought
that James bond was real and they never made it to Africa.
I had a very good time observing the advanced
improv class! If youre thinking about taking any improv
classes dont hold back on it the classes seem very fun!
