Installation Guide for

PSCADX4 (Standalone)

This section is exclusively for those who are installing PSCAD X4 as a server machine for the first time.
Instructions:
Note-PSCAD supports Windows XP, Vista & Win 7 operating systems (32 bit as well as 64 bit)
Following steps illustrate how to install PSCAD X4 as a Server Machine:
1. Insert License.txt CD into CD-ROM drive and copy license.txt from CD to C drive
2. Insert PSCAD set-up CD into CD-ROM drive
3. If you get message for .NET framework 4.0 and other pre requisite software, click on install or
download and install from the following link
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=17718
4. The installer should start automatically and in a few moments, you should see the following screen:

5. Click Next. A dialog should appear outlining the PSCAD License Agreement. Once the entire
agreement has been read and I agree is checked, click Next to continue.

6. The dialog box below will allow you to make any changes you desire for installation location. When
you have finished selecting a destination for PSCAD, click Next to continue.

7. You will be presented with the below dialog, on which product options are available for install. If you
are not licensed for LiveWire and Matlab Compiler runtime, you can select options as shown in dialog
box below and click Next.

Explanations for product components are given below


PSCAD: Select this option to install PSCAD
GNU FORTRAN Compiler: Select the GNU Fortran compiler. A FORTRAN compiler is required for any
PSCAD project to simulate
License Manager: Select to install the License Manager if you intend for this machine to be the License
Manager server on a network (Standalone Licensing)
LiveWire Lite (Demo): Select this option to install the evaluation version of LiveWire. LiveWire is the
primary data analysis and post-processing software tool recommended for use with PSCAD
LiveWire: Select this option to install the full version of LiveWire. Note that you must be licensed to
run the full version.
8. Once you click Next you will see the following dialog box.

Check the PSCAD will use self-licensing option and click ok.

The Installer will now perform a variety of tests to verify system and network settings,

Click the Next button to continue.

9. The installer will now install PSCAD and then installs GFortran which is quite
straightforward. Once G Fortran is installed, the following message appears, now unplug the USB lock
and press OK.

10. The installer will install the hardware lock(dongle) drivers and asks to plug the dongle. Do
accordingly, you will see below dialog box, click finish to complete the installation.

11. Now go to START->PSCAD->utilities->Enter license key, once you click on Enter license key, you will
get the following window. Go to actions->Enter license keys click on Enter license keys .

12. Once you click on Enter license keys . Following window is presented, search for the license key,
select it and say open.

13. Once you get the following window saying added license to database, you have successfully
installed PSCAD with its license. Cancel the window and run PSCAD.
