(The asterisks on certain directions regard the backpack style)
You will need:

1 front piece: 15 x 15
2 back pieces: 10.5 x 15
1 pocket: 19 x 15
1 handle: 13 x 4

Sewing Instructions:
1. Take your pocket piece and fold it in half, bringing the short sides together so that the
correct side of the fabric is showing
front side
2. Iron along the fold
3. Line the folded pocket up against the front piece of the pillow, as
shown to the left
folded pocket
4. Baste in place, going around the three edges against the front side,
piece
but NOT sewing on the top line (I drew a line on the clipart to the
left where you should sewn along)
Making the handle:

fold here

1. Take your handle piece and fold it in half, bringing the long
sides together, as shown to the right
2. Iron along this fold to secure it into place
3. Unfold this, and take both long sides and fold them halfway so
they meet up in the center at the crease you created with the
iron
4. Iron over this to secure it
5. Fold this in half one more time along the long edges and iron over the entire handle piece
again
6. Pin along the edges, if needed
7. Topstitch a from each side (line up against presser foot)***
Sewing handle onto pillow:

1. Pin the handle piece that you have sown to the front pillow piece, on the
side with the pocket on it, lining the raw short edges of the handle to the
top of the front piece, a 4 each in from each edge (shown in picture to
right)****
2. Pin the handle into place and sew into place a from the edges (lined
up against presser foot)
Making the back of the pillow:
1. Take one of the long edges of the back piece and fold it over about 1/2 onto the wrong
side of the back piece
2. Iron along the fold
3. Fold this piece once over again a in and iron
4. Hem along this line (line up against presser foot, in)
5. Do the same thing with the other back piece
Sewing back pieces onto pillow:
1. Place your front piece with the pocket sewn onto it in front of you , so
that the correct side is facing up and you can see the pocket
2. Place one back piece against one of the sides of the front piece, with
the wrong side facing up (so the correct sides of each piece are placed
against each other)
3. Place the second back piece against the other side of the pillow, so
that the back pieces are overlapping
4. Pin all the way around
5. Sew into place, a in (lined up against the presser foot)
Youre done!
1. Clip the corners of the pillow
2. Turn the pillow outside by using the opening in the back and poke out the corners using a
chopstick
3. Put a 14 x 14 pillow form into the pillow case

***IF MAKING BACKPACK STYLE:

1. Complete all steps above for both handle pieces so that you have two completed handle
pieces
2. Pin two handles pieces to the front piece of the pillow (the side with the pocket on it) on
the left and right sides, about 4 in from each side
3. Sew the rest of the pillow according to the above instructions, everything else is the
same!
