Dear Parishioners,
Things have changed at the Rectory over the Summer
On June 23rd Karen and I welcomed Evelyn into the world and she has already
made her presence felt. We want to thank everyone who have supported us
through prayers, gifts, cards and messages. We look forward to celebrating her
Baptism on 11th September and hope that as many parishioners as possible will
join us for the service and the reception which will follow.
Sunday Club
I want to pay tribute to Vanessa Mitchell, who for many years has given oversight
of all the Clubs activities. This unique and important ministry with the Children
of our parish is greatly appreciated thank you! We congratulate Lisa Doyle on
her appointment as Club convener, in succession to Vanessa.
Open Evening
As we begin another season in the parish and to sample a flavor (without making
any commitments) of our various parish groups and organisations, we are
planning to hold an open evening on Wed 7th Sept from 7.30-8.30pm in the
Carry Centre.
For more information please see the back cover.
With every good wish,
Standing Orders
There are a number of parishioners who are on Standing Orders and wish to
deposit something in the collection plate on a Sunday. A card has been
produced (available at Church entrances) which may be placed on the plate to
indicate that the person subscribes via Standing Order.
Select Vestry
The Vestry will meet at 8pm in the Carry Centre on Monday 5th September.
Well done!
Congratulations to the boys and girls who received
good attendance certificates at the end of year
service in June - a sizeable number were from Holy
Trinity!
A new year!
As a new school term begins we welcome all those
who are starting out at GKNS, in particular we
welcome all the new Junior Infants!
Welcome aboard
We welcome a new member of staff to G.K.N.S.
Miss Jackson.

Parish News
Visit of T.C.D. Chapel Choir: On Sunday 5th June we were delighted to welcome the
chapel choir of Trinity College, Dublin.
Summer in Holy Trinity: Thank you to all those who helped facilitate the opening of
Holy Trinity during the Summer months it is greatly appreciated!
Patronal Festival: At our Patronal Festival we welcomed Fr Conor Harper SJ, who spoke
about Fr John Sullivan (http://frjohnsullivan.ie/) and the Trinity.
General Synod: David Millar writes: The problem of refugees is our problem, said the
Primate in his opening address, for Christ was more at home with the suffering and was in
many way the ultimate outsider, contrasting with the needs of to-days world when
conformity is obligatory regarding the new Charities regulations, for example, which place
heavy responsibility on Select Vestry members so as to ensure the continuance of their
churchs charitable status. Tele-conferencing and shortly video-conferencing involve grasping
rapidly accelerating technology, and the Church has advertised for an HR adviser.
Nonetheless we should be on the lookout for the surprises the Spirit has in store whether
pleasant or otherwise. The average parish, and there are 450 of them, it was suggested
needs 100,000 a year to merely survive but this is a ballpark figure illustrated perhaps in the
question How much does it cost to get married? a child asked his father. No idea, was
the reply, Im still paying for it. Investment policy is queried almost annually, with
passionate views expressed on decarbonisation. The Catholic Bishop of Limerick, one of the
Synods guests, remarked that his diocese had recently held their Synod, the first in 80 years.
While children are the present as well as the future, they are not all in Junior Infants (nor will
they be for long) and deserve to be encouraged by participation and involvement in the adult
services many of them gladly engaging in readers and collectors in one clerics experience.
Perhaps these randomly selected notes give some indication of the range complexities and
concerns which confront General Synod and the many who give their time to address them.
Im trying to understand the Church of Ireland better, said a Methodist guest to one of his
hosts. If you get any results, let me know, was the reply.
