9th Grade Reading Requirements

1.
Choose a book in the Historical Fiction genre for the first six-weeks.
2.
Once the book has been approved, you must bring the book to class every day.
3.
We will have reading time in class every single day. If you dont have your book with you, you get
to read the dictionary and get a zero for that days journal entry.
4.
After I stop your reading time, you must complete a journal. If you are absent, you are
still responsible for reading at least thirty minutes and completing a journal for the day (if
you are gone multiple days, you must do this for each day you are gone).
5.
When you finish your novel you MUST continue reading, bring other books of your
choice. For any extra book you read, you will get extra credit, but you only have to do
journals and a presentation on your first book.

Each journal entry needs to have a combination of the following:
* Summary (at least five sentences) of what you read.
* Important, interesting, fun quote that speaks to the theme of your novel explain it

* Description of the setting, theme, conflict, etc.


* Your reaction to an important event in the novel. How did it make you feel? Why is this important?

* A description of the characters.


Collect these in your notebooks and you will refer to them when its time to present your book. The
presentation format will be given to you one week before the end of the grading period and you will have
one week to complete a report and present to the class.
