Title of CAS Experience/Project: Cleaning my communities Beach side

1.

Briefly describe the CAS experience. What did you hope to accomplish?

For this CAS experience, I was invited by my neighbor to clean the beach outside my
home, she had told me that her dog at almost chocked with a piece of plastic thrown on the floor.
I FELT RESPONSIBLE, since this is my community I thought it would be kind to contribute to
the environments wellbeing. The beach isnt taken care of, and so we decided to get up early in
the morning and clean it up before the tides kicked in. Though we were a few people, we decided
to spend hours cleaning a large portion.

What was the outcome of the experience? Did you accomplish your goals?

We were successful, after at least 4-5 hours we finished cleaning a whole strip of sand
and floating plastic waste. It was sad to see all the garbage carelessly thrown on the sand.
3.

What would you do differently if you did this experience again?

Id get together with a bigger group, we were only 6 people, which sounds a lot but once
you see how big the area was then youd realize we arent enough!

Describe how this experience represents Creativity, activity, and/or Service.

This experience revolves around Activity and Service. Since this was proposed by my
neighbor it was an activity to engage people in the community in contributing to the cleanliness
of the area and becoming more aware of the harm even a plastic bottle has to environment. The
reason this experience also involves service is because we were serving the community by
contributing to the decrease in waste.

How does the CAS experience address these learning outcomes?

LO 4- I was about to skip the whole thing as I woke up at 5 in the morning, but thinking about
the worlds state and my commitment to join I persevered into helping my neighbors clean the
beach for hours.
LO 5- this required a lot of collaborating, some waste around the beach were literally
construction wastes such as large bricks, wood etc. We had to work together, listen to each other
and motivate one another into safely executing the project.
LO 6- Global warming greatest contributor is pollution, Global warming doesnt just affect a few
continues but affects the world in different ways, being part of this community is was a
responsibility of mine in giving a helping hand towards a globally significant issue. Engaging in
these activities not only benefits me but benefits the worlds state to a certain extent, even if that
extent is of a small degree.
